Re: [Audyssey] monty trailer
Hi Tom, I don't know how the torch works but it would be cool to allow you to carry it and when you get into a room, light it to check out the treasure, then have the ability to put it out to save it for later. Like the way David did the smoke screen feature in Tank Commander. You could have the treasure go to full volume when the torch is lit or play an undistorted sound. When the torch is not lit you could still hear them but not as well or they could be distorted like I have the caretaker's voice when he is in his office in Sarah. In this case I have two sound files and play the distorted one if you do not have your extendible ears on. smiles, Phil - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Sunday, January 21, 2007 1:31 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] monty trailer Hi Phil, Yeah, again that is possible, but I am not sure if it is practical long term. WEll you could make some treasures in certain rooms near torches not make sounds. For example in james North's version there was a room full of about 8 gems but you couldn't know that they were there unless you've been there with a torch. - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Sunday, January 21, 2007 1:31 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] monty trailer Hi Phil, Yeah, again that is possible, but I am not sure if it is practical long term. Hi Nicol, Yes, that is the correct link. The reason I.E. and Firefox and other web browsers are reporting a visited link is I did not change the link. Re: [Audyssey] monty trailer
Hi Nicol, Well, in the old Atari classic many of the temple rooms were dark and all of the items were not visible. If you grabbed a torch from another room you could enter that room, and all of the items were visible to get. In the USA Games creation torches really don't have a navigational purpose like the original since the game is based on audio. They do however have a point value, and well using one does in some way give somewhat the feeling of what the original game was like. Even if it doesn't exactly do what the original did. In the classic game torches only lasted so long so you had to be quick about grabbing one, taking it to a dark room, use it and hurry up and grab all the gems, gold, etc before you lost your light. The only way I can see this being recreated in our game is to have some sort of flag if a game is in an dark room and there is no torch play no sound. ___ Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] monty trailer
I think James had a good system where you'd still hear important navigational sounds but not treasures and items if you were in a dark room without a torch. That would at least make torches useful. Also, you could have some secret areas where you can only detect the entrances to with a lit torch. Re: [Audyssey] monty trailer
Hi Michael, I'll keep that in mind for Alpha 3. I just now got the UpdateSound function working properly, and I'd kind of hate to meddle with it this close to the release for Alpha 2, but I will certainly keep it in mind for a later release. As you said the best way to emulate the original Monty would be to not have treasure sounds play if you don't have a torch, but have them play when you have one. This does have a bit of a downside. The first torch you encounter is like room 9 or 10. There is quite a bit of treasure items you need before that point so I am not sure if silencing the treasure without a torch is the most practical thing in the long run. ___ Gamers mailing list .. Hi Nicol, Yes, in some cases Arazona Smith will scream when dying. He will scream when falling off a ledge or landing in a fire pit. Others like quicksand, lava pits, drounding in water, being crushed by a boulder, will be different. As it happens I am waiting to debug the level and for my voice narater to finish with the files, and I will be putting out a more up to date trailor. nicol wrote: Hay thom I listened to your monty trailer. Re: [Audyssey] MONTY TRAILER
Hi Nicol, No, Arizona Smith is a man not a woman. You probably didn't play James North's version of Montezuma's Revenge, but Arazona Smith was in that version and has made a come back in the USA Games version. As for what Arizona Smith sounds like listen to Smith's death sounds in Monkey Business. James North was using many of the same sounds in Monty as Monkey Business so in some regards they do sound similar. Although, I have swapped some sounds out for better ones. Hope this answers your questions. nicol wrote: Oh I thought aerazona is a woman, lol. Anyway will his scream be as when you are kille din sod? ___ Gamers mailing list .. Hi Charles, I guess I did. Didn't give any suspense on what he will sound like. Hi Richard, Did you download the mp3 file, or did it attempt to play in Windows Media Player? You should have downloaded the mp3 to your hard drive. If not then your media setting must be setup to attempt to play files from the source which is not how that file was meant. Hi Thom, I am using JFW and when I was certain that the focus was on the link I tried both just hitting the enter key and left clicking on the link. Then the window would just change to a blank screen with the menu of home, download, and the such. I didn't think of using the context menu.
