[Audyssey] RSW test game?
What is the id for the test game in RSW that David Rose set up? I've joined a different game, but I should probably join the test game as well. Hi Chris, Sorry, that game has already started. Maybe we should start up another test game? Re: [Audyssey] RSW test game?
If you want to start an advanced test game, I'm completely on board; I find the core and classic variations less interesting. I'm currently using the web interface in the (I think) Forest-c3 specialty game. I've submitted my first turn's orders on draft status. The web interface is pretty clean and easy to gather info from, though an updated client would make certain things easier. The biggest information lack I can see is the relative geography of planets. The topology is the most important consideration, but it would be useful to know where in relationship to the other players a planet is. If the graphical client provides an overview to a sighted player, this is information that is thus far unavailable to the blind player. I'm led to think this may not be an issue by the sections in the help document that discuss the use of the client and in particular the map editing feature. It seems like absolute position is almost irrelevant. If so, then other than effort, we're not at any disadvantage I can perceive at this point. Re: [Audyssey] RSW test game?
Hi Chris, Right, absolute position is completely irrelevant, and (generally) isn't provided to the sighted player either. In fact, the graphical client is only a data management tool, and it works solely with the data provided in the text report--no data other than that is available to any players. Other people on this board have expressed an interested in a Classic or Advanced game.If I started one of these, how many people would want to join? Of course, I don't want people to feel overwhelmed by too many games at once. Re: [Audyssey] RSW test game?
Hi David, I think I would join a classic or advanced test game, but only after the core game which currently runs has finished. I simply want to get the hang of the simpler game first before I start a more complicated one. So, if you wait for the core game to finish before you start another one, I'll join it. I don't have time to play in more than one game at the same time anyway. Re: [Audyssey] RSW test game?
I find the concept of the advanced game with it's character types most interesting, but I'd prefer to work up to it with a core game first to get used to giving orders, and also investigate possible ways of overviewing textual map information, sinse the last thing I want to find is I get bogged down in simply knowing where my fleets and my opponent's fleets are even as I'm trying to deal with gather artifacts, robotic or human population, industry, converts and all the other fun stuff in the advanced game. it strikes me a core game gives the chance to investigate the rsw system and any possible accessibility tweaks which may need to be made, before getting into complex stratogy. so, though as essentially a less aggressive player who deffinately! likes the idea of the missionary or collector styles rather than the conquest idea, i think I'll stick with the core game for the time being. i also do not fancy multiple games at once currently I'm afraid. Hi Dark and All, I agree. I'd love an advanced or classic game after our current one finishes. I don't want to try to learn too many concepts at once. Best, Zack. Re: [Audyssey] RSW test game?
I'm happy to report on issues that come up in the advanced/specialty games. The game I'm in has three additional character types, key and ship hoarders that do what they suggest and a remnant of a progenitor race that appears to partake of weaker versions of everyone else's powers and score points based on all the victory conditions. I chose to play a missionary as it complemented the strengths of my two other team members (oh yes, it's a team game too.) I've managed to submit first turn orders, though I've kept them as draft, i.e. not submitted to the server until I have had a chance to coordinate with my team mates who are offering me game advice. As an aside, I think you'll find the web interface less of a learning challenge than the email interface. The page is clean and easy to move around, as everything is set up in nice tables, with the order field near the bottom. There's even a handy link to the order syntax, so that you can have this open in a separate tab and refer back to it. The orders are described in the order of phases that happen through the turn, so you can just go from heading to heading in the order codes and see which orders occur in what sequence. All in all, this is a much simpler web interface than say, Core Exiles or Ashes of Angels, the most recent web-based games I've tried. A client would be nice, but really, I was able to do my first turn in under five minutes once I had the hang of setting up the order codes and the rules in separate tabs to flip between while researching what in heck I was doing Now that I've done it once, though the turns will quickly get more complex, it should go smoothly enough, particularly with a week between turns and two teammates with a vested interest in me doing well.
