I was using the gimp2_0-2.0.4-1mdk.i586.rpm that came with the above

Thanks Carol, Mark and Malcolm.
I've been experimenting with all the suggested methods
and getting various results. As far as making it trasnparent

Hi!
I try to use gimp to print a picture that I want to match the original
size.
The full size A4 page is 210x297mm.
According to the CUPS testpage, which prints the bounding box about 4 mm
from the edge, the page size is 201.5x288.4mm, the border is 4.2mm
I create a new picture, set the dpi to

Now, have a question:
if I shot in B&W (via digital camera), wouldn't that give me a better image,
to work with in Gimp, instead of converting it to Grey Scale?

Is there any way that I can set the crop tool to crop to a given ratio?
eg: Most prints are all the same ratio (width x height), is there a
way that I can set the crop tool to 3x4 and the when I drag the box on
an image it will alway be in the ratio of 3x4. ie: Whatever I crop
will always print nic
