I was looking at the patterns that come with the GIMP.
They might have been nice for 320x240 web images that everyone edited
a few years ago.
But in a world of 7 MP cameras, all patterns that come with the GIMP
are nearly useless.

Say I have two images of the same size (9952×7016) open. I select an
arbitrary region from the first image and Edit-Copy it. Then I switch to
the second image and Edit-Paste. Unfortunately, GIMP seems to put the
selection wherever it wants; I would rather it appear in the exact same

I'm trying to create a web page background and apply a glossy effect
to it, similar to flat versus glossy paint. I haven't found a way to do
this and a search of google didn't yield any help.
Is there a way to do this?
