Sylvain, beautiful copy you had, congrats!

1098 has audio again right now at 2245 UTC under WTAM splatter which is
very difficult to null here for some reason on my North DKAZ.

I'm not quite sure how I managed this with
fmscan.org, but try this in your browser:

If anyone knows how to use fmscan.org
consistently to get transmitter patterns, please
let me know. The information is there (how
accurate?), but it seems awfully hit and miss to get them.

best wishes,

Nick

Maybe CNR11 has their transmitter pattern
aligned incorrectly, hi. (FMScan.org says the
Golmud site is directed at 205 degrees, hardly
a good pattern for the Americas, but I wonder
if there is a secondary lobe directed
north?),   Although the site is hugely
inland, It is interesting how well they can do
(they've been heard in Victoria also, rarely),
and are probably a good illustration of  the
effectiveness of "over the pole" propagation
during low sunspot years, like 1521 on the
east coast.   In fact, 1521 and 1098 should
both be targets this season for those in the central USA/Canada.

2018-11-01 Thread Neil Kazaross
Very nice. I wonder how the two Tims did for Asia this morning? I didn't
have anything here in IL on the west DKAZ that I could specifically pin
down as Asian. I did catch a couple low band "usual" 50 kW Aussies weakly
but good enough to tell was DU talk for my first ever Aussies logged in
November. They can really spike stronger right around my sunrise.

As for Golmud 1098, I per EZNEC am losing about 11.5 dB in their direction
compared to what a north DKAZ of the same size would deliver. All the
supports are in for my north DKAZ, but I still have to wire it up.
I had more tree trimming to do yesterday to prepare for installation than
expected and since I am back at work, I don't expect to have this usable
until Saturday.

No joy on 1548 I'm afraid, Bill, at least not at the top of the hour,

1098 was the first TP/DU carrier Nick found on Sunday AM in
KC. Kind of fun watching him race around using his little teeny
laptop and some non-Perseus software I was totally unfamiliar
with. Made me like stock Perseus s/ware even more. ;-)

Still curious to know if he round any audio on 1548 when he got
home. Was a bit past sunrise by the TOH at 1200utc but it wasn't
doing bad on fade-ups.

We had fun.

OK so Marshalls is 10 kW again. Weren't they spec'd at more before? Like 20
kW? Will they be getting up to that level? Marshalls usually signs off
early (for most TP/DU's) and as a result isn't running any audio when many
people notice the carrier.

[IRCA] 1098 news

2013-11-04 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
After two mornings of hearing CNR11 on 1098 (and not since), here's
something to confuse the issue further:

Mauno Ritola reports on the RealDX group:

RTI... have again started using 1098 kHz
1300-1700, weekdays 1705. I also heard them going past the
hour without ID and signing off at 1705 last Monday.
Hiroyuki Okamura confirmed my clip.

He further notes that he isn't sure when they changed, but certainly

at least by the start of the B13 season: last Sunday.
CNR11 Golmud signs off at 1605.

Another target for those late openings

best wishes,

Nick

Great loggings. I'm surprised by the lack of NAm stations, though. Every time
I've dx'd from Hawaii (numerous locations), I've always received the west coast
well, and yes, 730 was always well heard. Try for 1130 Vancouver...it also
blasts in. Re 1593that would be a good catch! My thinking, though, is
that it's more likely NHK2, but keep listening to be sure! ..Walt.

Walt and Colin,

Great DX in Hawaii so far, Colin! Radio Marshalls-1098 was also
booming in for me on a Slider E100 at Grayland on November 2nd, with bassy
audio
and long choral songs. An MP3 of the reception was uploaded to the
ultralightdx Yahoo group site. It's amazing how this station only shows up
with audio
on the coast, and nor further inland (at least for me).
