I've got my MP3 library (3500+ files) on two different Windows machines (it's a long story). Over time, I know that files have been added and/or changed on both machines. But, for the most part, the libraries (folder contents) are the same. I'm looking to merge them together into one place.

If the hard drive has gone bad and the optical drive is the only device on the bus then the cable position and/or master/slave/cs jumpers on the optical drive may need to be reset in order for the drive to be recognized. The same would apply to the hard drive if it is the DVD drive that has gone

Kris, to answer your questions, this Mac that had all the Mail trouble after the Panther upgrade is a dual 2.0 G5 with 8 GB of RAM. The instructions that come with the upgrade don't specifically recommend backing things up beforehand, although I agree that's always a good thing to do. Likewise
