The purpose behind this decision is to not overwrite LILO or any other multi-boot program or whatever program you have installed on your MBR; to forcefully overwrite use the not so documented /MBR switch (or one of FreeFdisk's other similar options) or clear the MBR prior to fdisking. This behavior is different from MS-FDISK, this will cause automated batch file fail. It's good to warn user NOT to overwrite if they're not sure, but this hidden rule cause trouble IF no one tell me what's happening. The solution should be Are you sure to write MBR? but not skipping the MBR, causing misunderstanding. Also when you choose NOT to let FDISK create a single partition and did on your own, the logical drive size will be wrong. I don't know if anyone got this problem also. Its homepage is http://mpop.sourceforge.net/ . Version 1.0.0 was released on 2006-05-25. Binaries based on DJGPP are available from the SourceForge project page: http://sourceforge.net/projects/mpop/ . These binaries use the Watt32 networking library from http://www.bgnett.no/~giva/ . Features include: - Header based mail filtering: filter junk mail before downloading it. - Delivery to mbox files, maildir folders (requires LFN), or a mail delivery agent (MDA). Delivery with SMTP is possible by using an appropriate MDA, for example msmtp. - Fast POP3 implementation using command pipelining. - Authentication methods USER/PASS, APOP, PLAIN, LOGIN and CRAM-MD5. - IPv6 support. - Support for multiple POP3 accounts. Support for TLS/SSL is available if mpop is compiled with the DJGPP port of OpenSSL. [Freedos-user] DOS GUI opinions
I'm looking for opinions on DOS GUI's. I'm familiar with still-developing OpenGEM, but I am especially interested in any freeware/open source GUI's that provide for long names for program items (like MS-DOS DOSSHELL but with a more modern look). Also your judgment of the GUI's file manager, stability and resource consumption. Task switching is nice, especially if stable, but that's a secondary concern. An off-hand related thought: Is anyone using Arachne as a primary GUI? If so, the same kinds of questions apply about its shell support. ___ Freedos-user mailing list Freedos-user@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/freedos-user

A very cool GUI is oZone ;-)) It includes a file manager (navigator) and is a modern GUI with Skin support. Feedback is welcome everytime ;-) An off-hand related thought: Is anyone using Arachne as a primary GUI? If so, the same kinds of questions apply about its shell support. I am using as HTML/Help viewer in DOS. The GUI is very good for a browser, but not so good for a general GUI. [Freedos-user] announce: OpenWatcom 1.5 distributive in .zip archives
Hi! Because there is no official distribution of OpenWatcom in .zip archives since version 1.4, I prepare OW 1.5 distributive in .zip-s at http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/devel/c/openwatcom/1.5/. Here you find archives with same layout, as OW 1.3 distributive, readme.txt (short introduction), license.txt and descript.ion (archives description file, compatible with FAR Manage, NDOS and 4DOS). Later I prepare files.lst listing (in Borland style) for all files in distributive with short description of each file (which is known what is it). This distributive prepared with partial help of Bart Oldeman - some files files was removed, some was moved, some was added, and Bart's advices was allow me to clarify some obscure aspects. ___ Freedos-user mailing list Freedos-user@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/freedos-user
[Freedos-user] I need an example
I'm on the edge of buying hardware for my embedded project. I've been holding back because I'm nervous about actually assembling the software. Writing the software is no problem - I have my C++ inline assembler coded and pretty much ready to go. What I'm uncomfortable with is the actual process of getting it compiled for DOS, linked with WATT-32, moved to the PC-104 board, and started. What I think I need is someone to show me a trivial C++ program that uses WATT-32, AND the compiler setup, compiler settings, build scripts, and all the other associated toolchain *junk* needed to get it ready to go. In part I'm just spoiled - I've gotten used to just typing code into Microsoft VC++, clicking build and having my executable pop out, finished and ready. The idea of spending days stumbling though compiler settings, memory models, config.sys and everything else is just plain daunting. Does anyone have a build environment they'd be interested in sharing, that I can unpack onto a WIn XP system and get running in a few hours? A compiler installation .zip, and a .bat file that assembles and links sample C++ code and the WATT-32 library should be all I need... ___ Freedos-user mailing list Freedos-user@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/freedos-user
Re: [Freedos-user] I need an example
I would recommend trying to contact the WATT-32 library for such examples... and there is example code on the website, although I'm not sure it's c++.
