Hi Tom.

I might do that, sinse from what I've seen twitter is easier to do that with
than facebook, where even really great authors seem to post lots of personal
rubbish.

Re: [Audyssey] Twitter instead of e-mail

2011-08-06 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,

Well, like I said before it all comes down to how we choose to use the
technology. If you subscribe to only professional news feeds you'll
find you won't have a bunch of junk. If you choose to add someone's
personal feed then you get whatever he or she wants to post, and you
are right. A lot of the personal feeds are sadly about stupid stuff
like what someone ate for breakfast or something else equally
uninteresting.

Truth be told, that's one reason I myself don't use Facebook and
Twitter so much these days. When I signed up, got an account, and
began getting personal news from my friends and family I discovered
most of it was pretty ordinary stuff that I didn't really have much
interest in reading. One of my former girl friends from high school,
for example, only wanted to post stuff on how last nights prayer
meeting went, or that she got her hair redone at the beautitions and
would anyone comment on her new photo. In between those comments there
were messages like "I just woke up and will be on all day" or "I've
got to drop the kids off at school and I'll be back in about an hour."
Although, I like said person reading her posts got to be very dull and
boring because what she had to say was of very little interest to me
personally. So you do get a lot of that from ordinary people on
Facebook and Twitter. The solution is to simply remove them from your
account and keep only the people or companies that post news worthy or
interesting posts.

Cheers!

Hi Folks,
There was a news story this week that many students and those in their
twenties are dropping e-mail accounts for twitter and facebook.
In Checking L-works it seems that development on Super Egg Hunt Plus news

It looks like I'll have to get a twitter account to follow new game

Re: [Audyssey] Twitter instead of e-mail

2011-08-05 Thread Dallas O'Brien
hi, twitter is far more then a social networking and communications
network. if anything, i would say thats what a lot of people make it,
and send out pointless tweets. but, its a huge source of instant news,
and communications around the world. for example. i get breaking news
on twitter, sometimes hours ahead of anybody else.
and yes, a lot of companies are using it, for several perpuses. one is
as a quick info release format, where it can penitrate a huge area.
lets say i get an update about a game that i think looks good. i can
retweet it, {forward it for those that don't use twitter}, and then a
mate of mine who has me on his list says, wow, that looks good. so he
retweets it on, then 5 friends of his do the same.
you can see where a company can hit a much grater possible userbase this way.
also, companies are using twitter, to get there users feedback to
ideas, and get sigestions as to what the users want in a product. so a
games company might say, tell me what you think of us including a key
to check how much health you have.
these are just examples, but thats where the power is.
and as has been stated, you only need follow those accounts that
interest you. its a microblogging site, and some will use it to
communicate stupid things, and some, like me, for the most part, do
not, and just use it as an instant communication between companies,
users, and news sources, and so on.
hope this outline of how i use twitter helps.
best regards
dallas

Hi Tom.

that's very true when it comes to wrestling or a given company, but it often
seems a lot of individuals, even those who do interesting stuff otherwise do
put a lot of rubbish on their feeds.

i for instance know several authors of great podcast fiction which I
regularly download and listen to, but if you read their blogs, only about a
quarter is related to their books and other work, and from what I've heard
twitter feeds are worse.

As I said, okay if your really social and sort of generally interested in
someone's everyday life, but to be brutally honest not me.

Then there are the follow and friend fanatics, people who just seem to spend
most of their time trying to get millions and millions of friends or

i may well have to look into twitter if more companies go for it, though i
probably will use it only in a limited way even then.

Hi Ron,

Oh, I doubt that. Not everyone is a fan of Twitter, Facebook, etc. It
is just another means of communication, and mainly made popular by
younger people. There still are millions of people using forums,,
blogs, e-mail, etc and I think it will all balance out in the end. It
just means both groups will have to be able to use either one as
needed.

Re: [Audyssey] Twitter instead of e-mail

2011-08-05 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,

Well, With Facebook or Twitter what you get all depends on the feeds
and the people you add to your account. For example, if I want to know
what is happening on WWE Monday Night Raw I just go to the Raw Twitter
feed and there will be news and information that wouldn't necessarily
be on the WWE website, but is certainly of interest to me since I like
wrestling. Its also a bit more interesting than what Joe Smith ate for
breakfast.

However, if you go to Joe Smith's feed you might find his content very
boring like "Hey, y'all I'm on the train right now," or something
llike, "I just finished my eggs and bacon and will be heading to work
in five." Such feeds are annoying, a bit too social for my liking, but
I can selectively not read Joe Smith's feeds if I don't want to. There
is nothing saying I have to add Joe Smith's feed to Qwitter and read
his day to day messages about what he ate or what size dump he takes
in the morning. :D

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Twitter instead of e-mail

2011-08-05 Thread Che
yes, twitter is an amazing way to keep track of multiple subjects,
not just people.
I thought it was all just a way to let folks know what you just ate
for breakfast myself but after using it for a while now, I gotta say,
its pretty amazing, and I wouldn't think of not having it now,
especially with the brilliant accessible interface of qwitter.
I've been sending out updates and tournament info for the card room
for a while on twitter, the feed is:

BACardRoom
if your using qwitter, just control windows l, then put that in, and
your subscribed to the feed, nothing to it.
and i cannot reccomend qwitter highly enough, don't have URL here,
but look up

qwitter client
in google and you'll find it.

at least with E-mail you can insure that what someone is sending is
relatively important, rather than just something like "I'm on the train!"

I might have to look into twitter myself though if this goes on, though
I think I'm a litle too antisocial to want to use it much myself ;D.

Oh, and I am! a person in my twenties ;D.

Hi Folks,
There was a news story this week that many students and those in their
twenties are dropping e-mail accounts for twitter and facebook.
In Checking L-works it seems that development on Super Egg Hunt Plus
news is only on his twitter feed.
It looks like I'll have to get a twitter account to follow new game
development from now on.
Here is L-works twitter feed:

I'll go as far as Facebook (in fact I have one), but I absolutely refuse to
use Twitter.
