Summary: Jabber/GTalk File Transfer Impossible

Initial Comment:
I'm using Gaim 2.0.0beta3.1, and a GTalk account works fine using the Jabber
protocol, but file transfers are not possible.

Send requests are not recieved, and the Windows client of Google's AIM can't
send files to me either, claiming my client is not file transfer capable. Just
as I was chatting through GMail embed IM.

File transfer between the official Google Talk client and another Jabber
client do not work as the official client uses it's own file transfer
method.
As far as I remember, Google said they would open this protocol or write a
JEP about it or something... but they have not done this yet. Correct me if
i'm wrong.

But now, if we have two Google Jabber accounts using real Jabber clients
(GAIM/Adium) and the file transfer does not work... then I can only make
suppositions:
Maybe the clients are firewalled and because of this they try to send the
file via the Jabber server, but the google talk server does not support
this feature.

In fact I had the same problem using two iChat clients with Google Talk
accounts.

I'm using 2.0.0beta6 and it's the same.

Although my other part is using Adium to connect to GTalk (which I believe
is using libgaim?)

Summary: Email notification not resetting

Initial Comment:
Gaim 2.0.0 b6 on Windows XP Pro SP2.

Notification of a new email received works correctly. However, once I retrieve
the email, if I quit Gaim and restart it the notification reappears even though
no new messages have arrived. This state continues on for some time (1 day?)
until Gaim seems to get used to the idea.

It doesn't seem to matter whether I open the email from the Gaim window or
independently. Also, I can close the notification and it will not reappear for
as long as I have that session of Gaim running; it only reappears when I
restart Gaim. It also doesn't seem to matter whether I kill Gaim's process
externally or choose quit from the menus.

I have only observed this on Yahoo as I don't have any email accounts elsewhere.

Summary: Incorrect decoding of ICQ status messages

Initial Comment:
Gaim does not correctly decode ICQ status messages. The
attached screen shot shows that. The buddy in the
screen shot uses a German original ICQ-messenger on
Windows.

I tested the problem with Gaim 2.0.0cvs on Linux, but I
think, it's an old problem, which already occured in
Gaim 1.5.0.

I think, the message is UTF-8 and Gaim thinks, it is
ISO-8859-1.

My encoding in Tools - Accounts
- your account - Show More Options - Encoding is
ISO-8859-1, which is probably the default.

But I don't know the encoding of my buddy which uses the
original ICQ client on Windows without this option.

I think, Gaim should try to automatically detect the other
side's encoding.

Do you have the proper encoding set in Tools - Accounts -

Summary: Jabber fails with self-signed SSL certificate

Initial Comment:
Gaim Version: 2.0.0 Beta 5
OS:MS Windows XP SP2

When attempting to connect to a Jive server
(http://www.jivesoftware.org/wildfire/) using Gaim 2.0 Beta 5 using SSL and the
server is using a self-signed certificate the client fails to connect with the
following error message:

  SSL handshake failed.

Note 1: this is not the self-signed certificate that comes with the Jive
server, this is a certificate that we have generated in-house with a CA we use
internally.

Note 2: SSL works when using the default SSL certs that ship with the Jive
server, ie, not self-signed.

Note 3: when I use Kopete to connect to this same server with the same
credentials, the Kopete client prompts me to accept a self-signed certificate
before connecting (from a linux host).

My problem is that I can only connect to msn or icy when I first start an other
messenger (for example kopete). If I don't start kopete first I get the message
connection not possible.

If starting kopete before all works fine!

Gaim crashes inexplicably in Slackware 11.0 with kernel 2.6.20 and all patches
in slackware 11 applied. It seemed at first like it was crashing due to
nicknaming people in my friends list, so I deleted blist.xml (I think that's
the file: I grepped to make sure before I did), but now it won't stay running.
I run XFCE desktop. I have several strace files if anyone is interested, as
well as the core file.

Now gaim appears to stay running. Before, I was getting a MSN can't
authenticate error periodically, but this error no longer appears, and gaim
stays running. I still have the core file and strace files if anyone is
interested.

I am probably suffering from the same bug:
I use gaim mostly with MSN, and it seems that animated smileys are
animated even when they have been scrolled out of view. In effect, this
causes gaim to use increasingly large amounts of CPU when conversations
become longer (and more smileys have been used).
Closing the conversation window brings CPU power back to normal.

This is on Linux with at least Gaim 2.0.0 beta 3 to 6.

Initial Comment:
For some reason, my primary AOL screen name (bombtalent) works very well with
Gaim. My secondary screen name is aaronbignerd and it will not authenticate.
Gaim keeps telling me it's the wrong password, even though I know it is correct.

I'm pretty sure this is a known bug on Adium but not sure if you guys are aware
of it.

at one time 10 people talking to me and my memory usage for just gaim alone

anyone else has had this issue if they have I apologize for resubmitting this.
I will take screen shots through the night tonight and I wish I had already of

Summary: messages received from a jabber gateway are lost.

Initial Comment:
I use an MSN gateway over Jabber instead of using Gaim's native MSN support. I
can send and receive messages with my jabber contancts, and I can send messages
to my MSN contacts, but I can't receive messages from those MSN contacts.

When I figured this out I tested it with the help of a friend who had both MSN
and Jabber accounts. Finally, I reverted to using another client (PSI) and the
problem went away. This wasn't a problem with Gaim 1.5, only Gaim 2.0beta5.

Gaim has no real support for handling gateways. That said, it shouldn't
be dropping messages. Capture the gaim debug output, so I can take a look
at the XML you're receiving, and see if I can determine what is wrong.

No, i talk about any long normal line line.

I guess it's gtk 2.4.10. The same version used to compile

By long lines do you mean long lines with no spaces in them,
i.e.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
or something? Line wrapping did get slightly tweaked in
1.0.1, and it works fine for me. What version of GTK is
gaim compiled against in slackware-current?

Summary: keyboard focus with window raise

Initial Comment:

When you set Raise IM Window On Events in
the preferences and/or Raise Chat Window On Events,
a better behavior would be: raise the window, but
do not assign keyboard focus. Nicer yet, if the
keyboard focus was on another window in this
program, wait for SEND or CR in the prior window
before actively assigning keyboard focus to the raised
window.

As it is, if one has two conversations going, when
one is typing to one and the other replies, your
typing is interrupted into the wrong window.

Whatever the gaim 1.0.0 windows version comes with, which
looks to be GTK 2.0.

It would be nice if the version showed up in the
help about window.

Summary: crash on logon attempt

Initial Comment:
Gaim 1.0.1-3 under Fedora Core 3, unmodified config.

I go to the accounts menu, select the Jabber protocol,
and try to add an account with screen name foo bar.
The client instantly crashes. I presume this is
because it can't handle a space character in the screen
name.

Backtrace follows. I have also tested in fc4 (newer version
of gaim, 1.3.0-1.fc4) and it doesn't crash like this, though
the message it gives isn't terribly informative.

Summary: Buddy list and conversation windows don't refresh

Initial Comment:
Sometimes the buddy list or conversation window won't
refresh anymore visually but still works. For example, if
the buddy list was frozen I couldn't see where I scroll or
highlight anything but I could still click on people,
though it might not be the correct one since it wouldn't
refresh if i scrolled down the list. If it happens to a
conversation window I have to close it, then reopen
another, then check the log to see what i missed in the
conversation. The only way to fix it for the buddy list is
restart gaim. I'm running Windows XP.

I'm having a similar problem... Message and Buddy List
windows will intermittently fail to refresh. At the same
time, the CPU usage in the WinXP Task Manager goes to 100%,
all being used by Gaim. Choosing Quit from the system tray
icon appears to cause a normal shutdown, but then crashes Gaim.

Crash dump follows:

Summary: Crash when trying to change buddy icon

Initial Comment:
When I try to change my buddy icon, Gaim just crashes after I select the file.
This happens both with only the Jabber prpl or only the ICQ prpl enabled. I
tried to add gif, png and jpeg images as the buddy icon. I attached a drmingw
trace I got with a fresh svn debug build.

(One thing I tried to change in the code was checking if error is NULL before
trying to print out debug info, and this stopped the crash from happening and
everything went smoothly, the buddy icon did change.)

Thanks for looking into this!
Mark

Summary: File lock not released after transfer / send (Win)

Initial Comment:
WinGaim:
When you send a file, Gaim will lock the file so that you can not delete the
file while its being sent.
After the file is sent, though, Gaim does not unlock the file. This, for
example, prevents you from deleting it under you reboot.

Summary: Changing from a status to Available crashes Gaim

Initial Comment:
Once I started using beta 6 of Gaim 2.0, Gaim crashes every time I try to
change the status from anything to Available. I never had this problem with the
betas prior to upgrading to beta 6. I can change to Away or any of my custom
settings with no problem. But once I try to set it to Available, it crashes.

Duplicate of 1639916. If you think it isn't,
please get a backtrace as described on
http://gaim.sourceforge.net/gdb.php, or if using windows install
the gaim-debug package and get a gaim.RPT file as described here
http://gaim.sourceforge.net/win32/#debug

If it's really not the same crash, we'd like the backtrace anyway..

Well, I fixed this because I only had AIM running. I powered up Gaim's
Yahoo Instant Messenger and was able to change to the Available status for
both of them at once.

When I first start a chat (in AIM, if that matters,) I have to resize the chat
window to my liking. In previous versions, I did this once and the setting was
saved, but in 2.0.0 b6, I need to do it every time.

Willing to bet this is a duplicate of 1602992. Can't be sure without a

the-kenny: If your tabs are on top, then it is a different issue. Follow
the instructions at http://gaim.sf.net/win32#debug and report a new bug.

I have moved the tabs to the top and Gaim has been running for ~6 hours
without a crash. So, it definitely looks like it has to do with tab
placement.

Try tabs on the top to see if that makes this issue stop happening.

Tabs are on the left, rather than the top. Transparency plugin is not

Do you have your conversation tab placement set to anything other than on
top?
Are you using transparency?

Summary: Crashes Several Times/Day

Initial Comment:
I'm running 2.0.0 beta 6. Windows XP SP2. Gaim crashes several times a day.
First the tabs stop redrawing correctly, then other parts of the window.
Eventually it starts having terrible screen redrawing problems with portions
being all black or all white. During this time it is also consuming relatively
large quantities of RAM. There is no particular action that causes it to
crash in the end.

Attached is the gaim.rpt file for basically my yesterday and the later part of
the previous afternoon. After I had installed the debug version.

I'll gather any other info you want.

I am having the same problem with a WinXP pro xp2 install.
This has been happening since gaim2b5. I have a gaim.rpt if needed as
well (i couldnt find out how to upload it at this time)

i notice it after i stop the screen saver, and sometimes it happens w/o
screen saver. possibly idle time?
same thing hnappens, the windows are not redrawn correctly, and usually
completes the crash if i right click on the windows taskbar icon.

I too can do testing if need be between work.

Summary: Crash on Startup - oscar and yahoo plugins

Initial Comment:
I've experienced this during beta 4 and beta 5. When I
start Gaim, it crashes while trying to load the
liboscar.dll plugin. If I rename the plugin so that it
doesn't load, the client crashes while loading
libyahoo.dll. Both crashes are reflected in the
attached RPT.
I am aware that the crashes for each plugin could be
completely unrelated. If it is preferred, I can create
a second post for the yahoo plugin at which point this
should be considered the oscar plugin report. Please
inform me if this is necessary.
Thanks.

gaim 2.0.0beta5, debian build.
Linux charset is utf-8.
ICQ charset is cp1251 (windows russian charset).
Many things with russian text are looked fine: user info, offline messages,
etc. Except away messages. They are looked like double encoded from cp1251 to
utf-8. To view them I use iconv -f utf-8 -t cp1251 (in utf-8 terminal).

Summary: Away messages can't be read - icq

Initial Comment:
Some people asked me, if I never write something in my
away-message. I was a little surprised, 'cause I always
do that.

After some experiments with a friend of mine which is
using ICQ 5.1, that she never could read my
away-message. Of course we tried all options
(my status local - status at my friends ICQ 5.1)
- away (on the top)- away, no Away-Message
- away (on the botton)- busy(?!) and no message
- extended away - DND, no Message
- online (with and without message) - online

Another mistery:
I wrote at my online status test an confirmed it with
enter. After that I chose a saved extended-away, but
the test was there at all. Now I am trying to remove
the Test from the little textfield, and everytime I
press BACKSPACE my GAIM crashes... A restart of GAIM
wasn't the solution

Thats annoying..

Now I the away-options (like 'dnd' and 'away') are correct

the messages ...
If I add myself in my own contact-list I can read them!

Whatever, I can't reproduce the crash, but I will try it

Summary: icq gaim icons don't show to icq users as avatars

Initial Comment:
Hey there =)

I know I'm kind of annoying you, but there are still problems with icq away
messages in gaim. I know you have a lot to do, therefore I spend a litte time
on this issue.

First of all I build the last gaim-2.0.0-beta5 from source on a slack 11
system.
Then I just started gaim without a .gaim settingsfolder and connected to my icq
account. Okay, no problems so far. I give gaim 5 minutes to catch up all away
msgs.

Okay, it's not that bad as I thought, the only problem is, that it takes a lot
of time to receive alle messages. But... however... very good.

But my own away message only seems to appear at other gaim users, but not at
normal icq (and Trillian?!) users (interesting is: if I add myself to my
gaimbuddylist an change status to away, the awaymessage field in gaim stays
empty, but I do appear as away). As a matter of fact there seems to be some
incompability with icq client away messages (testet with icq lite version).

At last I just have a few other things to recommend:
- the icq icons have a size of 52x64px. Furthermore the gaim icons do not show
up at normal icq users as avatars (other icons show up correctly here).
- unicode support for the icq away messages, there are still a few special
chars, which are not encoded correctly (e.g. äöü in german)

Hope you think about it an this helps you improving gaim and killing a few more
bugs,
Regards, Maik

Moving a Buddy to another group trough drag-and-drop
triggers a Buddy Add sequence, including re-sending
authorization requests.
Sometimes the sequence fails, displaying an error
message, announcing that Buddy could not be added for
unknown reason, possibly due to max buddies (false).

I currently use AIM, MSN, and Google Talk(Jabber) and I also
get this error. My buddy list is also at the max number of
people for AIM servers. However, one slight difference is
that the move actually is successful, though I still get the

I currently use three protocols: ICQ, MSN and AIM. The
issue is most apparent with ICQ (due to the protocol's
security policy - authorization required on most Buddy
actions), but was also noticed on MSN (via self-add). I
don't currently know if the issue happens with AIM
(security policy is less severe than ICQ's? I don't use it
as much)

Duplicate of: 1551566 (away messages), 1621362 (special chars in away
messages). Checking for icons..can't find a duplicate for the icon one, so
changing the title of this to show that one.

Summary: Clipboard Dies when window closes

Initial Comment:
In your latest release of Gaim 2.0 b6 when ever I close out the window the
items I have copied into the clipboard die when the windows closes. I thought
I lost my mind first of all but after several tests it doees die. it seems
like it is clearing the clipboard cache as soon as you close the window.
Givens
CB=Clipboard Cache

Step 1
Open a window to send a message
Step 2
Highlight Word(s) Ctrl-C or right click to copy into CB cache
Step 3
Opended CB viewer to make sure contents are in CB cache confirmed they are
there.
Step 4
Close Gaim Window
Step 5
Went back to CB cache contents gone
Repeated Steps above with out closing window and all contents pasted to next
window.

I Hope this is the step process you were wanting to figure out what was going
on. I have not tested this with the linux variant just the Windows program.

thanks so much

love your product

[Gaim-bugs] [ gaim-Bugs-1655813 ] selection clipboard erased on status change

Summary: selection clipboard erased on status change

Initial Comment:
If I write some interesting status message, e.g. a quote, and I want to keep
that message while changing the status , I select the defined message, pick
another status and then I middle click the status message text box.

But when I do that, it remains empty. The selection clipboard is cleared when
the text which was selected disappears. The only way to prevent this is to use
the ^C and ^V keyboard shortcuts, which clipboard is not deleted when the
textbox is cleared.

This is only happening when the selection clipboard contents are the textbox
contents, selections from other sources are working fine.
