[Audyssey] A weerd Eamon issue

2008-12-30 Thread dark
Hi.

As people might know, at the moment I'm at my parents, and thus using my
laptop.

Obviously as I've been having lots of fun with Eamon lately, i wanted to go on
playing, even if I will have to start a new character.

Like a good computer user the zip of the Eamon delux setup folder (along with
all my other bits, bobs and programs), was duely backed up on my external
harddrive, and transferred onto my laptop.

Trying to install on the laptop however, I ran into a problem.

run the install file,. the dos console window appears, - but nothing
happens!

This confused me, afterall the laptop is running xp.

Several unzippings of the folder and I get the same result, which was
mildly annoying being as I was in a small house by the sea with my parents and
laptop and no internet, and would've rather fancied a bit of monster slaying
(though as I played through many smugglers 4 missions, it wasn't a total waste
gaming wise).

In a fit of late night insomnia, I wander into windows explorer, and decide to
try Eamon again, - afterall now I can redownload it just in case something
went wrong with the copy.

So I hit install, and up pops the Eamon install screen.

wooohooo! however when i press enter to install to the C drive, - boop! oh
dear.

I then suddenly realize, that I forgot to unzip the folder at all.

Okay, maybe 7zip is the problem then. so, I unzip the folder with the default
xp unzipping tool and taadaar! Eamon duely appears!

so the moral of this story is, despite using it on my desktop, Eamon and 7zip
don't agree.

I'm not sure if this helps anyone out, but hopefully it'll give someone a laugh
at my expense at least.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

[Audyssey] Fwd: games

2008-12-30 Thread shaun everiss
Hi all.
this is the message I sent to codefactory on the subject of gaming.
I send this as a record to the list and its archives.
These games will probably not work on vista, even so I'd actually like to play
all the adventure games, the km2000 and other things

Re: [Audyssey] Question on Smugglers

2008-12-30 Thread dark

Hi Orin.

i'm afraid I can't help with the program and Jaws, sinse I obviously use
Hal, but you mention the direct download on audiogames.net?

that's just a copy to the file download on the site, the way the other
audiogames.net game pages have copies to direct download links, so shouldn't
affect things.

Re: [Audyssey] Aemon deluxe

2008-12-30 Thread dark

Hi tom.

I'm sorry that won't fix things. this is, I'm afraid to say, the precise
reason why when I bought my new desktop in july after my old one crashed,I
absolutely insisted! upon Xp, sinse as well as Eamon and the like, there are
several old graphical pc games I use my desktop for, such as original
prince of persia.

I'm hoping that by the time I have to upgrade again, some compatibility
solutions will be found for vista, the way the compatibility issues betwene
windows 95/98 programs, and Xp were eventually fixed.

Hi Dark,
No, we have bigger problems under Vista. At least from my experience the
program won't even execute. Vista takes serious issue witht the fact Eamon
is a 16 byt application and is not a 32 byt application. I honestly
haven't looked into the matter too much, but in my initial testing Vista
basically pitchd a fit when i tried to run it. I hope someone can find a
simple solution, but I think probably not.

[Audyssey] Moderator reminder was Karaoke machine

2008-12-30 Thread Thomas Ward

Hello Ari and all,
First, if you guys aren't sure what is or not on topic the list
guidelines state you should consult one of the list moderators at

gamers-ow...@audyssey.org
to make sure your post is approved for this list.
Second, you should never assume just because something is entertainment
that it is ok to post here. As our list rules are written the primary
focus of this list is games designed for the blind by accident or
design. If a topic doesn't have any immediate relationship to gaming
then it needs to go elsewhere for discussion. This Karaoke machine
discussion is one that is not related to gaming so needs to be taken off
list.

Thanks.

Dosbox or some other dos emulator is the only way I know of that you can
do this. You can't run eamon in a regular window, its full screen by
default, and vista can't run 16 bit full screen programs, for some
unfathomable reason. There's another way, you can downgrade your video
card drivers to use xp drivers instead, that actually allows the program
to run, but the xp drivers are very unstable on vista, and I still
couldn't get the program to display text, but maybe someone with more
knowledge of such things could play around with it more.

Hi,
Well, if someone finds that answer out i'd like to know that as well. I
have a Vista laptop here, and I have had absolutely no success getting
Eamon Delux going on it. My guess is i need to try and use something
like Dosbox on it to get some of the older games like that to run.
