I've finally had a chance to play the Death Aboard custom campaign. It's an
excellent offering, but ran into a few issues regarding the 6.0 and the 6.1
releases (possibly other versions may have had the same issue described
below).
Hello, Im trying to install a Left 4 Dead Dedicated server using the
HldsUpdateTool. I can get it running and everything, but when the installation
of the server files reaches 99.48% I get this error. Winsock Error 10054,
connection reset by peer. I've deleted everything and reinstalled it

This happens sometimes when *hldsupdatetool* has downloaded everything.
Sporadic, I know.

It's only a guess. I deal with Linux servers, not Windows. A 10054
usually means the connection was dropped.
Bad coding I suppose.

It's no firewall or anything, everything is off. It's not loss of connection I
know that for sure, it has in the same place every single time.
If I run the HldsUpdateTool again right afterwards, it say HLDS installation is
up to date? But can I be certain that everything is installed?
You can be very certain ;)
I think that error is just the server telling the client that it's finished
sending files to you.
Thanks,
- Saul.

Hello,
I start my gameservers in Windows 2003/2008 with the command line option
-nocrashdialog which should disable all crash dialogs.
But I have still some crashes in Team Fortress 2 which show that dialog.
The bad thing is, I have to click ok first before my restart script is
able to restart
I've seen people who don't have the VPK, but have the maps get in the lobby.
I've seen people who don't have the VPK at all get in.
I've seen people who have an older version of the VPK get in.

Read my post first, I wrote, that I already use the -nocrashdialog

What do you mean with D/l ? But I need the option to set the process
affinity, too.
When i remember correct, serverchecker doesn't support it to set gameserver
to a specific cpu core, does it?
Sorry, not sure.
When you start the program the first time it asks you if it needs to
disable all errors etc. You won't have to use the program after.

I tried to play this map last night, initially I was kicked from the game
(while trying to join the server directly) with a 'String table differs'
error.
I deleted the copy of the map I had (from a short while ago - it was in vpk
format) and then installed the one the server suggested, and I got

Unfortunately those engine errors have to be closed by an automated process.
You can either use a program like ServerDoc, FireDaemon, or ServerChecker to
make sure these are closed properly and run your game servers. I've had good
luck with ServerDoc and FireDaemon.

I've never noticed those issues with sourcemod.

L4D is a turd. I'm surprised community serverops are willing to put any kind of
resources towards it as there is simply no return value.

I have no problem getting on my L4D server. When I know I'll be playing, I
change the sv_steamgroup_exclusive cvar to 1 and either kick the people playing
or wait until they are done, then it'll only allow people in my Steamgroup to
play unless we make it a public server via the lobby.

You could always have sv_steamgroup_exclusive cvar set to 1 all the time.
That's what we do with our private server. We start a lobby, execute a config
that lets us connect to our private server and if we don't get enough clan
members, we change it to public and join the server. We can get on

any problems connecting to any of the servers whether and admin is present
or not.
