Reducing the bus speed is only required for some of the higher speed (i.e., 800mhz) third-party upgrades. It's actually the same for G3 and G4 upgrades at those speeds. Look at something like a 1Ghz G3 upgrade for for information. Now... For a simple upgrade like swapping in a Yikes! G4 into a

If the drive were bad it would not be usable with USB and FW. I would suspect either a bad cable or a bad/loose cable connection to the either the drive or the eSATA port. Are you using an internal SATA cable or eSATA? Did you reboot the machine after attaching the drive? -irrational john
