This list normally uses the english language! I don't speak Dutch
or Flemish, but in google translate this is apparently
"Good morning,

can you also completely scale photos in a folder?"

If you can open the photo in gimp, you can scale it (the individual
photo, and be careful where you export it - you might, or might not,
want to overwrite the original).

1. 'export' because 'Save' and 'Save As' only save gimp's own xcf
format. The export command will let you type the required suffix for
the filename (for me it always defaults to .png' on first use) and
works well for jpeg and png files, probably also works for some
other formats

2. Some photo formats might not be supported, e.g. the current apple
format (heic) might not be supported in older versions of gimp, or
might require dependencies which were not provided when your version
was built. I'm currently running 2.10.30, that supports it but I
recall I had to add various dependencies after someone sent a heic
photo to a mailing list.

3. Raw photos need a plugin which probably doesn't support all
current camera raw formats.

4. If what you want is to produce smaller jpegs, pngs, etc then it's
probably easier to use 'mogrify' from ImageMagick.

Use select by colour, and set the threshold you want. The threshold is
remembered until you close gimp, or, if you have the "save tool options
on exit" preference enabled, it's also remembered between sessions.

If you want a more precise control over the range, you could duplicate
the layer, use colours/map/rotate colours to map them all to white
(say) and then select by colour or region, then delete the temporary
layer.

It depends what you're trying to do - you are asking for help with a
particular solution or approach rather than asking the best way to
solve a particular image editing problem.

You can use the crop tool, choose "fixed aspect ratio" and enter 4:3/

Aalternately you can use the menu item image→scale image:
enter two numbers that are in that ratio, to squish or stretch your
image so it fits.

You can get GIMP to do the calculation for you with scale image, too:
if your image is 3019 x 2807 pixels in size, leave the width as 3019,
and change the height to
3019 * 3/4
Or, leave the width at 2807 and change the height to
2807 * 4/3
Then press tab and gimp will work out the numbers.

Answer: not by scaling. If you don't scale horizontally and vertically
by the same factor, the image will be distorted. To giver you image a
4:3 ratio; you either have to cut one dimension or to add space in the
other.

A Crop tool option lets you constrain the aspect-ratio of what you crop,
and another will also let you extend the image by cropping (call it
reverse-crop). This latter action will create empty space that you have
to fill somehow.

Hi,

So I have a Wacom Bamboo tablet and pen (have owned these for ages), and it
says on the box that it has pressure sensitivity to it too. Problem is, no
matter what I try the pressure sensitivity will not activate. Also, under
'Input Devices' there are 3 possibilities:
1 Core Pointer
2 Wacom Tablet Eraser
3 Wacom Tablet Pressure Stylus

Nr 1 is in white / active but both the others are greyed out.
Sadly I'm not technical at all :S but: does the greyed out mean this is why
the pressure sensitivity doesn't work? Or is there something else going on?
I use Gimp 2.10 on Windows.

This has been an issue for me for a loong time and it's driving me nuts
lol :P as I really wanna get into digital art.

In advance - thanks for your help ^^

written by a lawyer (Dr. Charles Goldfarb).

I think it was written by https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Stallman who is
not a lawyer AFAIK, but it reflects the values of
https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html.en and of the
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_General_Public_License which they publish and
under which GIMP is covered. I can sell people a copy of the source code of
GPLed software possibly along with some binaries for as much as I want
(including for millions of USD) as long as I do not violate any other laws.
Some people may opt to buy FOSS on digital media, and it is perfectly legal
under such conditions.

You must have a layer left over which isn't really part of the animation
('Background' or else). When you export a GIF animation, all layers are
included, even those that are not visible.

2017-01-28 Thread Paula Koval
Good Saturday or Sunday, as it may be! Thank you, Ofnuts, for reminding me
about taking the image from disk. Duh!

You gave me the link to an excellent tutorial on YouTube that taught me the
title page process but the video is no longer available, or so says YouTube.

I have looked at three other tutorials on YouTube for placing text on top
of a gif image. All of them move too fast for me. I cannot understand how
they get the image to break into its layers on the right-hand side of the
Gimp work area. Not knowing that or how to change the size of the layer
images to "gigantic," as advised by one tutorial, I find it harder to
access that knowledge.

Please point me in a useful direction.

Many thanks and have a pleasant Sunday!

2017-01-27 Thread Paula Koval
Hello, All! I am a casual user of Gimp and I was trying to re-learn how to
put a text layer on top of a gif image.

I found a gif image to use for practice and I copied its URL to use to
Create Image From Webpage. I did that because I figured that the gif image
would lose its motion if I tried to copy it to clipboard and then to Gimp.

So I entered the gif image URL into its proper place and this is the error
message that I got: TLS/SSL support not available; install glib-networking

I made a Google inquiry for Install Glib Networking and I found things that
I do not understand. I do not know how to open the files that I found to
get to the Install program, so I am asking for help with this. Please tell
me how to install Glib Networking.

I have another issue with Gimp. This evening I deleted my existing copy of
Gimp and downloaded and installed the entire Gimp suite from the Gimp site
so I could have a clean copy of the latest revision. I followed directions
to install it.

When I opened the Gimp program, I got an error message that there is a
missing file. This is the error message: The procedure entry point
g_get_home_dir_utf8 could not be located in the dynamic link library
C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\gap_decode_mplayer.exe Is
this a fatal error? Do I need to fix it? Please tell me what the fix is.

Any help that you can share with me is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Paula

What exactly do you need to accomplish?

There's a picture of a canvas on that Web page, which has been shot at
an angle (or has had a perspective filter applied).

There's an Etsy logo. There's a Geezees logo, there's a shiny add to
cat button. There's a photo of a wedding couple kissing under a light,
with what looks like an overly harsh drop shadow applied (the light
didn't affect the light fixture, nor the light switches, or I'd say it
was from a fill-in light some way to the left of the camera.

The text is probably in Zapf Chancery Medium italic (and uses an ASCII
apostrophe ' rather than a single quote ’).

The text has been partly masked out to make it look as if it's behind
the couple. You can do that with a layer mask in GIMP.

Or are you asking how to make a circular portrait like at the bottom
of the page?

So many things you might be asking! :-)

If iPad users care about this, then they can try to push Apple to change
their app store ToS.

horrible case of cyberofernalia :)

But seriously, Apple is dead against software licensed under General Public

You need to select the parts that you want to remove, not the parts you want to

You can select that parts you want to keep, if it's easier, and then use

You have to replace the background in your picture with transparency.

How this is done depends a lot on the picture. Experienced photographers
take the picture for that purpose, in a light tent or against a
illuminated/overblown white background, which can be kept (it will be
pure white) or is very easy to remove (in some cases they use a
completely black background instead).

Typically removing a random background against a random subject isn't
very easy and is rather time consuming. In Gimp you can use the
Foreground selector (that works very well in some cases) or the
intelligent scissors. Work on the original size (scale down for you web
site after removing the background).

Hi All.

I am looking to use Gimp to do a very large drawing for print. I was
using MyPaint but for this particular drawing Gimp will do the job much
better not to mention the CPU resource the .ora format overuses every
time I try to use it in other software not to mention the file itself
is pretty huge to begin with. Anyway I have my drawing tablet working
but Gimp only utilises half of the drawing area vertically and about 85%
of the drawing area horizontally. My current workaround this is to use
excessive panning. I use Gimp 2.6 on Ubuntu 10.10 ( I know its an old
version but I have way too much software and not enough data in the
month to do an complete OS install). Is the problem something that can
be fixed in a file somewhere or is an upgrade an absolute must in this
case.

Is this for an indexed image? Colours-Info has an option to generate a
pallette from the colours in the image, but an RGB image of, say, 3000 x
3000 pixels from a digital camera can contain an awful lot of colours in
it!

2012-12-03 Thread Tobias Lunte

Hello,

Yes, this is the right spot to ask questions about using gimp (though
not as right a place as searching the internet beforehand).
However, it's not entirely clear what it is exactly that you want to do,
which, i guess, is why you didn't get much of an answer.
My guess is that you're trying to take part of an image and move it to
somewhere else in the same image. To do that you have to:
1. Select that part of your image (for example using the
Rectangle-Tool that is automatically active when you start GIMP).
2. 'Select - Float' (or Ctrl+Shift+L). This will lift out the selected
part from the rest of the image (into a temporary layer, if you're
familiar with the concept)

3. You can now Drag'n'Drop the part wherever you want.
4. A single click outside the selection will anchor the selected part
back to the rest of the image. Done.

Tobl

Hi adamjedgar,
I can't answer your question regarding the dds files. As for the part
about linking I'll assume you mean to show a link to an image/data
file. That is done by uploading the file from your computer to a file
storage system that then provides a link to that file that others may
access view. There are many sites that offer this service. Googleing
for image hosting will list several of them for you.

You then include the link in your message instead of the entire file
as an attachment (many lists don't allow attachments).

Hi, please forgive my complete lack of computer knowledge. I'll try to be as
detailed as possible.

I have an Intuos3 tablet and until recently I have not had problems using it in
GIMP. I have a Macbook, running Snow Leopard with the latest software updates.
At one point I accidentally uninstalled X11 so I redownloaded it. That was all
several months ago.

Just today (4/2/2012) when I opened Gimp, X11 said it had an update to install.
I installed it and restarted the computer. When I reopened GIMP, it didn't
recognize my tablet. I immediately went to the Input Devices section and tried
to configure extended input devices. Nothing seemed unusual or different from
the first time I'd configured my tablet, but it still didn't work. I don't
understand how the different input devices are labeled, but here are the ones
that pop up when I press the Configure Extended Input Devices button: Virtual
core XTEST pointer, xquartz virtual pointer, pen, cursor, and eraser. All of
them were automatically set to Disabled when I opened the program: I changed
all of them to window and then to screen, but it still didn't recognize the
tablet.

None of my other programs are having trouble recognizing the tablet. After I
started having trouble, I downloaded the most recent tablet driver and
restarted my computer. Nothing seems to be helping.

I do not have much knowledge about coding or programing or the nitty-gritty of
bug fixes, so if you can help, please speak in very simply terms. :( Thank you
so much in advance!
