Why not adding remote avatars to the SVN, too?

Tschö,

Because if I don't need to add remote avatars to SVN, I have to set
'svn:ignore' to '*' (or I see a lots of '?') and add local avatars
explicitly. But svn don't show me new local avatars because 'svn:ignore'
and I have to always remember to svn add new local avatars just after
assign it.

No, I've thought about SVN. I use SVN for my home folder and want to
save local avatars to SVN too. And it's much easy if local avatars will
use different folder from remote avatars.

You are right, that's easy too. I've thought about the price for that
traffic but may be it have no sense.

Probably I miss something obvious here ;-) but what's the problem

Actually it should be a no-op, shouldn't it?

moreover I don't think server admin will like Gajim if we put many
avatars on the private storage! I don't think it's designed to store big
data like that.

but putting them in a separate folder sounds doable :)

This is a typical use for XEP-0049 (Private XML Storage). If you intend
to use that I could help writing a XEP, so it will be cross-client
eventually.

On the other hand XEP-0049 might be somewhat not efficient because
records are identified by their element names and namespaces. We would
need the JID as the primary key if we don't want to get/set all avatars
at once.

[Gajim-devel] local avatars

2007-05-01 Thread Denis Shaposhnikov
Hi!

I've found a nice feature in Gajim from the SVN. It's local avatars. And
I've thought may be it better to save local avatars to another directory
not together with buddies avatars. In this case it'll be easy to
synchronize local avatars between several hosts (in my situation between
home and office computers). What do you think about it, guys?

But I think that even better to save local avatars on the server, like
Comment right now saved. Don't known if it possible.

Thanks!
