Sorry if this is a repost, it seems to have disappeared into the bit bucket. I put a 3Com 3C996B-T 1000Mbps NIC in my system. It uses the tg3 (broadcom) driver, which I have compiled in. The kernel messages show the link at 1000. The light on the NIC shows this. The lights on the switch show
