[JAWS-Users] Composing E-mails

2007-01-17 Thread Victor Gouveia

Hi all.

I am using Jaws 7 with XP home.

I am also using Outlook Express to compose e-mails.

Lately, when composing e-mails text in the message seems to be cut off at the
ends of sentences.

Almost like the word wrap thing in Windows note Pad.

If I didn't know any better, I'd swear I had a similar feature like Word Wrap
turned off or something.

On the flip side, if I maximize the message window that problem goes away and
I'm able to read the line in it's entirety.

Any ideas why this is happening and how I can fix it?

I also noticed that in the format menu of the composing message window,
something like send picture is checked.

Admittedly, I've never noticed that before as I've never experienced this
problem, so I can't say if that's always been checked or not, so the question
is, should it be checked or not?

It's not a major thing, but it's just a pain in the ass to have to maximize the
window every time.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Composing E-mails

2007-01-17 Thread Victor Gouveia

Hi David,

Although I thank you for your response, I feel I have too many things in my
system tray as it is.

Is there no other way of ensuring that this does not happen.

My logic is that since this was not happening before, and I do not have this
problem with other computers I've had in the past, I think there is some
setting that got screwed up along the way.

This does get frustrating though, as sometimes my settings on this computer
get changed without my say so.

For example, I have the various program associations set with IE, such as
E-mail to use Outlook Express and my address book as my contacts list, but
it will occasionally get changed to MS Office Outlook, which is not where I
want it.

I guess this is another question to put to the list.

Why does this happen, and how can I keep it from happening in the future?

I know all about spyware and viruses, and so far, I haven't had such
problems with bad installations, thank God, but there has to be an
explanation somewhere out there, as well as, a fix for this sort of problem.

Well there is a another way to make your windows always come up maximized if
you're comfortable with doing some scripting. I have a script here that
will do just that from Debbie's web site quite a while ago and it works very
well. I actually used it for several years until I finally got tired of
performing surgery on my scripts every time another version of JAWS came
down the pike. Let me know if you're interested. Addressing the other
question will require more thought. It's happened to me but not as often to
this point.

Victor,

I don't have an answer but I have experienced the same thing and for a while
the edit window seemed to minimize or something because I couldn't read a thing
and all keystrokes, although echoed, were delayed unless I maximized the
window. Don't know why or what brought it on then as mysteriously as it began
it went away.

I am convinced that this is a feature of XP, that is, random adjustment of
software settings.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Tables in Word

2007-01-17 Thread ANDREW GODWIN

Greetings Andy,

I found the below info in the JAWS help menu.
HTH, Andrew
Tables in Word

JAWS detects when you move into, out of, and within a table (from row to row
or column to column) and even warns you when you TAB into the last cell.
JAWS
also indicates when the number of columns changes from one row to another.
Table detection includes nested tables.

Press CTRL+INSERT+T to list all tables in the document. The list shows each
table and its dimensions. Select the table you want, and press ENTER to move
to it. The insertion point is placed in the first cell of the table, or in
the first form field in the table if the document is protected.

Reading Tables

In Word, once in a table, press TAB to move to the next cell, and press
SHIFT+TAB to move to the prior cell. The JAWS standard commands for reading
tables
are also supported. Refer to
Using JAWS to Navigate Tables.

To read a table row, press ALT+INSERT+R. To read a table column, press
ALT+INSERT+C.

Column and Row Titles

JAWS can be set to automatically announce the title of columns and/or rows
as you move through tables. To configure row and/or column title reading:

list of 4 items
1. Move to the column or row that contains the titles. If you are setting
both column and row titles, move to the cell where the column and row
containing
the titles intersect.
2. Press INSERT+V to open the Adjust JAWS Verbosity dialog.
3. Move to Set Row Titles Column to specify row titles are within the
current column. Move to Set Column Titles Row to specify that column titles
are within
the current row.
4. Press ENTER to close the dialog.
list end

The Title Reading verbosity item is automatically set based on whether you
configured row titles, column titles, or both. If you feel you are receiving
too much information, return to the Adjust JAWS Verbosity dialog, move to
Title reading, and select the setting you want to use. The available
settings
are:

list of 4 items
. Read No Titles
. Read Column Titles
. Read Row Titles
. Read Both Titles
list end

To reread a column title, press ALT+INSERT+SHIFT+C and to reread a row
title, press ALT+INSERT+SHIFT+R.

To reset the row and column title definitions to the default and turn off
title reading, open the Adjust JAWS Verbosity dialog, move to Clear Title
Definitions,
and press SPACEBAR.

Non Uniform Tables

Non uniform tables are tables with rows that span more than one column, or
columns that span more than one row. JAWS can provide detailed information
about
the table that can help you navigate and get oriented. If you do not want to
hear this information, press INSERT+V, select "Table Description," and press
the SPACEBAR to choose "Off." This setting is retained even after you quit
Word.

While Table Description is on, JAWS informs you when you move into a
non-uniform table. You can then press INSERT+F1 to learn more about the
table. If the
table contains merged columns, JAWS says, "At least one cell in this table
spans more than one column." If the table contains merged rows, JAWS says,
"At
least one cell in this table spans more than one row."

Tables with Merged Columns

If a table has merged cells that span one or more columns and Table
Description is on, JAWS announces when the number of columns changes as you
move from
row to row with ALT+CTRL+UP or DOWN ARROW. For example, in a table with
eight columns, if you move from a regular cell to a cell that spans five
columns,
JAWS says, "Number of columns changed from eight to four."

If you set a row to be used for column headers that contains a non uniform
number of cells, JAWS cannot properly associate the column headers. For
example,
if you have a table with eight columns, but the first row contains only four
cells, and you assign that row for column headers, JAWS does not read the
column headers, but only states the position within the table.

If the first or last rows contain differing numbers of cells from the other
rows in a table, it may not be possible for JAWS to identify the top or
bottom
of a column. In this case, if you use the commands to move to the top or
bottom of a column, ALT+CTRL+SHIFT+UP ARROW and ALT+CTRL+SHIFT+DOWN ARROW,
JAWS
announces that the move cannot be made, and the insertion point is not
moved.

Tables with Merged Rows

A table may have columns that span multiple rows. JAWS does not indicate
when you have moved from a regular cell into a cell that spans multiple
rows. In
addition, you cannot use ALT+CTRL+UP or DOWN ARROW to navigate a table with
merged rows. If the table also has both merged rows and merged columns, you
may not be able to use ALT+CTRL+RIGHT or LEFT ARROW to navigate the table
either. Instead, use TAB and SHIFT+TAB to move through the table cells.

Creating Accessible Tables

You can create accessible tables for JAWS 6.0 or later solely by using
functionality available in Microsoft Word. This means that even those who do
not
use JAWS can mark table row and/or column headi

Hi Donny. Be sure that you check out the Accessibility section on the Adobe
web site. But once you download Version 8, then open it. The Install
Wizard will do the rest. It creates a folder with all of the programs in
it. It even sets up a link on your Desktop.
It's about the simpleist installation I've ever seen.

I haven't seen this at all, so can't really be of much help. Is there any
possibility that just at the point where you press CTRL+R, some new mail is

Something really strange about Jaws Version 8 and Outlook Express. Many
times, when I press the Control R command when I'm lined up on a message,
the Edit box opens okay but Jaws is so sluggish as to be practically
useless. You type a word and about 2 seconds later, Jaws responds. Does
anyone know what could cause this to happen?

Maybe there's some kind of setting change I should make.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Tables in Word

2007-01-17 Thread one foxy lady

Tables can be accessed by tab/shift tab, also you can press insert-8/up
arrow on the numpad to hear the line the cursor is on. Bear in mind tables
will let the cursor move from left to right in a cell one didget at a time
and at the end of the last cell on the last row, jaws will say a warning if
you press tab here it will add another row, so don't do this action unless
that's what your after. Just shift-tab to go back to the first cell in that
row.
You also can move up/down arrow as well and if you leave the tables jaws
will tell you this..
If you add an extra row by tabbing at the end of the table row last row, do
this to get rid of it..

while in that row you wish to delete press alt E, D arrow to delete row and
enter on it.

2007-01-17 Thread Flor Lynch
Two things you could try, in relation to the persistent Flash: First, Go into the JAWS verbosity with Jaws+v, andarrow down or hit f until Flash is highlighted. Turn Flash off by toggling with the spacebar. then, if you're going to be returning to the site, you can "personalize settings for this page". For this, hit Jaws+Shift+v, and again choose Flash and toggle it to off. This means that, for the version of JAWS in current use, The Flash will always be off when it sees this site until you alter the personalized settings. .

Two things you could try, in relation to the persistent Flash: First, Go
into the JAWS verbosity with Jaws+v, andarrow down or hit f until Flash is
highlighted. Turn Flash off by toggling with the spacebar. then, if you're
going to be returning to the site, you can "personalize settings for this
page". For this, hit Jaws+Shift+v, and again choose Flash and toggle it to
off. This means that, for the version of JAWS in current use, The Flash
will always be off when it sees this site until you alter the personalized
settings. .

I tried what you suggested. Now, jaws reads the page, and shuts up
completely. Can't get the links list to talk or any of the navigation
keys!>

[JAWS-Users] Re: Composing E-mails

2007-01-17 Thread David Ferrin

Here's the function but the problem is with version 8 I'm not having an easy
a time placing the line to call the function as I did in the past. The same
instructions don't work like they did then. Never the less here's something
for you folks to go over and maybe somebody out there will find the spot to
call it even though I haven't this evening.

David Ferrin
the Function AutoMaximize goes in the default script file so it may be
called from other applications as well.

void Function AutoMaximize ()
var string StatusSymbol
SaveCursor ()
FindGraphic (GetAppMainWindow (GetCurrentWindow ()), "maximize symbol",
s_top, s_unrestricted)

let StatusSymbol=GetWord()
If StatusSymbol == "Maximize Symbol" Then
LeftMouseButton ()
EndIf
RestoreCursor ()
Pause()
EndFunction

[JAWS-Users] Re: JAWS 8 AND THE REPLY FEATURE

2007-01-17 Thread Jeffrey Turner

I have also experienced very sluggish response when forwarding or replying
to a message if that message was sent as html. I've always just accepted it
as the nature of the html beast.

Do you experience this sluggish behavior on text messages?

Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 8 AND THE REPLY FEATURE

Something really strange about Jaws Version 8 and Outlook Express. Many
times, when I press the Control R command when I'm lined up on a message,
the Edit box opens okay but Jaws is so sluggish as to be practically
useless. You type a word and about 2 seconds later, Jaws responds. Does
anyone know what could cause this to happen?

Maybe there's some kind of setting change I should make.

John Justice

[JAWS-Users] Window Maximization Scripts

2007-01-17 Thread Victor Gouveia

Uhm, David?

For the ignorant among us, what the heck are we supposed to do with this?

Sorry, but you didn't specify, and I'm using Jaws 7 still, not Jaws 8, if
that makes a difference.

You also didn't specify what to do when this is done.

Victor.
