Re: [Audyssey] Asteroids was Missile Command
That's exactly what I'm saying. It had a great deal of potential if only it had been better handled. But even if it had been the manual wasn't exactly up to date, so there was another problem right there. And now if you go over to their forums you find they've become nothing more than a den of spam bots and things like that. Homer: Hey, uh, could you go across the street and get me a slice of pizza? It would have been nice to be able to whip up a quick copy of Frogs and Flies, Adventure, whatever using a tool like that, but being a student project it had no commercial funding or dedicated people to maintain it. They didn't even release it as open source so the community could have updated it ourselves. So it was pretty much a big waste of time and energy downloading it. Too bad because it actually did have a good design concept, and initially sounded very promising. It had potential certainly, I'm not arguing that, but the bugs that were left unsquashed made it all but impossible to get the most out of the program. And it didn't help that the program was a student project for a gaming class and once the semester was over the project was pretty much scrapped once there was something for us to download. Needless to say though I did attempt to create both Frogs and Flies and Adventure, with a very few relatively modern touches thrown in (namely a few additional enemies and hazzards), I was able to get neither the dragons nor the frogs, flies and crocodiles to behave properly. Heck, I couldn't even make the player behave properly. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. That would be awsome!!! Yeah, I just wish that also swoop could be found and made playable, think space invaders, but with guns you can pick up, and different shields and stuff. I got tuns of weapons actually, and in the later levels you have to fight these giant spiders. - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward thomasward1...@gmail.com To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Thursday, December 24, 2009 8:59 AM Subject: [Audyssey] Asteroids was Missile Command Hi Brice, Yeah, I'd like to see a good Asteroids clone myself. I started work on one a couple of years back, but Raceway and mysteries of the Ancients got in the way. So I haven't yet had time to get back to work on my own version of Asteroids. Although, it is still something I'd be interested in completing. Especially, now that I am creating a 3d game engine I could actually make a much cooler version of Asteroids than I had originally planned on creating. Instead of a simple 2d arcade game as I had thought of doing I could go full 3d having asteroids above and below the player as well as all around the player's ship. The alien ships could also attack from any angle making it a much more interesting space game than the original Asteroids. Cheers! Hi Brice, Interesting. Sounds cool, but I've never actually played that game before. Brice wrote: That would be awsome!!!
