Re: [Audyssey] Hello. Just wondering is there a hot key to download dragonslayer games, when I try and download it, it won't do anything. I need help with that.

2006-12-01 Thread shaun everiss
I do not understand.
www.draggonslayergames.net is the site I think someone correct me I'm a bit
rusty.
Anyway there is no install you need something like winzip to actually get it to
work right but after extraction to a folder it all should all run ok.
You need to install the full versions first, then the patch version.

It should work off the bat.
no hotkey though.

Re: [Audyssey] Gaming on Windows Vista?

2006-12-01 Thread shaun everiss
true tom.
However I fail to see why ms releases xp and vista in the same year.
I'd rather get xpsp3 and then later sp4 rather than vista.
Would be different if ms just said xp was going to die real soon, but its life
has been extended.
And by the time xpsp4 dies if xpsp4 actually comes out, there is a chance that
the next version of windows will be out.
Still who knows, its taken around 5 or so years for vista to come out, its
probably going to take longer for the next gen systems after that.
Hopefully when I eventually get vista, prices have dropped and some nice
persion has made hacks for some of the more anoying features.
Oh and for those that want vista, get xp media centre, Someone told me that
vista is basically that.
Its a pitty the blind can't design its own windows interface like we used to do
with the old keynote keysoft.
It would still use windows, its just we wouldn't use th interfaces windows had.
At 03:28 PM 12/1/2006, Thomas Ward wrote:
Hi,
short answer is because it is Microsoft. They need a good reason to have
everyone pay for an upgrade and get features they probably don't need or
want.
If you stick with XP and get SP3 which is f ree Microsoft isn't getting
any money out of that. Therefore Vista is what you will end up buying
and paying through the nose for.

shaun everiss wrote:
This ofcause puts the question why ms is releasing vista at all when there
are 2 more or at least 1 definate service pack of xp coming.
This should give everyone time to adapt to vista, who knows maybe we will be
 passed vista by then.

[Audyssey] Announce: Surreal Horizons Releases Initial Torrent Soundbite

2006-12-01 Thread Nolan Darilek
Hello.

I'm pleased to both announce Surreal Horizons, a new entrant into the
accessible gaming arena, as well as the initial soundbite of
Torrent, Surreal Horizons' first title.

=== What is it?

Hop aboard your fighter, warm up your lasers and prepare to
obliterate wave upon wave of oncoming asteroids and alien ships in
this exciting, fast-paced audio arcade-style shooter. For how long
will _you_ survive the torrent?

=== Features

This feature list is subject to change and not complete. It does,
however, represent current plans for the first public release.

  * Gameplay is driven by a real 3-D engine integrating physics and
positional audio.
  * Semi-realistic collision physics. Colliding asteroids bounce off
each other upon contact.
  * Positional audio for two or more speakers with velocity-based
sound dopplering.
  * Unlimited waves of oncoming targets.
  * Multiple target types. Asteroids bounce on collision and may
fragment on destruction. Alien ships navigate intelligently and fire
back. Power-ups provide bonuses when collided with but are otherwise
fragile and easily destroyed.
  * Special levels. Blast entire waves of alien fighters, guide light
freighters through the sector safely for extra power-ups and more.
  * Compete with others via the online scoreboard.
  * Joystick/gamepad support, both for navigating the game and its
user interface.
  * Rich, self-voicing user interface utilizing both synthesized and
sampled speech to provide the richest in-game interface experience of
any other accessible game.
* Embedded screen reader and accessible array of in-game user
interface elements with keybindings familiar to users of OS X, Linux
and/or Windows.
  * Cross-platform. Supports Apple OS X, Linux and Windows 2000 or
greater.

=== Availability

Initial development is nearly complete, and beta testers will be
sought soon. Please do not inquire about testing at this time, and
watch the community (http://surrealhorizons.com/community) for
further developments.

An initial soundbite of gameplay has been released. See http://
surrealhorizons.com/2006/11/30/first-torrent-soundbite-released for
the details.

Best of all, this soundbite was recorded and produced using the OS X
version of Torrent. The Linux port is mostly complete, and testing
will begin under Windows shortly.

Enjoy, and keep an eye on the Surreal Horizons community for future
updates!

Nicol. There would be no point in me explaining what is already clearly
stated in the manual and on the web site.

In short, there was a lab experiment dealing with genetics which went
wrong. To shut down the experiment the designers used a color coded
wafer system. This way, no one person could panic and shut them down.

Re: [Audyssey] mutant humans

2006-12-01 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Nicol,
As the manual clearly states John Britain and his staff were conducting
genetic experimentation when the experiment went wrong somehow. From the
story the complex is not in an office building, but in a mountain base
hidden inside the mountain.
Now, since we know the experiment was genetics clearly there first tests
would be done on rats, dogs, and other animals before moving on to human
subjects. That explains how we got mutant dogs and giant rats, andthe
blobs have been created through experimentation. The cyborgs must have
been an experiment of joining machine and man, and well the resulting
creatures were deadly creatures.
The story doesn't say what went wrong and how, but I have my own theory
about that. Simply, during the experimentation they used the lower staff
which mutated and killed most of those who had control of the expriment
or they were accedently caught up in it. John Britain who caried the
experiment control box was definately converted in to something, the
boss, and he was no longer human after his transformation.
For what ever reason all the creatures being experimentated upon escaped
there labs and killed those who were not effected or the entire complex
was effected, and either way all of them were running loose like insane
and deadly creatures feeding upon each other, and on someone who enters
the base.

Re: [Audyssey] Gaming on Windows Vista?

2006-12-01 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Sky,
If you mean my screen reader project I am developing it for Windows
2000, XP, and Vista.
Right now it isn't much better than Windows narater , but it is coming
along slowly.
Btw. when it is ready for 1.0 release I plan to offer it as a free
download, and unlike Thunder I plan to script the applications and
support apps like Soundforge, Internet Explorer, Outlook, Office, etc
out of the box.
So stay tuned for updates and news. I don't look for any real news to
spring or so when it reaches perhaps Alpha testing.

Re: [Audyssey] Gaming on Windows Vista?

2006-12-01 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Shaun,
How about we move the screen reader discussion over to the USA Games
discussion list since it is or will be one of my products. However,
since I have this email open here is a little blurb about it.
The screen reader right now isn't to the point I would replace Jaws or
Window Eyes with it, but it will have some great potential down the road
especially by the time it hits full release status. Esentually, at this
point it supports all SAPI compliant synths such as Neospeech, MS SAPI,
and Cepstral voices. I am hoping to support Eloquence and Dectalk, but
that will come in it's own time. Hardware sinths and braille support
isn't on the 1.0 roadmap.
However, unlike allot of screen readers including Window Eyes, Narrator,
and Thunder my screen reader has the power of a scripting language. I
have chosen a common script language for the application so to learn how
to script the screen reader and submit custom scripts all one needs to
do is pick up a book from a computer store learn the script language,
and begin scripting your favorite apps.
The downsides is I don't yet have the now-how to make it do all the
things Jaws and Window Eyes can do. For example, a talking install. I
can not do that, and will likely ship 1.0 with InnoSetup which is simple
for installation, but leaves a bit to be desired. Then, again my sr is
going to be free and it is more of a hobby project rather than something
I plan to market and sell.

Re: [Audyssey] two Asteroids style games

2006-12-01 Thread Dark
The description of Torrent actually reminded me quite a lot of Galaxians,
perhaps even more than asteroids, sinse it seemed to feature dodging of
enemies rather than just shooting them down, a rap around scrolling effect,
and accelleration and deceleration.

the right upp on surrealist horizons also appeared to hint that alien ships
firing at you would be more common than in the original asteroids game as
well.

I don't know if thom's specific asteroids remake will be closer to the
original, with the player in the exact center of the playing field, having
to protect him/herself in 360 degrees, and the strange teleporting movement
system that always seems to get me killed when I try a varient of the
original Asteroids.

Even though the audio remakes of classic atari 80's space shooters there
have been seem to all be remakes of space invaders, there do seem to have
been many more games of a similar style produced back then all with
different features. for example there was rescuing hostages and left/right
scrolling in defender, bouncing bullits back in deflecter, and having to
jump pits in Moon patrol.

Imho seeing audio remakes move away from standard space invaders and explore
some of these similar in style, yet different in execution games is a
welcome change, and Imho multiple game developers' approaches to this style
would be a good thing.

Beware the grue!

Dark.

This is a most interesting development. I was quite impressed with the
 sound
demonstration of Torent. I'm also interested in Tom's reaction to the
 demo.
He also is working on an Asteroids game as a tutorial and free game for
people. I very much hope both of these games galvanises the gaming
 community
and developers within it. The announcement from Surreal Horrizons gave
 some
idea of what we're in for from that quarter. Tom has hinted that he's
planning to add some twists to his Asteroids game as well. My question
therefore is for Tom. Do you use a different approach in terms of basic
navigation and aiming? Also, what kind of additions are you planning for
your free Asteroids? Alien Outback and Troopanum shows clearly that there
 is
more than one way to approach a basic classic arcade game. I assume both
games are going to take a while to complete.

Re: [Audyssey] USA Games Holiday News.

Hi,
STDW stands for Star Trek Dominion War. It is another title on the
future projects list. It will be based on the Dominion War, will be in
real time, and will be an interesting title when it gets off the drawing
bord.
As for SWJS the game is still in the works, but very slowly. I have to
get Monty and Raceway completed before tackling the Star Wars and new
Star Trek games.
Dark wrote:

Please excuse my ignorance, but what's Stdw? another star trek game in
developement? a title change to Starwars Jedi Strike? (I hope that one is
 stil in developement).

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but I do like to keep up with audio
games in developement, even at risk of appearing a bit dim.
