I would like to offer my apologies to Oliver. I was a little hasty in my comments on "how to draw lines." It is in the index under Drawing, with paths. But that did not appear immediately obvious because I was looking for "lines." It appears I WAS mistaken! And a little explanation about my other comment, "That's a hell of a price..." I actually paid $73.90 australian money and for me that is a big outlay. I am on a pension with a disability. But on a positive note. I really am pleased with the book and I appreciate very much the work that went into its making! Even if I have minor things I would have written differently. You're perfectly right about the meaning of the name, and I'm sorry for my absentmindedness. Sorry to make a second answer to this message: do you really think that $49.95 ($32.93 on Amazon) is such a "hell of a price" for a book of 674 pages in full color, who gave work to two authors for three years? There is a straight line tutorial on the tutorials section of the website ( http://www.gimp.org/tutorials): http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/Straight_Line/ GIMP Quickies _has_ been updated on the tutorial section as well ( http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/GIMP_Quickies/). Obviously a chapter on "bare bones basics" would not have been out of place... Try here though: The online GIMP manual has a Common Tasks section that does include drawing straight lines: http://docs.gimp.org/2.8/en/gimp-tutorial-quickies.html An introduction to image file formats and their uses might also be useful.
