Re: IEASYS problem

2020-10-07 Thread Peter Relson

All our ieasys00 contains is CLPA, meaning that we always IPL with CLPA.

At the minimum, you would think that ieasys00 should have in it whatever
stuff you want for all users of that ieasys00.
In Barbara's case, that only thing is CLPA.

Many would have in it the "site defaults" that they want, allowing for
override by other ieasysxx's, to avoid having to change every one of those
ieasysxx's if some site default is to be changed.

It is the last one processed that takes precedence. Each one is processed from
left to right with each parameter over riding the previous specification.

On my system I specify (00,HW,H8). Note IEASYS00 is the first one processed.

I have no member duplicates. All "IBM supplied" members do reside in
"PARMLIB.ARCH" libraries which are out of PARMLIB concatenation. Just for
reference. So whenever I see MEMBER00 I have no chance to view/edit wrong
duplicate with same name but different content.

In this case I have one IEASYS00. Usually I don't need another one, but in rare
cases I simply create copy IEASYS00 (with different suffix) and use it. And
some comment inside to describe who, when, what and why. And that copy is still
concatenated with IEASYS00, but all the content is overriden by the copy.

'sys1.samplib(SPPINST)' installs a tool for which the front exec is
SYSPARM. It has two main purposes -- help you to build a syntactically
correct LOADxx and let you view what your parmlib members would look like
with the identified set of system symbols. It does syntax-check GRSRNLxx.

FWIW, some parmlib members support the syntax-check option of the SET
command.

For example
SET PROG=(XX,C)

Re: IEASYS problem

2020-10-06 Thread R.S.

You want something unnecessary and impossible. IEASYS00 has to be read.
But...

Why do you want 0B member?
a) you always choose 0B => just rename it to 00.

b) you want to have a choice (0B, AA, 04, 0C...)
In this case ...you have further choice:
b.1) you may create empty or "almost empty" IEASYS00. Just put there
something irrelevant, but syntactically correct.
b.2) simply leave IEASYS00 as it is and put YOUR SETTINGS in IEASYS0B.
In case of conflict 0B wins, so 00 definitions would remain ineffective.
b.3) leave IEASYS00, but leave only those options which are not present
in your 0B member and other members (04, 0C...). Just for simplicity.

Hi,
During the IPL, The message:
IEA008I SYSTEM PARMS FOLLOW FOR z/OS 02.03.00 HBB77B0
IEASYS0B
IEASYS00
Was displayed.
I then see
IEE252I MEMBER IEASYS00 FOUND IN SYS1.PARMLIB IEA325I IEASYS00 PARAMETER LIST
With a list of all of the parameters is IEASYS00 IEE252I MEMBER IEASYS0B FOUND

parameters is IEASYS0B IEE252I MEMBER IEASYS00 FOUND IN SYS1.PARMLIB IEA325I
IEASYS00 PARAMETER LIST With a list of all of the parameters is IEASYS00

So it looks like IEASYS00 was read twice.
When I looked in IEASYM00 it said:
SYSDEF SYSPARM(00,L)
SYMDEF(='V919')
I changed IEASYM00 to:
SYSDEF LPARNAME(CDVL) SYSPARM(0A,L)
SYMDEF(='V919')
SYSDEF LPARNAME(CMP1) SYSPARM(0B,L)
SYMDEF(='V919')
Which I hope will fix the problem.

We have a product called Image Focus from NewEra Software, which among other
things, parses the PARMLIB.
It currently tells me that everything is OK.

I'll have to wait for the next IPL to check.

Re: IEASYS problem

2020-10-05 Thread Gadi Ben-Avi
Hi,
During the IPL, The message:
IEA008I SYSTEM PARMS FOLLOW FOR z/OS 02.03.00 HBB77B0
IEASYS0B
IEASYS00
Was displayed.
I then see
IEE252I MEMBER IEASYS00 FOUND IN SYS1.PARMLIB
IEA325I IEASYS00 PARAMETER LIST
With a list of all of the parameters is IEASYS00
IEE252I MEMBER IEASYS0B FOUND IN SYS1.PARMLIB
IEA325I IEASYS0B PARAMETER LIST
With a list of all of the parameters is IEASYS0B
IEE252I MEMBER IEASYS00 FOUND IN SYS1.PARMLIB
IEA325I IEASYS00 PARAMETER LIST
With a list of all of the parameters is IEASYS00

So it looks like IEASYS00 was read twice.
When I looked in IEASYM00 it said:
SYSDEF SYSPARM(00,L)
SYMDEF(='V919')
I changed IEASYM00 to:
SYSDEF LPARNAME(CDVL) SYSPARM(0A,L)
SYMDEF(='V919')
SYSDEF LPARNAME(CMP1) SYSPARM(0B,L)
SYMDEF(='V919')
Which I hope will fix the problem.

We have a product called Image Focus from NewEra Software, which among other
things, parses the PARMLIB.
It currently tells me that everything is OK.

I'll have to wait for the next IPL to check.

Gadi

You cannot, 00 is always used as the base, you can only concatenate
over-rides to it. LOADxx and IEASYMxx will concatenate to 00, and WTOR
response will over-ride LOADxx and IEASYMxx -- but I know of no way to
eliminate 00 as a base. Normally 0B would have all the needed over-ride
values for 00 making it effectively the same as "only 0B" :)

Re: IEASYS problem

2020-10-03 Thread Lizette Koehler
One REXX you might want to include on your system is
http://www.mzelden.com/mvsfiles/iplinfo.txt

IPLINFO is a great tool that will show you all sorts of wonderful
information.

It can be run in batch or online

It can let you know the HCD dataset, load parms and Parmlib Concatenations.

All this can help when your IPL is not going as planned.

All answers provided are good. I definitely would go through SYSLOG from
the IPL and starting with message IEA093I scroll through the log to see how
IEASYS was specified.

Also in your specifications, you might want to include ,L as part of your
parms where it applies

For example to display your IEASYSxx members and details, you would use this
coding:

*---+1+2+3+4+5+6+7--
SYSPARM (01,02,L)

It is possible that maybe a delete of the good IEASYSxx occurred and it
picked up the other version

Was there an IEA101A SPECIFY SYSTEM PARAMETERS.
And the response was 00 instead of 0b?

The 0B in LOAD only says find a member called IEASYS0B. Could there be
multiple versions of IEASYS0B in your PARMLIB Concatenation?

What is on your PARMLIB statement in LOADxx

If it contains multiple datasets, check each one for IEASYS0B

Many things to look at

Lizette

HI,

I went into work this evening to IPL our production LPAR's

When I IPL's one system, it used IEASYS00 instead of the system specific
IEASYS0B.

The LOAD member for the LPAR says

SYSPARM 0B.

The only thing that has changed recently is that we started using IEASYM for
the first time ever.

We specified IEASYM 00 in LOADxx and there is an IEASYM00 member in
SYS1.PARMLIB that adds a static symbol.

Could this be causing the problem?

We are running z/OS v2.3
