Re: [Audyssey] MY complaints about L-works games
Hi Michael, Sure. Your position is quite understandable. You purchased the game or games and deserve a replacement key or keys in a timely manner, and I can not fault you for that. A lot of developers have a three day policy excluding weekends and holidays of course. That way if a request comes in on Monday Morning the key will be there by Wednesday latest. While not extremely fast service having some sort of policy like that in place would eliminate the situation we are having now where it takes months to have a key replaced, and if the customer knows what time to expect his/her key they won't be bugging the developer every hour for their keys. I want my stuff in a reasonable ammount of time say 5-10 business days. a lot of stuff is ready in 2 but 5 or 10 days is for an average package and though steep I'd still accept that I know its not easy for 1 person which is why I volinteered assistance since I think it may be needed in this case. And when I put the message a couple days ago about what could happen its only a scenario that I want to avoid and have the community avoid. I ask for little in return and would even help even if I didn't get what I asked for. Hi Sky, Wow! You must have more patients then I then. I wouldn't wait two years for a key, but I would give a developer at least a week to get back to me before I started filing a complaint. However, knowing this community as I do some people cant wait even a week expecting it to show up the same day they make the request which is sometimes unrealistic with a one or two man operation. Lori, not intending this note personally at all, :) but as a commentary on the view people have about Audio Game Companies. Firstly, as has been said before, many of these companies are individuals or groups of 2, 3 or sometimes only a few more people who are doing this more out of a labor of love than desire for money. Again, as has been said, there's really, essentially no money in making audio games for this community. It just isn't a sustainable business model unless devs offer other services as well, and even then, not by much. The fact that Liam's time is taken up with a real job should give people a clue that he's not getting rich off of any of us. Yes? ;) so to create the impression that these game companies don't care about poor blind people is maybe not the best way to go about this. :) Know what I mean? If people are feeling unimportant, then it's our responsibility as a community to bring ourselves to a place where we can contribute more to our own developers so that we become more important. You pay for time, so if you want more time, contribute more of what you can. That could be cash, it could be your own time. The point is; give something to get something. Make sense? :) Then you'll be seen as important to others… Anyway, as I said, nothing personal is meant by this at all. I understand how this may seem like devs don't care but it's usually that they can't keep up because of real-life commitments which actually do pay them so they can support themselves and perhaps their own as well. Re: [Audyssey] MY complaints about L-works games
Cara, Thanks for that well worded message. I had basically the same idea earlier when I read Lori's message, but really couldn't think of a diplomatic way to say it like you have. I know from personal experience a lot of blind gamers believe or expect that we developers are there to serve their every whim, jump when they shout jump, and when we have other real life commitments like work, a family, or are simply dealing with an illness they think we don't care about them or their money. As you said none of us are getting rich creating games, do it as a labor of love, but have real life commitments that must come first. Its very disheartening when someone on this list or elsewhere starts beating the drums and basically treat developer x as though he or she is ripping them off or that they have no other commitments to deal with. Usually the lack of attention is due in large part to some other commitment like work or a family, and I for one wish the community could be more understanding about that. Re: [Audyssey] MY complaints about L-works games
Hopefully, you'll reconsider. A lot of us realize that you've gotta pay the light bill, among others. Game production isn't steady income. Your other job is, and full time is exactly that. Some people don't realize just what it means. Then, you also have a family life. That doesn't leave much time for doing what you like doing in the way of recreation, and then these rotten apples expect you to get them what they want, when they want it, regardless of your prior commitments. If you don't pay the bills, they most certainly will not get games or registration keys, because batteries don't last forever. I, for one, have found your customer service and your games to be very satisfactory, and if I don't immediately get a key, I know why, but I also know that I will get it. Sometimes, Emails get backed up, too, so you might not find the request for a while. Your mind may also be on other things. I understand where Liam is coming from, but what about those people who have mentioned on list that they have waited and waited for keys to games that they have ordered? Re: [Audyssey] MY complaints about L-works games
Liam the main issue is that with all your email problems, none of us knows what email address is working or if you even recieve mail. lets see you have your liam address at liamerven.com, gmail.com, l-works, then the sales and support addresses for l-works. We don't know if our messages are even recieved man. And yet again I will stress this on list. I am willing to help with requests for replacement keys to take the heat off you. You are a great guy and all but if for whatever reason your tech is just giving you issues and you can't solve them even with your gmail, then maybe its time to get some assistance. I am happy to do this without pay of any kind, well I guess maybe a coppy of all your games but even then its not like I don't have superliam and judgement day. And even if that were not the case I want to help. I have seen you on the random streams, spoke to you on msn, even shared bits with you in early 2002 and so on. I was round listening to you in 2001. I know you are busy thats why I am a lot of us are giving you the slack we are and not getting up on you like a bunch of cards. I can understand not getting a key for ages and ages because you are busy, but the email issue well I have no idea what gets through or what. And its not like I ask much in return either. Just to have picks on testing new titles for windows and maybe a coppy of games for myself if you wanted to really pay me. Seriously I don't need any cash or anything. Hi Steve, Well, before we resort to that let's see if we can't resolve those issues peacefully without bringing Paypal etc into the mix. Re: [Audyssey] MY complaints about L-works games
Hi, Don't feel bad, I too have had problems contacting Liam. A few months ago, I sent an email to one of the L-Works addresses asking for another key for Judgment Day to play it on another computer. I never got a reply back, but thought I'd wait since I knew he was busy. Finally, a couple weeks ago, I wrote to him via the L-Works Twitter feed asking how to get another product key, but haven't received a response that way either. All I'm going to say is that I personally think there should be something better implemented for situations like this. Thanks. Re: [Audyssey] MY complaints about L-works games
I aggree. I have a couple computers one new and the other just after a format. I was going to buy more of his stuff but to be honest am not sure, he is a good programmer granted but whatever is going on with the reg key system is just really terrible. I waited 6 months for the last key and its longer than that. Granted he is busy and granted that his email addresses don't always work but this really can't go on. he used to be able to keep up. He either needs some key system or someone that could generate keys for those that buy his stuff to help him. I'd do it for nothing. He may be a good developer but his excuses even though there are probably lagit reasons for all will not last. I think most are leanient with him for now but how long will people actually wait I wander. His reputation is quite good, and for now its wandering. However the wandering will become asking is going to that phase. And then in a few months to a year or so complaining, flaming, shouting and before you know he is out totally. I am a patient person but I am asking and wandering. we all know his situation which helps but even then there will come a time where people will not trust, its happening with some allready on list though he still has support. I knew liam before he was a game dev, when he broadcasted on radio and streaming net video. Most of my trust comes from those times he is actually quite a cool guy so maybe I am in a better position than others. One thing I'll say though was that in those years liam was quite random. true he uploaded shows on a regular basis but never always announced them. He would appear at some odd hour of the day or night and broadcast. I would always be going between bed or something then get hooked on the cast. Even so, this whatever it is is not sustainable and I think some of us know that. It would be nice if things could get sorted out not just now but for ever. Liam is obviously busy, and his email or something on his end is not relyable though gmail usually is since I use it right now. I guess if you don't have time to check the spam you could miss things but even then. on that note how do you contact someone by using twitter. Actually Liam does replace keys. But for some reason people are having trouble getting through to him. There's a difference. Wit Draconis it's a matter of policy.
