[Audyssey] VipMud?

2007-08-13 Thread Missy Hoppe
Good evening, all! I just subscribed to this list, and was curious what the
latest news regarding the VipMud software might be. I'm very much into
mudding, and while gmud works very well for me, I was very interested when
I read about vipmud a few months ago. I haven't heard anything since,
though, so thought I'd subscribe to this list to find out if anyone knows
anything.
Thanks in advance for any answers, and I hope that everyone is having a
great day!
Missy

my ball just went absolutely gang bang crazy, started smashing everything up

amount of extra balls that allowed me to play more and earn even more points

Ahh Mideivia. I've played that one a while too. I liked the dragons, and
the eggs, and all kinds of stuff there. But again, there wasn't much to do
besides kill for xp and the combat systems were stock and boring.

If anyone wants to read my review of A A I wrote, I tried to post it here

people are saying that they ripped off diku, and all this crap when it seems

pirating in the seas, etc.

Now he's making this whole system of justice for clan towns, it sounds
pretty cool. I never saw that dragon system in a Diku codebase either.

Well, aside from Sryth, Web Based games suck more than muds, the only web
based games that are really cool are Sryth, Kingdom of Loathing (if they'd
take the auction bots away), and well, those are the only two that have good
storylines and good descriptions. If you want community, popomundo is the
game for you.

I really haven't found anything in the sim cadigory, I'd love that,
especially a mud. I wish there was never such a thing as a "codebase".
Everyone would have custom stuff and it'd probably rule.

But yeah, if you try muds and think they suck, wait till you try the loads
of mafia games out there that barely have any story whatsoever. Warrying
factions I dislike now because they reset now and stuff but even their
battles could be more detailed.

I'm really looking for a PBEM game where a computer takes your orders or
whatever, combines them with the other players orders and makes a story out
of it, that'd be really cool.

Okay, I'm just totally on my sope box so I'm gonna stand up off of it now -
I challenge you all to give me a web based game, or mud, for that matter
that has detailed descriptions (Including battles).

I know Sryth and Kingdom of Loathing do, also godwars2, etc any of the muds
that had been mentioned here in this thread.

No flame wars, please.

yes, but www.aarontic.randylaptop.com has scripts that work great with jaws,
including typing interupt and a way to make jaws interupt itself (for
example, an emergency comes up, and your ship runs out of charge, jaws will
inturupt itself and tell you that the ship has, say, 4 minutes of charge
remaining). Personally, I find this helpful.

Re: [Audyssey] Sound RTS: Congrats to LHXT

2007-08-13 Thread SoundMUD
You probably should scout more. As soon as you think it's possible,
send one peasant to every possible starting square, so you will know
where the other player is. Then let your peasant (or a footman in
defensive mode) in a square near the enemy. If the other player is too
passive, your sentry will stay there for a long time while you are
expanding everywhere, and you can even make all your soldiers stay
there too, keeping the other player in his own base.

[Audyssey] So I got nestalgic.

2007-08-13 Thread James Homuth
I dug up the codebase for a Godwars MUD I used to toy around with a
couple years ago. It's improved a fair bit since then, naturally.
It's Mindcloud version 2.5, for anyone who's curious. It's just the
stock code right now, but I figure... this'll do two things. Give the
blind guys a place to senselessly kill each other, and give me a
chance to fine-tune my administrative skills. So... if things break,
you know why. LOL

For anyone who's interested, nova.the-jdh.com 4000 is currently up
and running. But be warned, if I decide to play with things, it
*mignt* not work the way you're used to. :-)

Hi Nicol,
Basically, a blog is a type of electronic journal on the internet. You
can write a journal entry about this really cool game, and everyone else
can visit your blogs and read what you wrote. It is a different type of
way to share information. It can be about anything game related
including game reviews, stories of your own latest game play, a
developers plans for a new game, etc... look at this sample blog I'll
write up below.

Thomas Ward

8/12/2007

Today, I played Shades of Doom 1.2. By far it is one of my favorite
games do to the the realism of game play, first person perspective, cool
monsters, and great sound effects.

Thomas Ward

8/11/2007

Today, I played one of the best games of Final Conflict. I was down to
one ship and was forced to fight three Klingons, a Romulan warbird, and
a Cardassian alone. The defiant being the Defiant I managed to destroy
all but one of the enemy ships before losing the Defiant to enemy fire.

In the sample blog entries above I chose to give the end readership a
view of my gaming experiences. Of course, were these real blogs I'd have
allot more to say, giving specific battles, lots more detailed
information, but unlike email you write it up, but people don't respond
as with a forum or email.

Re: [Audyssey] About the mag

2007-08-13 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Shaun,
Just for your info all attachments are stripped from emails including
word documents for security reasons. There are to many viruses and other
types of mal ware that can spread over a list such as this very rapidly
if we didn't clean attachments.
Besides witch Word documents and html documents would increase the mags
size, and not decrease it. In addition to that, many MS Word users fail
to realise even Word *.doc files can contain viruses.
Basically, the method Ron is sending out the mag is fine with Raul and
I. We know that message is apped to be large, and always approve them
when we see them in the moderators inbox.

Re: [Audyssey] Looking for Other MUDs

2007-08-13 Thread Shadow Dragon
Not really. It gets old after a while, levelling is horrible, its hard to
find areas and the environmental effects can destroy you as a newbie. Not to
mension equipment deterieration makes the game hard to play if you come back
after like a month off or so, because then you spend half your life trying
to recollect all of this awesome equipment. Totally not worth it in my
opinion, not to mension it uses a stock combat system, which is lame.

Re: [Audyssey] Game Dev: Artificial intelligence?

2007-08-13 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Robert,
For the absolute beginner I would first recommend
AI for Game Developers
By David M. Bourg and Glenn Seeman
which has several well written chapters on the different styles of AI
used in games. None of them are an advanced look at the techniques, but
the C/C++ samples will give you a basic understanding of the basic
techniques that drives neural networks, fuzzy logic, etc...
Another book I would recommend for the absolute newby to AI is
AI Techniques for Game Programming
By Mat Buckland
which aims to try and explain game AI in down to earth terms, and
explains to the novis rather then treating you like a techno master.

[Audyssey] Moderator one liner and me to messages.

2007-08-13 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi everyone,
We don't want to be a jurk about this, but the one liner and me to
messages really do need to stop or be limited. This list has had allot
of traffic the passed week talking about AGM, Sound RTS, etc which is
good. However, if all you have to say on a subject is "I agree," "me
to," "I didn't either," or anything along those lines Raul, Kevin, and I
ask that you sease with those messages or direct them to the person
directly who you are responding to and not on list.
The reasons we ask this are many, but here is just a few reasons. One
some people on this list have to pay for every minute they spend online
and the one liner and me to messages those folks have to pay for even
though they contain nothing really constructive to the conversation.
Second, the message cue has to take time sending out every one liner
message which may delay something more important from reaching the list.
Third, some of us have jobs, family, and we really don't want to waid
through lots of me to type messages just to find that one post which
really has allot to say on a subject. Fourth, even though cable and high
speed internet is becoming more popular there are still members on
dialup that have to spend time downloading their email, and all one
liner and me to messages do is slow down their email downloads for no
real constructive purpose.
What Raul, Kevin, and I would like to see is this list become an active
gaming list for blind gamers that is fun, informative, educational, and
is suitable for all ages. So let's cut back on the one liner and me to
type messages which really are not all that informative or educational.
Thanks.

[Audyssey] please be patient was About the mag

2007-08-13 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi all,
Keep in mind that a message as large as the mag requires moderator
approval. Raul approved it not long ago so it should be showing up in
your inboxes very very shortly.
However, when a mag etc is just released everyone should show patients
in waiting for the email material to show up. Saying I never got it,
where is my copy, etc just fills up list traffic for no reason. If you
haven't recieved something like the mag in several hours and then that
is a problem. However, I got my mag, the time stamp shows 8:12 EST, and
it showed up a little after 10:00 AM EST. Point being be patient and it
will show up. The mods and Ron are working as fast as human and machines
can to get the materials out to you folks, and complaining that your
copy was not instantly granted isn't going to do anything but fill the
Audyssey message cue with senseless and unconstructive messages which
will slow down rather than speed up delivery of the mag and the stuff
you really want to read.
Thanks.

Hi all,
I'd also like to make a miner correction in something I found in the mag
as well. In he article on Vista compatibility I said Chopper Command.
That should have been Chopper Patrol.
I'll be sending out an updated version of the compatibility chart next
mag with Dan Ze Games and others added into the list.

Re: [Audyssey] About the mag

2007-08-13 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi all,
It was approved not long ago so should be finding it's way into your
inboxes any time.
Be sure to check earlier in your inbox. Messages that get approved late
tend to show up near the beginning of todays messages and not later in
the days messages depending on when they were originally sent.
For example, a message that is sent out at 9:00 AM EST and isn't
approved until say 12:00 PM EST when it shows up in your inbox will be
time stamped with 9:00 AM EST, near the beginning of the days messages,
rather than be in with the 2:00 PM batch of messages.
Hope this helps.

Re: [Audyssey] About the mag

2007-08-13 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi all,
The mag should be appearing in your inboxes shortly. Keep in mind it
will likely show up earlier in your inbox than the current messages.
Messages that are approved tend to show up according to the time they
were originally sent rather than the time they were approved.
For example, a lister sends a message at 9:00 AM EST and that message
isn't approved until 12:00 PM EST will show up earlier in your inbox
with the older 9:00 AM messages and not with the 12:00 PM messages which
was the time it was approved.
Hope this helps.

[Audyssey] Sound RTS: Congrats to LHXT

2007-08-13 Thread Robert Montowski
I don't know who LHXT is on this list..
but lat night he challenged me to a game in multi-playe rmap 2..
and he totally rolled over my troops.
I thought I was sitting pretty high with 4 farms and 18 footment at the door to
my town hall.
but then the gold ran out and I needed meadows to build some more farms and
find more gold..
I moved one square away from my city and pow...boom...bash...kapow.
His 9 footmen and 3-4 knights tore my men up..sigh.
It was a massacre.
lost everybody...then his men tore thru my farms, town hall, blacksmith and I
had lost eeverything..but not quite!
I still had 1 sawmill way north of my city..he never got to it..just quit..grin.
Guess the game will not declare a total victory or loss till you lose
every man and building?
The destruction was awesome.
So congrats to LHXT whoever you are.
You rule with a mighty fist.
Robert
now a bit more humble than before...grin

[Audyssey] Game Dev: Artificial intelligence?

2007-08-13 Thread Robert Montowski
To any of the game developers up on this list..
Can you recommend any good reading material on Artificial intelligence as
regarding game development?
I have some ideas for some games, but they will all require AI opponents and I
ahve no idea how to tackle that part of the game.
I guess the programming language for the AI does not really matter as long as I
can understand the basic for te AI they are programming for.
thanks

[Audyssey] One liner messages reminder Re: About the mag

2007-08-13 Thread Raul a. Gallegos
One liner messages again. Can folks please cut back on the one liner
messages? The me-too type of messages really should go to the person
originally who you are replying to.

Many thanks.

PS. The Audyssey Magazine has just been approved, so it should be here now.

Re: [Audyssey] Looking for Other MUDs

2007-08-13 Thread Timberwolf
You know, I'd have to agree. I found it when I was fifteen, last year,
nearly a year, anyway, and I almost just bought a weightless. I found
miriani. I don't care if its a rip-off. its different. its orriginal, in my
oppinion, and its something different. And yes, I agree, all diku-muds are
the same- I tried quite a few myself.

But nevertheless, I stil go on alter aeon, not as much and not nearly as
hopeful to get to level 128, but who cares. I go on it to talk, to check on
things.

What about Medievia? People are really making things up from that mud I mean
people are saying that they ripped off diku, and all this crap when it seems
like they're custom with this whole Mob faction business for trading and
pirating in the seas, etc.

Now he's making this whole system of justice for clan towns, it sounds
pretty cool. I never saw that dragon system in a Diku codebase either.
