Just curious Which kind of polymer is it? polyurethane? phenolic? epoxy? If you say it is not an injected piece, I guess it is a termostable rosin. 2008/9/18 [EMAIL PROTECTED] Dear Arle, I think by the time I had faced, banded, etc. that I would prefer to use a voidless baltic birch ply

Hi Cali, I use MDF for lots of jigs and things in the workshop, but it wouldn't be my first choice for a wheel material, but that is just my taste, your mileage may vary. And I know that they do use MDF for many different types of furniture but, if I put a drop of water on a piece of MDF

Dear Arle, I think by the time I had faced, banded, etc. that I would prefer to use a voidless baltic birch ply with a band which is also very stable and I would save a step by not having to face the wheel. This is what we have done in the past and it works well. We are all looking for a good

With MDF I suppose if you immersed the wheel in water it would swell (but if you keep your instrument in a bucket of water, that's likely to be the least of your problems). For normal use, however, humidity does not affect MDF. It is, in fact, made from wood particles in a resin binder.
