Hi,
the answer is: never, because not GIMP is bound in no way to X11, but to the
GTK. A stable GTK is unfortunately for Apples OS X only for an X11 backend
available right now. But may be you can help the GTK project to finish their
work on a native backend for OS X and help this to free GIMP
Thanks for helping me
The problem is that I am not a computer expert just a Mac user that
can not copy images from another program to GIMP. But yes... I will
be glad in helping the GTK project. I just do not know how.

It's me again. Don't want to be boring...
OpenOffice was also runing on Mac under X11 but a group of computer
geeks made NeoOffice. It is exactly a OOo but free from X11. Isn't it
possible to do the same with GIMP. Sorry if this is a very stupid
questions, but as I've said I am not a

So far as I can tell from looking at online help and experimentation

I've turned off anti-aliasing in the tool options for all the selection

No doubt that X11 is better then nothing. But GIMP deserves better
then X11. Don't you think so?

I don't really see what the problem is with using X11.app (other than
GIMP for Mac is a version or two behind).

Anthony,
Thank you for your response.
How can I get keyboard access to the pan tool?
View--Navigate Window
opens up a dialog box, in which you can use your arrow keys to pan
around.
That does allow one to move around an image, but it's not the same as
having a keyboard shortcut. It
The development version uses space for panning. It will be in 2.4 release.

I would hate anyone to think that you can't use GIMP on Mac/X11... I do
it every day without significant problems.
It's a linux-like environment so it feels slightly different. That's
all. No sweat.

I know I am a pain in the... you know where but...
There is a (very) simplified imitation of GIMP that do not use X11.

Yeah, AFAIK this is a one man project that uses some GIMP implementations
(libraries) and wrapps them within his own application.
It looks like an interesting approach, but somehow I doubt that this is what
the future of GIMP looks like. GIMP is not designed to be Paint for *ix

P.S: not you are the pain, but X11 is to a certain degree on OS X...
Well, if there would be some OS X users who'd try to build GTK+ without the X11
dependency (see http://developer.imendio.com/projects/gtk-macosx) and then did

Hi Michael,
actually I'm not building against SVN, but to each and every official
release. I don't think that it makes any sense if a regular user is
trying to build GIMP unstable to the GTK/OS X pre alpha.
I'd love to provide my Mac for some
Actually I noticed a yellow cursor when GIMP is running. But I didn't
