Re: [Audyssey] Mississippi

2011-05-27 Thread dark
There is stil the demo on blind cool tech about the game which mardi posted,
though for some reason the audio presentation on the mardi website is down.

As regards the game overall, it's always stuck me mississippi is one of
those games which would be far more fun with multiple players than alone.

Whenever I've tried it, I've just been waiting with stock to sell for the
random markit changes, buy something else wait for some randomness etc, with
the odd event thrown in.
As a single player game I never personally found there was enough to keep me
interested which is why i've never bought it.

However, if those same random factors and messages could be affecting other
players, I could see the game changing, much the way something like monopoly
or the game of life becomes far more fun with more players.

I actually wish Mardi would release a version with either the ability to
play against computer opponents or, better stil, an online play mode, sinse
being turn based it'd be perfect to play across the net with other people.

As a single player game though I've always found it lacking, which is a
shame sinse obviously lots of work has gone into it.

Beware the grue!

Re: [Audyssey] Mississippi

2010-11-17 Thread dark
well charles, yes as you might guess I've played it, (I did write the page
afterall ;D).

Myself, I have two specific problems with the game.

firstly, trading seems extremely random sinse each turn you can only trade a
couple of things, and the chance of prices getting better or worse seems
based on luck, so frequently I end up buying stuff, then waiting ages until
I can make a prophit, where as in most trading sims (such as smugglers),
it's possible to travel around and look for the best deals.

That brings me on to my second problem with the game.

no traveling. While there are special events, I've rarely been affected by
them, which basically leaves me sitting around waiting to sell and hoping
the random factors will let me make cash, where as in other trading sims I
can at least wander around and explore the environment a bit.

I'm not sure if this is specifically because I've only ever played single
player (it seems a lot of the games' events would be more interesting with
more players). I actually wish there was the possibility of having a
computer opponent in the game just to see what it ends up like because I
suspect that the game can be a good deal more interesting with more players.

Btw, the sounds are really good, as is the accessibility (Hal's fine with
it), I just wish there was more to the single player experience and a bit
less randomness.

Mississippi - a trading simulation for all adventurers

Mississippi is a trading simulation which starts in 1770 in the wild
 west of good old America.
One day you receive a letter, that your uncle who's living in
America has died and bequeaths you his whole properties. That means
 50 square meters of stockroom,
1000 $ and 50 grain. The letter tells you also, that you are born in
America, but your Mother where gone back shortly after you where born.
After reading the letter you decide to jump at this chance. You
leave your old home and emigrate to the new world.
You have to buy and sell your goods, build kontors in several towns,
build wagons, and earn money. And, if you are good enough, be at
 least president of
America. But, as in real live, there are good and bad news, some for
yourself, some for all players. E.g. you can win a lot of money, or
 all your wagons
could not leave your HQ and so you won't get goods for this round.

You can play the game with 5 persons. And, that's a very interesting
fact, you can play it with sighted people together.

There is much music, and most of the news are spoken. The game
itself is not self-voicing, so you need a screenreader to play it.
 We have tested it with
Window-Eyes and JAWS and it works properly. If not, feel free to
ask, and we will see what we can do in the code to solve problems.

It is a demo game, allowing you to play the first four years and
limiting some cassino games. The game is 10 Euros, that's about £8
 GBP.
I have downloaded the game and am very happy with it, I purchased it
 after an hour of playing.
 Thanks.

we will see what we can do in the code to solve problems.

It is a demo game, allowing you to play the first four years and limiting
some cassino games. The game is 10 Euros, that's about £8 GBP.
I have downloaded the game and am very happy with it, I purchased it after
 an hour of playing.
 Thanks.

 Damien

Hi Damien,
The first release of the english version was in 2006, before that we have
released the game only in germany. But, I don't know why, I have told
the guys of Audiogames to update the links, but they have'nt updated
them till now!
So the game is'nt really new, but still good. ;-)
Have a nice day!
Marco

 Hi gamers,
For those of you who don't know or haven't yet seen the BCT podcast, a new
 accessible game has been released.
It is called Mississippi, from http://www.mar-dy.com.
Here is the description straight from the site:

Mississippi - a trading simulation for all adventurers

Mississippi is a trading simulation which starts in 1770 in the wild west of
 good old America.
One day you receive a letter, that your uncle who's living in America has
died and bequeaths you his whole properties. That means 50 square meters of
 stockroom,
1000 $ and 50 grain. The letter tells you also, that you are born in
America, but your Mother where gone back shortly after you where born.
After reading the letter you decide to jump at this chance. You leave your
old home and emigrate to the new world.
You have to buy and sell your goods, build kontors in several towns, build
wagons, and earn money. And, if you are good enough, be at least president of
America. But, as in real live, there are good and bad news, some for
yourself, some for all players. E.g. you can win a lot of money, or all your
 wagons
could not leave your HQ and so you won't get goods for this round.

You can play the game with 5 persons. And, that's a very interesting fact,
you can play it with sighted people together.

There is much music, and most of the news are spoken. The game itself is not
self-voicing, so you need a screenreader to play it. We have tested it with
Window-Eyes and JAWS and it works properly. If not, feel free to ask, and we
will see what we can do in the code to solve problems.

[Audyssey] Mississippi is back

2008-03-28 Thread Marco Steinebach - Mardy
Hi Listers,
After we have to work on tow other projects for more than a year, we
now are back! ;-)

Mississippi comes up with the new Version 1.30.
Here's the Update-log:
What's new in version 1.30

we have corrected some spelling errors.

The installation-file has been changed. If there are just textual
updates in the future, you won't need to download the whole 35 mb file,
but a little file, around 1 mb.

the first entry in High and Low is now automatically selected.

We have changed the headerlist, which informs you about dollar, stock room
and so on. It should be more readable now.

The program settings have been moved from the windows registry to an
ini-file, because some PC's have problems with the rights on writing to the
registry. But every user on the same computer can have different settings.

You can download the Version V1.30 from our Website:
http://www.odissa.de/en
The old adress
http://www.mar-dy.com
is still working.

The price for the Update is $ 500, ;-), no! it's free of course! ;-)
Old registration-codes work with this version too.

Your feedback is very wellcome!

Best regards from germany and a nice day!
Marco
