Was all the difference for me. 2.8 was lagging and dragging badly. After

It must have been simply different settings of color management. Rights in
itself have anything to do with it, I've just checked.

Tried fully disabling Colour management in the gimps preferences.
I don't think this has anything to do with colour management.
