[Gimp-user] Re: drawing arrows with GFXMuse Tools

2005-11-30 Thread sunita
Dear Michael,

I install version Muse tool 2.0, as the machine has GIMP 1.2. I installed
it as root. It didn't give any problem.

In the last step of installation that is during
make install ; bin-d is created but no executable files in it.

I suppose to transfer the executable files from bin-d folder to
/home/sunita/.gimp-1.2/plug-ins. But there is no executable inside bin-d.

What should I do??

I am putting the output of 'make install' command so that it will be
easier for you to findout the mistake.

First off, this is a *really* old version of the tools - see the web
 site:
 http://www.ximba.org/gfxmuse/download.html

If you're using GIMP 1.2 then you need the old version 2.0. If you're
using GIMP 2.2 or later you need the beta version (which should work
 just fine) - 3.0.0B2.

I'm not sure what the problem is, but grab the new versions and try
again. If it dstill doesn't work then email me and I'll see if I can
 help you get it compiled.

Gotta run - I'm late for a meeting at work.

I do not have frontpage, but I tried with Word.
To copy/paste successfully from Gimp to word, try to use Edit-Copy to
clipboard instead of Edit-Copy.

Shouldn't be needed with a recent GTK+ (thus recent version of GIMP
don't include this plug-in). But see yourself, this already shows that
we don't know what went wrong.

I have GTK 2.8.6 installed, and copy/paste from gimp to word still
requires the copy to clipboard function.

Hi,

You can move the points, so by moving one onto one of its neighbours
will have the same effect as deleting it.

I think you should try using the bezier selection tool instead. There,
you have move freedom to move, add or delete points.

[Gimp-user] Distorted Text

2005-11-30 Thread Michael B Allen
Is there any way to make the text tool in Gimp display the text as it will
appear in an image. Currently I'm finding that text is distorted but in the
output image it looks ok. Is this normal?

Example: http://www.ioplex.com/~miallen/gimp/

Is there a forum for only Mac/Gimp users?

Yep, at least for Word 2003... strange, used to work in Word 2000, and
works fine in the current versions of Excel and Powerpoint. Maybe a bug
in the Office Clipboard?

I do find it is noticably slower than on linux at the same clock speeds

It's not a GUI slowdown that I'm talking about --- it's ops like doing an unsharp mask..

I did some comparisons a while back between linux on an athlon 1800+
(1.5 ghz), and macosx on an 800mhz g4, and for an 8 megapixel image,
linux was taking 18s to do the unsharp mask, and the mac was taking 75s
--- much slower than the relative clock speeds. For comparison,
Photoshop takes about 5s to do the unsharp mask on the mac.

It does make it pretty painful to use. I was actually
contemplating buying photoshop - but I've been using the gimp for so
long I don't want to switch

I was going to fire up a profiler and see what's happening - but the
last time I tried I couldn't get the gimp to compile through fink...

I assume that the code isn't using X to do the actual bitmap
manipulations, so I doubt the native gtk+ implemenation will help me
here. It'll still be nice though... :-)

Probably you're not flattening the image. I suggest that you flatten
the image after adding the text and only _then_ distort the image.

Warren,
Ever thought about installing a native Linux install with your Mac? I'm
guessing you will see quite a difference running Gimp in Linux on that
PPC! There are several available now and SuSE has started it's new 10
on PPC as well. If you have the hard drive space, I think it would be
worth your time.

Thanks, it is good to know that it runs on the latest OS ok?! I think. I was in
the middle of redoing my business
card, when I added a clean OS 10.4 on an external hard-drive then things went
haywire, needless to say I never
did finish or print any cards and it still in Gimp format. The funny part of it
is both versions of latest GIMP on the
new OS 10.4 and the older GIMP on OS 10.28 (on separate hard-drives) does the
same crash and I can not figure
what is going on. Almost like a virus is involved, but nothing else is
affected. I am not a computer wiz, but can
not find the problem.

I like OS 10.4 but want to defiantly want Linux and was thinking Suze or Debian
(or version of). I could not/did
not want to do it before, because Apple foolishly do not partition the drive
when they sell you the computer. Bad
Apple.
