[Gimp-user] problem with gimp 2.3 for windows

2007-03-19 Thread Roger D Vargas
I know that problems with 2.3 shouldnt be reported here, but I have used
2.3.7 under windows for a long time without finding a bug (I do rather
simple works). But 2.3.7 installer now says it is outdated and the last
2 releases give me a weird problem: when loading scripts I got an error
about libgimpui-2.0.0.0.dll cant be loaded. Can somebody give me an idea
about whats happening?

Can somebody give me an idea about whats happening?

Known problem, see bug #404691 comment #10:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=404691#c10

BTW, it's a good idea for anyone who is testing the 2.3 releases to watch the
[EMAIL PROTECTED] user in Bugzilla
(create an account and then go to
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email and enter that address into
the users to watch field).

This way you won't miss any bugs reported against GIMP.

[Gimp-user] macgimp: no full-screen mode?

2007-03-19 Thread Christine Sommerfeldt

Hi there,

I switched from linux to mac, happy that I could continue using the
gimp.

I wonder why I can't use the full-screen mode in macgimp. Whenever I
select it, a hook is shown in the full-sreen menu, but the image
window stays as it was.

Has this problem ever occurred?

I'm a photographer using gimp 2.2.11 (Universal) on an intel-mac.

Thanks for your reply,

Christine

[Gimp-user] Vertical gradients

2007-03-19 Thread Andrew Scott
Hello,

I am new to the list and would consider myself a rank beginner. I am using GIMP
2.2.11 on Linux, Ubuntu Dapper 6.06.

The photo I am procesing has rather bright sky / highlights towards the top,
and I would like to de-emphasise them.

Question: how do I apply a grey or neutral filter with a vertical gradient to
the photograph? And how can this gradient be adjusted to suit? I checked the
web site and documentation, but my time-limited search did not come up with
anything.

Many thanks in advance,
Andrew

[Gimp-user] Brush Pressure

2007-03-19 Thread Raeth
Greetings,

I'm running Ubuntu 7.04 (though I had the same problem on 6.10) on a
PC with 1024 MB of RAM and AMD 64 3200+.

I have a Graphire 4, which seems to be set up correctly and I get
pressure sensivity in GIMP, mypaint and the wonderful tablet app from
http://alexmac.cc/tablet-apps/

I have a linear pressure curve set in xorg.conf, represented by a
straight, diagonal curve in the tablet app. Therefore, if I select a
brush with the opacity or size I expect it to be at lowest
opacity/size when I press down lightly, and at maximum opacity/size
when I push down hardest.

GIMP (2.2 and 2.3) does in fact max out opacity and size at only 50%
possible pressure! This is contrary to mypaint and the tablet apps
(Linux) and opencanvas (Windows). I can accurately tell this by
positioning the canvas next to Tablet Apps' pressure gauge, which hits
50% pressure when GIMP's brush maxes out on opacity/size.

Here's a graphical representation of what's going on:

http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h243/Sliskerm/pressure.png

Does anyone know what is going on? Does anyone else get this problem?

Thanks,
Raeth

Hi Andrew -
pick the gradient tool (blend tool), assure your self it is blending
in linear mode, from black to white (i.e. the default parameters -
witht he default gradient (fg to bg) and default colors (B W) ) -
test to make sure, you can always undo it.

Then, turn on the quick mask mode - jsut click on teh small sqaure
to the left of the horziontal scroll bar on the window.
The image iwll be covered by a translucent red tint ,w hich is an
indication of the (un)selected areas.
While on quick-mask mode, all paint operations work on the selection,
instead of the image. That means you can amek aselection that will
let changes to the image happen with varying strenght, according to
the gray-level used on the quick mask.

So, witht he quick mask on, make your gradient, turn off the quick
mask. You should see an horizontal selection mark close to the middle
of the image - this mark is always where teh selection has half
strenght. (turn it off in the view menu if you prefer).
Apply your filter now.

If the result is not good, undo a few steps, and apply
layer-colors-curves on the quickmask, after you apply your
gradient, to tune the result.

Yeah, the problem is known from some window managers from linux as well.

The problem is, that some window managers do not respect the
fullscreen flag as specified in the freedesktop EWMH specification.
Gimp just toggles the flag Hey, window manager, please make this window
full screen.. Unfortunately some window managers - apparently the mac
GUI as well - don't recognize this flag and ignore it, the window stays
in its current position.

The Gimp cannot make the window fullscreen itself, since different
window managers might have different ideas of what fullscreen actually
means (does the window cover the panels? Stretched across multiple
screens?) and intentionally leaves it to the window manager.
Unfortunately this means, that on some platforms fullscreen does not
work - sorry.

Bye,
Simon
