Re: [Gimp-user] [OT] Some other app (was: gimp in one window)
Hi, Mike Meyer [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Neither window managers nor applications have any FSCKING business screwing with window depth. If some such change gets made to the GIMP, I certainly hope it's optional. I think you misunderstood what we are talking about here. Of course it is the job of the window manager to deal with the z-order of windows. After all it is a window manager. So if an application gives the window manager the hint that a certain window should be treated special (for example kept above another window or even above all windows of the same application), then the window manager should respect that hint. Of course the user can still configure his/her window manager to ignore those hints or he/she could install a window manager that ignores those hints by default. But it is certainly the window managers business. Some people seem to argue though that the application should try to force a certain behaviour on the window manager. That is definitely not a good idea. The application should give the window manager enough information to do a good job but it should let the window manager manage the windows. BTW, the changes that you refer to have all been made already. Due to the fact that the interpretation of the spec varies between window managers, we have added some preference options to control what hints are set. I would prefer though if the EWMH spec would have a window type that would fit for the GIMP toolbox and dock windows. At the moment there's UTILITY which comes closest. But have a look yourself: http://www.freedesktop.org/standards/wm-spec/wm-spec-1.2.html#id2503768 It may make sense to make the dock windows transient for the toolbox. Would probably be worth a try. [Gimp-user] Gimp 2.1.4 filepicker
I tried to build 2.1.4 and kind of succeeded, but it couldn't open files. I could barely start it, actually. THere was dozens of error messages during startup from the local dir about libgimpwidgets-2.0-104 couldn't be located. And even with a full install that's right: It's not on disk. Nor did the installation routine relink gimp to the new binary. I finally gave up and deleted the whole thing - it could only open xfc files, no plugins worked, and the filepicker has become an unusable mess... What on earth happened to the it? I can't use it anymore :((( There is nowhere to paste in the URLs (filepath/name). I used to browse my galleries in mozilla, and then paste the url/filepath+name into the gimp filepicker. Now I instead have to click myself dizzy to get anywhere. I can't figure out where i can paste/write in the new filepicker. And to complicate things further: There is no indication what is folders and what is files when i run under KDE. I tested it under Gnome too: There I can see icons at least. But I can't use Gnome for other reasons. I guess it all means that the Gimp has changed from a Gtk app to a Gnome app. This is very sad as it means 2.1.* is made extremely hard to use under KDE. PLEASE change the filepicker back to the old one?! Unhappy Gimp-user R.K.Aa. ___ Gimp-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.xcf.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user

You are aware that 2.1.4 is a development version, and the README has words to the effect All hell may break loose when installing this program? Did you build it in a different prefix to your Gimp-2.0.4. If you didn't, then for sure all hell will break loose. [Gimp-user] adding fonts to the gimp
Hi everyone, I'm having some difficulty adding fonts to the GIMP. I'm using GIMP version 2.0.4 and the fonts that I want to add were originally MAC fonts. They were converted to .afm and .pfa. These fonts show up when I use an application like OpenOffice but they do not appear in my font list in the GIMP. Is there anything special I need to do to add these fonts to the gimp? Looks like I solved my own problem. I seem to recall I restarted the GIMP and the fonts didn't show up. I just hit the refresh to default values button in the font tool dialog and oddly enough, the fonts now appear. ___ Gimp-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.xcf.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user

New method? Optional setting? It reminds me of the same app in MacOS (where I always found it as a bunch of windows), but it is the first time I see that in MSWindows version. If I understand your comments correctly you seem to think that this version of Adobe Photoshop is somehow differnt because the windows appear to be seperate. What this screenshot shows is not anything different from what photoshop has been in the past, however it does look a little different because the main window has been resized (the toolbox and palettes have stayed where they normally are, only now they happen to fall outside the main window) and the image window is maximized to fit the main window but it is still a window inside a window (note the min/max/close window icons barely visible on the top right). It is difficult to describe it clearly but this layout of photoshop is nothing new, it is more optional settings as you said.
