Hi there,
I agree. Or perhaps, make both available? I like using googlegroups
myself. Ultimately though, whatever is easiest for you.

Hello, List:

I know a number of you have been having technical issues with the
Audyssey Mailing List ever since we changed servers a few months back.
Some of you have been unsubscribed from the list without warning or
notification, some of your accounts were automatically put on no mail
by Mailman, some of you could get list mail but were unable to post
messages, and some of you haven't had any problems at all. Despite
numerous attempts to uncover the root of all these problems no one as
yet has found out what is causing these and other technical issues.

Just this afternoon another list member has come to me with problems
with his subscription. As usual I have turned it over to the server
admins in hopes that a solution may finally be found. If not then I
think it might be in our best interests to think about a different
solution. What I mean by that is simply this.

I know that many of you are here because you would prefer a mailing
list over a forum. However, it seems for whatever reason Mailman, the
software we use to run the list, is having problems making it a hassle
for many list members, the admins, and myself to keep this going as
is. If we can not resolve the technical problems in the next few days
I wonder how many of you would strongly object to me replacing this
list with an Audyssey forum similar to what Audiogames.net has now.
Alternatively if you strongly object to a forum I suppose we could go
back to Yahoo Groups or try Google Groups instead. Any thoughts?

Thomas Ward

2013-01-24 Thread Tyler Wood

Hi,

Well, if anyone else can shed some light on this it would be greatly
appreciated.
The reason I would like to transfer is because the 4s would be a lot
less sluggish at moving around the screen. The 3gs is more my secondary
character but I have no idea how to get to the settings.

I, to be quite honest, can't remember the date I created my character.

Re: [Audyssey] a little article

2013-01-24 Thread Tyler Wood

Hi,

Just my two cents here.
I like playing mainstream games on iOS, android, etc as well - lets not
leave that out of the equation. I like seeing mainstream companies have
voiceover or talkback access and, to be quite frank, any game I find
that does turn out to have it I will 99 percent of the time email the
company and tell them how much I appreciate this. Am I the only one? I
have bought at least one game from audiogame companies - I think when
someone puts the effort into developing one for our rather smaller
community I will do what I can to contribute.

Re: [Audyssey] now that its official

2009-03-10 Thread TYLER WOOD
Hi

I've ran into another problem.
It seems that one of the systems is going to have RF output, instead of AV. I
could use AV, but that would cost more than its worth - 5 bucks for the cable,
that's in US dollars, about 8 canadian. Plus 30 or so shipping.
Not sure what to use, now.
Sure, I'll email that guy and see what I can arange.

just email a...@andrelouis.com if you want to put this out

 Hi

So, its almost a given that anywhere from 4 to 5 days I'll be
getting a sega genesis, cd, and dreamcast, all in one nice
 little package.
Now, I'd like to do a podcast on each - both game wise and the
systems themselves. (history, or something like that, if anyone
 would even be interested).
I'd like to record games both by microphone and by a patch
 cable or some such.
What I mean is, for the person who doesn't know much about a
game, I'll give a brief intro, or maybe explain what I'll be
doing during loading times (sega cd comes to mind there where
that will mostly be taken advantage of).
Finally, how would I go about recording the real deal - the
person who just wants to hear the game in action?
And how would you recommend seperating that from the part where
I record using a microphone? (parts of the podcast, or would you
rather I do it all in one big chunk instead of part 1 and part
 2)? I guess I could do miriani-like - have 3, part 1, part
2, and the full version parts 1 and 2 combined?
What I'd technically like to do is play the game while
recording with a microphone and also with some sort of cable,
but not sure how that will be done, since the cable has to be
plugged into the headphone jack (on my stario) and line in jack
on a computer, because what I orriginally wanted to do was do
each thing seperately. BUt the conflict there is if I said
something like wow, that was a great fatality, but I didn't do
it while recording with line in, people might be confused.
So how would I go about doing this? I can't wait to start podcasting.
Well actually, one thing I could do...lol, is not even use a
tv. Just bring the systems downstairs to my room, hook it up to
a computer and somehow listen to the game through speakers while
 recording it via line in?
I'm still confused as to how that would work, though.

I'm probably repeating myself here, so will stop.

 Anyone have any ideas?

 thanks
 - Tyler

 Hello everyone,
Do to problems with the USA games mail server I just want to let
everyone know from now on I will be using my Google web mail account
as my default e-mail address. For those who do not yet have it saved
in their address books this e-mail address is
 thomasward1...@gmail.com
and it will be my primary e-mail address from now on.
For those of you who use the
 i...@usagames.us
 address and the
 tw...@usagames.us
address they should continue to work after my web host resolves the
problems with my mail server, but I will be using them as mail
forwarding addresses only. What this means is I will change the
account settings for those e-mail accounts to automatically redirect
all mail sent to those addresses directly to the
 thomasward1...@gmail.com
address rather than being full e-mail accounts with their own inbox
 etc on my mail server.
 Thanks.

To: Audyssey gamers discussion list gamers@audyssey.org

Exactly four years after the first public release of Top Speed
1.1, an updated version of Top Speed 2 is available for testing.
Top Speed 2.1 has some bug fixes compared to 2.0 aswell as some
 minor new features:

 the menu has been rearranged
some new sounds, tracks and cars
 more realistic physics model
support for custom tracks in multiplayer
 Known issues:
In the menu, two sounds won't be playing simultaneously anymore,
except in the local internet game selection menu, where this
 issue can still occur.
The ReadMe contains some 'empty' sections. This will be fixed in
 the final release.
Sometimes the game crashes when you leave the assign keys
 section of the options menu
The X-Sight Interactive TS2 Utility Pack also could contain some
bugs or problems. As this pack isn't a product of Playing in the
dark, you can send your bug reports or questions to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 sight-interactive.net
We would like to thank Davy Kager from Ducktail Games for the
programming assistance. A special thanks to Damien Sadler for
contributing the TS2Pack. Also a thank you for Arjan Tool,
Melanie van Egmond, Axel Vugts and Florian Bijers for the
 initial testing.
Note: This is a release candidate version, which means that the
game could still contain some bugs and issues. Please mail your
bug reports (with the tracing.txt file attached) to

Re: [Audyssey] Opinion of Meriani after 1 day: meh.

2008-01-30 Thread Tyler Wood
Well, I love it. I love artifacting, because I can sit back and read a book
all day, and (I'm off school today! r! Its blizarding out.) So, I think
I'll go about 700 more ly out and start heading back in. The cool thing
about miriani is the fact that you can do so many things. You can hardly
touch on all the great things you can do in it. (I didn't play SC, sorry,
although it sounded really cl!) I can bearly touch on anything- that's
the nice thing. Its got such a veriety of stuff to do you never get bored
with it. Lets see.

debris salvaging
asteroid hauling
missioning
atmospheric salvaging
archaeology
mining
artifacting
coming soon, relics
planetary surveying
the scanning of wormholes
buying new ships and trying to get the money and points to upgrade them
buying apartments and, if you have 5000 points, and 2 billion credits a
house
Just having fun.
What else, oh yeah. They have really good fast food places there. MCDoogles,
anyone? Or how about Lukes bar and grill. You'll find it all.

Its just so fun, I can't describe it, but I love it anyway.

I finally broke down and decided to make a return to Meriani after
listening to it being tossed around on this list as the everything of
gaming. After playing it a bit, I only have to say... what's different?
Still feels like SC to me. Which would be fine, except I'm generally not a
fan of games like SC. I'll play around with it a bit more as I come up
with time to, but as it stands right now... jury's still out. Ask me in a

 Hello everyone

Okay I'm sending out the usual reminder today about the next issue of the
mag. It will be the first of 2008 and hopefully I'll be able to include
 something about the upcoming voting/awards.
I want to encourage, and almost beg, content thus far is going to be
 thin!
So articles and reviews are extremely important to make this publication
 good this time.
A few review ideas would include:
 Homer on a Harley
Monty preferably from someone with an unlocked version but not necessarily
 7-128 gamebook games

Articles could be about genres of games not yet fully explored, types of
games you prefer to play over others and why, and even poetry as we
 featured
an issue or two back. Almost anything game related!
As always I'll do my best to put together Audyssey and make it a good one
but help is not only welcome but needed in keeping the diversity and
 viewpoints fresh.

 Thanks
 Ron

Got one around somewhere? I could send you the solution, off list, if I
remember how to do it. Or I could send the solution in as an article for
Audyssey, along with a way to maybe make one of the games if I can think
 of
a way to do it using a sheet of braille paper and a Perkins brailler,
 using
pennies and a dime as the game pieces.

It was called 15 numbers. It was played within a 4 by 4 grid. There are
 15
tiles numbered 1 through 15, and a blank space. You had to scramble the
tiles up, then slide them around so that the desired number sequence was
achieved. Or, there was Hi Q, in which you started with the center hole
empty, and you had to remove the peg you jumped over until there was only
 1
peg remaining on the board, in the center hole. The one remaining peg
 was
of a different color than all the others, and you had to place it into
 the
correct place at the beginning of the game so that, if you made the right
moves, it was the only peg remaining, and it was in the center hole.
 Both
 games are fun.

Rofl, that is quite helarious, Valiant.

Anyway, yeah, I agree. You just shouldn't play these games until your like
12 (the violent ones that is) although I guess a lot of kids under that age
do. Also depends on maturity level- for me, I think I was mature by 10. But
for others, it might take them until 15. Anyway, just my thoughts.

 Hi Thomas,

That's cool that you wrote and played your own text card and board games.
As you said for programming practice and so that you could play the
 games.
That really was why I wrote them as well. I mean because I wanted to
 play
them and at that time there were not any games like that that were
accessible. It was like back in like 1990 that I first got on line and
got into the FidoNet Email lists such as Blink Talk and Blind Talk. That
and searching the BBSs was how I found that there was a need to share the
games that I was producing for my own playability. It sure was nice to
 be
able to share the games and find out that others appreciated them.

 You said
What I was trying to point out was that for me I was extremely
disappointed that back in 99 or so when I first joined this comunity
most of the discussion centered around card games, board games, and

Ok, it just sounded to me like you were saying that games like that were
useless and people shouldn't even waste time making them because no one
would even want to play them.

Yeah, you got on line about the time that the first David Greenwood games
for windows were coming out. We sure have come along way since the days
of the dos games where we didn't have a sound file playing engine like
DirectX. I thought that it was very exciting when David openly here
 asked
for input and worked on creating the first accessible live action first
person shooter game. It then gave me the idea that I could try to do the
same with the first accessible live action auto racing game. I can still
play these live action games for hours like I used to play video games.

Yeah, it may very well be an age difference thing as I am still an anti
war, anti violence, long hair, peace loving hippie. Or it may be a
personality difference thing. I just have never gotten into any of the D
and D or other role play type of games. And of course I would never ever
take my pet cat and throw it into a swimming pool just to hear it scream.

 BFN

Re: [Audyssey] This is Ridiculous

2008-01-29 Thread Tyler Wood
Hey pal

I think I posted about 3 times today. No. make that 4. Your the one who
should learn to count, because i have only posted about at most 6 times. i
only post replies to messages which I find interesting, and which I feel I
can reply easily, for example if I know what I'm doing. But whatever, I
don't care, but that was just rather rediculous in itself as you must not be
able to see the fact that maybe I posted maybe 8 times in the last 2 days.
Is it because I check my email in bulk? if so, I'm sorry, but I'm not
changing my habbits and nobodies ever bitched about it to me before, so one
complain isn't going to change it.
Thanks

I'm tired of deleting 35 messages per day, most of them by Ward and

working on your games, not constantly sitting on the list, replying to

Good god dude. I think Tyler's viing for your position in the top of the

single message on the list. You complain about one-liners and me too

as for me, I like mell, ray, rich, mike, from ATT, and from loquendo TTS
 I
like Dave but I can't understand him all the same, I understand Kenneth
 but
I don't like him, cackle that's what my brother's name is, heeheeheehee,
let's see, I swear by ESpeak, I understand it pretty good and I like the
responsiveness, but I don't get fooled about it sounding human but that
wasn't the point, I like keynote gold too, easy for me to understand, I
 also
found accent easy to understand, never used an accent, but listened to a
couple of recordings and it was amazing for me. there's also dectalk, both
the normal one and the one from phonix, I like both but think I prefer the
ordinary one, phonix screwed up the inflection for it. I do love that
 roger
voice that's in phonix ISpeak for pocket pc though, he rocks, not the
easiest to understand though, just sounds really neat. Then there's
neospeech Kate and Paul, they're both super, then there's the real speak
voices, all good but I prefer tom and Daniel and lee, tom primarily, he's
more responsive than the other ones are. After that, how about akapela
voices, Ryan is amazing, not very responsive though. Like Alex from Mac,
Ryan breathes, but not very often, but sometimes you can hear him whoosh a
bit before he goes to say something. Speaking of Alex, I'm judging by
podcasts, but I lve Alex too, and that one voice I talk about from hal
that we can't figure out who it is, he's monotonous, but he definitely
 isn't
synthetic, he might be a festival voice or something, but I know there's
some biphone voices from orpheus so maybe that's what it is? Then there's
eloquences, easiest for me to understand since I been listening to it for
like 10 years almost every day, but I want to hear other voices sometimes.
Flight? I really really can't get the hang of Kevin, maybe with more
 effort
I could figure out what he's jawing at me. Then of course Braille lite and
Braille n speak, sad old synth, I'd say the worse I've heard, makes lots
 of
mistakes with pronunciations where something eloquence doesn't, and it's
inflection is sad and the pitches of what it says isn't very good, it
 worked
though, and it was probably the best when it first came out? Then there's
triple talk, or is it light talk, what ever the one is that's in the
 blm40,
and the book port, that synth is awesome, sorta hard to understand but it
just rocks all the same. It's the one that's in the turbo lite talk 4.1 or
what ever the version is. Oh, and say it, cackle say it is hilarious. As
 for
games, well, I reckon Paul, and mell, ray and maybe rich would be good
 menu
readers, but I believe characters and such should be done by peeps.

In order to use FS 2002 with Jaws or Window Eyes you need to buy a third

Re: [Audyssey] This is rediculous.

2008-01-29 Thread Tyler Wood
I will refer you back to valiants previous post about message rules in
outlook express.

1. I like all the audyssey traffic
2. audyssey is my favorite list, and I don't want it to change
3. I don't intend to slow down my posting
4. I don't have a problem with all these messages, maybe you won't either
after this.
5. It'll be easier to count how many messages I send if you follow these
steppes, you won't have to sift through spam as you count.
6. email client message rules just rock, oh, and one problem consists of
whether you're using outlook express or windows mail but S E P

message rules:
I want to offer some advice for this here list. You can create a message
rule in outlook express or windows mail, these instructions match almost
exactly for outlook and for windows live mail.
A message rule can sort out messages you want to have separated, and put
them somewhere else, this way you can mess with those messages at your
leisure and get to your important stuff when you want. Also, you can apply
these techniques to delete messages all together from me if you want.
1. Press alt+t This puts you in the tools menu
2. Up arrow several times looking for something labeled something similar to
message rules and hit enter on it. This is commonly a sub menu, so select
mail in the sub menu of message rules and hit enter on that too
3. tab around until you find a button that will allow you to create a new
rule, in windows mail this is new... button. hit enter on it
4. You're put in a list view of checkable items. arrow to where the to line
contains specific people and hit space to check it. If your screen reader
isn't reading state checked or unchecked properly hit space on it anyway, it
likely wasn't checked by default. Now press tab to move into the actions to
take list view, and arrow to move it to the specified folder, and hit space
to check it. Hit tab again, to land in step 3, which is an interesting read
only edit field.
5. Hit your arrow keys until you find where the to line contains specific
words and hit space on it. If that didn't work, mine dinged at me, hit enter
on it, that ought to do the trick. This puts you in an edit field that's
labeled something like type specific words or a phrase, then click add.
Type
Gamers@audyssey.org
without the quotes into this field, tab to add and
hit space, now tab to ok button and hit space one more time. You end up back
in that nifty little read only edit field,
6. arrow in it again till you find move it to the specified folder. Hit
enter there. You wind up in a folder tree view, move round till you're
sitting on inbox, press tab until you land on new folder button, hit
space on that.
7. type something like Audyssey, hit enter
8. arrow to newly created audyssey, hit enter.
9. Verify you've got something like this
quoting:
Apply this rule after the message arrives
Where the To line contains
'gamers@audyssey.org'
Move it to the audyssey folder
unquote.
10. Now, tab once, this is the name of your new message rule, type something
like filter audyssey and hit tab.
11. You wind up on the ok button, hit space there.
12. You're in a dialogue that has a list of message rules, and buttons with
which you can do things to those rules. Shift+tab or tab till you find the
list of rules, arrow to Filter Audyssey. Now tab to apply now... button and
hit space. Press tab to land on select all button, and hit space there, now
shift+tab repeatedly till you end up on apply now button and hit space on
it.
13. you get a pause as folders are moved about, then you get an ok button
confirming you've finished applying the rule. Hit space on that ok button,
then tab to the close button and hit space on it.
14. Finally, tab to the ok button and hit space on that too.
15. Back in list of messages, hit shift+tab, you'll probably get inbox,
down arrow once, after making sure inbox is expanded, you'll probably find
Audyssey somewhere abouts, when you do find it, tab back into the message
list, and your audyssey messages should all be in there.
16. Wait, there's no 16.

Now, please, stop complaining, because your just inflating our inboxes even
more with email that's even less interesting than what Valiant posted (and
his responses are well rounded, so why are you complaining in the first
place. If his emails were one word emails, then I could see your point. But
they're not. So just wow, chill.).

Keynote voice, wich is one reason I don't use the Braille Note. I
particularly hated it when playing some of the games you could get for the
BNS. I remember there was a Chess game and a Blackjack game, but I hated
them because of the voice. Granted it was sort of cool at first but after
a
while it just got on my nerves.

 Hi Bryan,
Are you kidding? I hated the Echo's voice. I would take Braille N Speak
voice over Echo any day. Though, my opinion might be based on the fact I
spent a lot of time after going blind using a Braille N Speak. It was
like a part of me all through school and college.
You see, when I first started losing my vision the teachers first put me
on the braille writer. I expressed almost from the beginning I wanted to
use a computer instead of this clunky, metal, old contraption. They of
course told me I needed to use it to learn braille and become a braille
 user. Yada, yada, yada.
Well, finally I managed to get my way and the school provided me with a
new device called a braille and Speak from Blazie Engineering. I used
the school's for a while, and got my local Lion's club to see how
wonderful a device it was so they baught me one for school and hopefully
college. After I got my own BNS it went everywhere with me. On the bus,
to school, to the store, on vacations, you name it. It was almost like
borg implanted to my person, and I didn't give it up until I managed to
get a laptop with JFW and Eloquence on it around 1998 or so.

 Bryan wrote:

 terms
 of
 speech quality.

Re: [Audyssey] bop it

Firefox isn't a real download manager. It doesn't save your settings when
you shut down the pc. I recommend free download manager. Email me off list.

In regards to bopit, I heard it can change your sound scheme in windows a

I like the bop it game.
I've managed to download it. when I tried downloading it for the third
 time
 it worked.
I don't know what went wrong the first 2 attempts.
I just battle a lot with fire fox if I wish to pause a download and
 continue it later on.
If I click pause then the pause button changes to resume, but if I then
 try
to exit fire fox, it asks me if I want to cancel the download, and then
there is only 2 buttons: don't exit and cancel download.
If I shut down my pc while the download window is still active, after I
clicked pause, when I turn it on the next day and if I go back to fire
 fox,
I press control j for downloads but then it says: download canceled.
It gives the name of the file and then it says canceled, not paused.
Is there a way to pause a download, and then be able to resume it after I
shut down my pc and I turn it on later?
Steering this post back to gaming, bopit is quite challenging. Thus far I
 only got to 99.
The f5 key is tricky but lighttechinteractive wants to simulate the
 bopit
toy so it's a nice challenge.

Actually this is not completely true. quake was made in 96 and you
can download the source code and shareware game, however, the full
game is still under copyright to my knowledge, and the maps (after the
first episode) can only be gotten legally from that CD.

However, I'm not sure anyone would likely prosecute someone
for obtaining them as I believe you can do so widely on the web, and
as you said, the game is old and no longer supported...

As for Quake, alas, no, I know of no store at present that has it
aside from *well, you asked me not to say it!* lol! So I won't...

You should know though, that you don't need the paid version of the
game to enjoy the mods or online play YOu can also play the
entire first episode of the single player game if you'd like. So the
shareware version may be quite enough if you're interested in those
 game types...

Best of luck to you and sorry I couldn't be of more help...

Well, for one thing, elequence can be cranked up to speak so much faster.
For another, other languages are easy to port to it, I think? And yet

and I had like 20 ships near me and they were all locking onto me at once,

 Hi Claudio,
Hmmm... I sort of was assuming here that everyone had heard the Scansoft
voices etc, but yes if I had to I could provide little mp3 clips of the
voices themselves saying a simple Hello I am voice x message if need be.
As far as using the voice files as MP3 files in the game that wouldn't
be advisable for a couple of reasons. Most operating systems allow
linear sound sampling like pcm, (wav files,) but don't support all
 compression formats natively.
For example, after the mp3 format went commercial operating systems had
to license the MP3 technology to support mp3 format so Linux has pulled
it from the default supported formats. You can get the support for mp3
by installing it from commercial Linux archives, but it isn't installed
by default. So using mp3 under Linux isn't a good idea even though Linux
users can theoretically get the support rather easily.
Second, I have experienced first hand under Windows that compressing
voice files into mp3, ogg, etc dramatically slows down load times for
speech. I'd rather use the extra space for wav pcm samples which load
faster than use a compression format that slows down game performence.

 Claudio wrote:

 This is a good idea!
Not all system have the same voices installed...
Can you upload examples of these voices that we can listen?
 Regards, Claudio.

 Hi,
Having extra voice packs for a small game wouldn't be too bad, but for
large projects there would be no way. For example, as part of my porting
process for Tomb Raider I have about 200 wav samples of Scansoft Karen,
and it is far from finished.
I know STFC 1.2 shipped with 296 wav samples of Scansoft Karen, and the
earlier Alphas actually had well over 300.
It takes around three or four days alone just to create one set of voice
files, and then they have to be tested to make sure they work properly.

 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
Hmm. Here's an but abserd idea. Why not have sound packs for all the
 voices? That'll be a
lot of work most likely. If they were standard wav files, people could
 make their own packs, and
 then everyone would be happy.

Myself, I like Eloquence, Dectalk is also good. But for a game ScanSoft
 Tom,
Daniel, and Samantha, also Jill are good.

I have Karen, but I usually use Tom or Daniel.

Yeah, I must have mine set slower then. Its set to about 85 percent on the
slider. The max at 100 percent is 150. Not sure what those numbers mean,

they must not be words per minute.

Re: [Audyssey] this speaker placement bug is gettinginterestinginsarah!

2008-01-14 Thread Tyler Wood
Hi,

I really, really, really do not mean to be offensive, but I'm going to sound
like I'm complaining, which I kind of am.

Do you mind, well, er, reading the manual, e-mailing the creator (Phil)
about this? Imho its kind of repeating itself, how do you do this, how do
you do that. I really don't mean to sound like I'm bitching, sorry. Maybe if
I had the game I'd know what your going through, but honestly, well, ok,
'nuff said. I just find the list being cluttered with the same questions
about Sara.

Now, I hope I don't get flamed or anything. Just my feelings and stuff,
however little its worth.

Why is it not in the walk through then?
The walk through is suppose to contain all the spoilers.
I never gave out something without spoiler space that is in the walk
 through.
Bottom line is, the speaker placement function does not work and I need to
use it as I sometimes put the earbuds in my ears in the wrong position.

 Hi Nicol,
Please check with me first if you think you found a bug.
I put that speaker placement feature in deliberately.
You go to a place in the map then the speaker voice goes around you and
 then
you go back to where you were.
it works on the ground floor but I left it in for the others as an easter
 egg not as a bug.

This bug with the speaker placement function now gets helpful in the
 griphendor common room.
If I'm in a boys or girls dormitory and I hit c I'm back in the
 griffendoor
common roomclose to the fat lady.
On previous floors if I hit c I'm jammed inside a wall, now if I hit c
 susan
says: speaker placement and then I hear the lady snoring and I can walk
 properly.

 Hi Stefen,
You aren't the first person who has said that to me. I have a friend who
is also blind, but she is almost deaf in one ear and some partial loss
in the other. She use to tell me she had problems using her Dectalk
Express but could understand Eloquence clearly. I never understand how
 that could be.
With my own experience when Eloquence was released with JFW 3.2 I
couldn't understand it, and couldn't stand it. Of course, after a couple
of releases I got use to it, and now days I can listen to it at high
 speed.

 Stefen Hudson wrote:

 Other
voices have a warble to them sometimes. Maybe it's the frequency range
 too.

Re: [Audyssey] question about USA games product keys was: Prefered Sapi voice for games?

2008-01-14 Thread Tyler Wood
Not to mention the fact that right now, I've got 3 systems.

First, I have a laptop, my best system, with a 2 ghz processor, and 1 gb
ram.

Secondly, I have a desktop with a 1.1 ghz processor and 512 mb ram.

Last and third, I'll hopefully be getting (free!) a 700 MHZ or 1 ghz, I
dunno exactly wht it is, desktop. Now, if I buy a game, will I have to
request a key for each system? because honestly I use all 3 systems a lot,
so was just curious. Sorry for the change of subject.

 Hi Shaun,
On a whole using Sapi 5 voices is a good thing. It makes development
move faster and it is way more flexable than using pre-recorded speech.
Even i am sort of growning at going back to pre-recorded speech.
However, using Sapi tts engines has a dark side I wasn't aware of back
 then.
One, Sapi 5 tends to be a rather unstable technology. While it seams to
work for most people I have had around 10 to 20 users where Sapi wasn't
working, and trying to get it working again was difficult and time
consuming. Usually, it was do to uninstalling or installing some Sapi
engine that broke the entire Sapi 5 architecture.
Second, I am going multiplatform and Java. Java currently doesn't have a
good way to handle Sapi 5 tts, and I don't want to have to pay extra to
support Sapi 5 in Java currently. I think the cost is unnecessary to
 design a reasonably good game.
Third, since Raceway, Tomb Raider, and other games are scheduled to go
multiplatform adding things like Sapi would be catering totally to the
Windows market, and leave other operating systems in the dark on what to
use for tts. Probably FreeTTS something like that which is much lower
 quality than say Scansoft.
The thing to do which is both multiplatform and can sound good is
packing my own speech with the game. Larger game size, but not to bad
since they will be packed and compressed in the games jar file.

 shaun everiss wrote:
I think that there should be sound packs for those that wants them and
sapi for those that it works with.
I also like the current way things are being done, call me sellfish or
whatever but everyting works here, but maybe its because I have
 realspeak
on here rather than anything else.
If I hadn't got rs loaded I'd be pushing for speech voices.
Besides tom you were touting sapi as a really good thing when we did
 have
voice packs and I was against that, now just when I am getting used to
the small filesizes its like um, voice files again.

A funny story.
When the SIMs first came out, I got a copy and made a baby.
(Don't ask. It was very tame)
But then the baby started crying. Seems it needed something, like food
 maybe.
Well, my wife and I never had kids. So I know absolutely nothing about
 babies.
Then a thunder storm started outside our (real) house.
So I had to save and shut down quick.
But the dratted SIMs game didn't make it clear how to save and get out.
And that dratted baby kept crying.
Finally, I just killed the program (and presumably the baby)

 So much for child rearing.

 Hi Tyler,
Well actually Flight Simulator isn't accessible. I have a copy of it
myself and OK, you can navigate through the menus and start a game, but
this is where the accessibility ends. You don't know whether your
airplane is flying or not, you don't know the height and speed of your
airplane and you don't know in which part of the world you actually
are... My suggestion: return the game if it's still possible and get
some other audio games. But anyway, where can I download Scott's

changed the reality level to high or something. Well since I'm really
into flying and even was able to fly the (real) flight simulator of the
German Lufthansa airline, I'd really love to talk to Scott on Skype to
go through the process of setting it up, creating a flight plan and,
most importantly, flying! Scott, I think you are on this list as well.
Do you think that would be possible?
 Robin

Re: [Audyssey] Do you want a manual for the psp?

2007-12-18 Thread Tyler Wood
It would be excellent! Especially being able to know all of the menu
sequences in order (game, music, etc).
Also a physical description of the unit itself would be great.

Subject: [Audyssey] Do you want a manual for the psp?

Hi.

I have thought about it the last munth, and one of my friends have just
recommended me to make it. Wouldn't it be cool with a manual for the PSP
which describes how to use all it's accessible features? One of my friends
will maybee get a psp for cristmess, and he will find a manual which
describes how to use it as a blind person very useful. I'm sure other people
also would in joy a manual just to se how accessible it is and how it works.
What do you all think about this idea?

If you have any questions regarding the psp, just feel free to ask me.

Best regards:
Søren Jensen

Re: [Audyssey] Monkeyterm and Windos Vista.

2007-12-09 Thread Tyler Wood
You need the comm audio, I think. I'm not sure where you can get it, though,
this is for sounds, I'm not sure if it relates to the dll file, but as far
as I know nobody had problems using it with vista, besides the sounds, and i
dont use vista myself, so couldn't help you there.

Hmm. I got that to work, but now the jfwapi won't work. Monkeyterm uses
VBScript to access jfwapi.dll, and whenever it tries to speak it brings up
all these VBScript runtime errors, saying it can't create objects and
 object
 required.

I did try manually registering jfwapi.dll, but it says the dll was loaded
but couldn't be registered. My guess is Vista doesn't like jfwapi, haha.
Maybe it's that user account thing again

 Hi,

 Quote
I'm hoping this isn't off topic, as it deals with accessibility somewhat.

This is quite on topic. So don't worry about it. Monkey Term is on topic
since allot of users do use it on here for accessing muds.

I've heard people are using the Monkeyterm client with Windows Vista.
 I've attempted
this myself, however I'm getting an error message when I attempt to
 launch the program.

It is possible Monkey Term is crashing do to Vista's User Account
control. Try the following and see if it helps. To bypass Vista's UAC
go to the Monkey Term icon, press the context menu key, arrow to run as
administrator, and press enter. Vista will prompt you to confirm, and
then launch the program as a full administrator. In my personal
experience this usually bypasses allot of crashes on apps that can't run
 do to UAC.
