Re: [hlds] Regarding the server mod that kicks free TF2 players...
Valve can fix this entire quagmire quickly and easily just changing the SteamWorks API so that it no longer reports a difference between F2P and users who have bought an item. There is no need for valve to do anything other than that. Re: [hlds] Regarding the server mod that kicks free TF2 players...
The easiest way in my opinion, is to install slot reserved. We got 5 servers which are full almost non stop since the F2P update. One of those is reserved for community member where they can connect when they want, and that's the best system we got so far. More the F2P players aren't so bad (at least on our servers) and i've been suprised by there willing to progress and to integrate in our community. Concerning lamers cheaters, the best weapons is an active and helpful community with quite a large number of modo in order to clean the servers if needed. [hlds] Regarding the server mod that kicks free TF2 players...
Hi all, I don't want to start a debate or discussion on the mailing list, but I'm sure most of us have heard of the plugin that automatically kicks players that are detected as non-payers on TF2. Can we get an official word about whether Valve is planning to patch this plugin or not? It has become a very heated discussion on the forums and it would be best for Valve to tell the community whether they are planning to patch this controversial mod (or if they even can). Once again, this email is NOT A PLACE FOR DISCUSSION ABOUT THE PLUGIN. I'm simply asking Valve for an official word on the topic. They don't seem to be responding about this issue on the forums. Thank you. ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds
Re: [hlds] Regarding the server mod that kicks free TF2 players...
A mailing list is for discussion, if you wanted Valve's official word you're probably better off mailing a Valve employee directly. Most of those servers should probably just turn off quickplay instead, it's a much nicer way to keep out random players if that is the server owner's concerns. We did that on our most two active servers, not to keep the F2P players out, but more to make sure that our regulars was able to get into the server at all (while still letting F2P players join if they wish, they just need to find it through a server browser). Other than turning off plugins, it's impossible for valve to intervene here. You might want to ease people upset about this that players that people who gets kicked downvotes the score of a server, and in extreme cases can get the server delisted. Re: [hlds] Regarding the server mod that kicks free TF2 players...
It's their server, who cares what they do with it. As long as they don't have quickplay enabled, causing people to randomly join it and then get kicked for not being a premium user, I don't see the problem. Valve can just penalize servers that ban f2p players if they so wish to. Yeah it would be pretty easy to implement. If a f2p client connects, then 2 seconds later is kicked, decrease the server's rep by 10 points or something. -- Kind regards, *Saul Rennison* On 4 July 2011 18:25, Spencer 'Voogru' MacDonald voo...@voogru.com wrote: ** Valve can just penalize servers that ban f2p players if they so wish to. Re: [hlds] Regarding the server mod that kicks free TF2 players...
I think this is a terrible idea. We only bad F2P users from our trade servers because they serve no purpose, and are consuming our much needed slots for no reason. Having our server's rep decreased when we are trying to make it more beneficial for traders would be absurd. I agree there are some places where such a mod would not be good, but on trade servers, it's going to become a necessity. With all due respect to the OP, the point of the mailing list is to have a discussion about server related issues. This is a server related issue, therefore, is eligible for discussion. Registering your server automatically enables it for quickplay, which you can then opt-out of if you wish.
