Just curious Which kind of polymer is it? polyurethane? phenolic? epoxy?
If you say it is not an injected piece, I guess it is a termostable rosin.

Dear Arle,
I think by the time I had faced, banded, etc. that I would prefer to use a
voidless baltic birch ply
Both my wheels are MDF, banded though.
As Arle said: super stable!

Hi Jim
Good day all!
Hello from the Over the Water festival.
We do use a synthetic wheel in most of our instruments. We have been through
a couple of formulations but, we are very pleased with the current results and
we have been using this formula for a couple of years now. It is no longer
necessary
Hi Cali,
I use MDF for lots of jigs and things in the workshop, but it
wouldn't be my first choice for a wheel material, but that is just
my taste,
your mileage may vary. And I know that they do use MDF for many
different
types of furniture but, if I put a drop of water on a piece of MDF
Dear Arle,
I think by the time I had faced, banded, etc. that I would prefer to use a
voidless baltic birch ply with a band which is also very stable and I would
save a step by not having to face the wheel. This is what we have done in the
past and it works well.
We are all looking for a good

Hi Jim,
What do you consider a synthetic? I've recently seen
of the symphonie ... but there
was a lot of plastic (ew shudder) in his work...

I've been playing a horrible lil symphonie that fits this description - and
will continue to play it until the economy improves or someone wants to
volunteer to be my sugar daddy.
The manufacturer's website claims that the plastic parts are precision molded.
I have not experienced any issues

With MDF I suppose if you immersed the wheel in water it would swell
(but if you keep your instrument in a bucket of water, that's likely
to be the least of your problems). For normal use, however, humidity
does not affect MDF. It is, in fact, made from wood particles in a
resin binder.
this symphony is a realy better buy than a musikit anyway , at
700-800. , my son have one , and he is ok with this .sylvain-

They use MDF in bathroom furniture *because* it is basically impervious to
humidity.
