[JAWS-Users] list memo
Hello and welcome to all the new members of the list. The count is at an all time high right now at 271, and even though the archives address is counted in there this thing has grown much larger then I figured it ever would. Never the less to the business at hand. The current plan is to move this list on Friday June first to my domain provider's server. It uses the Mailman program for list traffic and I've been testing and configuring it for the past week and a half. Rick and I believe it is ready for prime time right now, but I'm giving it another week to press the lapels ETC. The plan is right now to automatically subscribe everybody who is on here at that time to the new list. I feel that will give you folks and us a bit less work to do during the transition. I am planning on doing an audio on the mailman client this week for those who aren't familiar with it, and to be honest I need to review a couple of things too. You will all be able to go no mail or set digest mode yourselves through the email interface. Also the program claims to handle bounce processing on it's own, that's way cool for us let me tell you. Lastly for right now if anybody doesn't wish to make the move they will be able to unsubscribe from the new list as easy as it is to come or go here. I still need to bring the rest of the team up to speed, but that shouldn't be too tuff once we all hook up. Any questions or concerns should be directed to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] David Ferrin Personal Email Address [EMAIL PROTECTED] --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ Visit the JAWS Users List home page at: http://www.jaws-users.com Address for the list archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/jaws-users-list%40googlegroups.com/ To post to this group, send email to jaws-users-list@googlegroups.com To unsubscribe from this group, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Use the following form in order to contact the management team http://www.jaws-users.com/managers.php -~--~~~~--~~--~--~---

[JAWS-Users] memo to the list
Well as I did earlier today I'm replying to you both on and off list in an attempt to make sure you receive this message. You are still on here and no the list is not dead although it would seem in some what critical condition for the moment. Google has been giving those of us who run these things a bad time of late. For the past week I've been setting up and testing out the Mailman program on my server space that hosts this group's web page and of course my email accounts. The list is at this time going to remain on here for a little while longer at least until I'm fairly satisfied that the new configuration is ready for prime time so to speak, and of course I bring the rest of the team up to speed on it as well. Possibly June first at the earliest, but that's not set in stone. This business of having to reset accounts is getting tiresome with google. I'll climb down off of my soap box for now and go check your account to see if it needs reset miss Sarah. [JAWS-Users] update on the current plan about the list's future
Well I've received at this point no less than 20 replies to the help desk address, personally I'm impressed folks. Any how it should I hope come as good news that shutting down the list is not in the plan any longer at this time. We forget some times just how providing a forum for folks to help each other out effects so many of you out there. Honestly that's why it exists in the first place. Besides I like contributing in my small way to the blindness community. I have three options for providers at this time. So the team and I will be looking at all of them in the days ahead. Again if you have any further thoughts and or opinions send them to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I've configured that address so it goes to all four of us at the same time, no closed door policies here. [JAWS-Users] memo to the entire list
For the past several weeks or so google groups has been giving those of us who run this beast problems that I can only describe as deal breakers for the lack of a better term. Many of you have got your accounts reset by one of us during this time and to be honest it's getting to be a lot of work. Actually it's been more so here lately then it was for the entire first five months after the move. I'm not sure what exactly to do at this point. The options are try and ride the storm out and hope for the best. Move it back to Yahoo or simply shut it down. I figure that there's enough of an interest in this group that shutting it down would only be a last resort. I moved it for mainly two reasons, first quicker delivery of messages, and second for less work on the management side. Delivery for many people has stopped for no reason at all, and the work side for management is starting to grow quite a bit. Please direct your opinions to the following address [EMAIL PROTECTED] I've set that account up for this purpose, and when this is resolved it will go away. I've sort of set a time frame to make the final choice regarding a move back for June first, three weeks from today. Interestingly enough that will be six months exactly since the last move. There are a number of issues to take care of either way, and I haven't had the chance to speak with all of the other managers on here as of yet. In fact at least one person so far as I know has never done a Yahoo group before at all. [JAWS-Users] new programs
I've been adding various programs all along here, but I wanted to point out the couple just posted today. First an updated version of 7 zip. Second a MP3 file splitting program called book split. I suggest it only be used for straight voice files because it only splits by a pre determined time interval. You have some play so far as setting that is concerned, but it wouldn't work well for music files. I may do an audio tutorial on it as the thing wouldn't be too tuff to do. [JAWS-Users] May first guide lines reminder message
Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list. This list has been created for The purpose of discussing all aspects of the JAWS for Windows screen reader Program. So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about what software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even better with scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could be requesting information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as we all know works very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a certain task or want to learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently. Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for exact instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason. It creates a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does. The ideal place I am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that everybody no matter how new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have the confidence to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck the list will be there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say that help is quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it last than first. So try it yourself first what ever it might happen to be. If you get stuck then let the list know what you've done to try and resolve your current dilemma. Then I'm sure help will arrive with in short order. Next a post asking if there is a software package that does a specific task and works well with JAWS is perfectly fine. The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite and Patient with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no bashing of Freedom Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with them then I suggest you take it up with Freedom Scientific directly. Please try to keep subject lines relevant and descriptive as possible. Also any news letters except those that directly pertain to JAWS should not be posted to the list prior to receiving moderator approval. Attachments should never be sent to the list at all for any reason what so ever. When contacting any of the list moderators privately please be descriptive in the subject line as to the purpose of the message. Many of us simply delete messages from people we don't know. At the present time there are around 200 subscribers to this list, so we can't possibly know everybody on here. Also, if you have a question for the list that falls within the guidelines, then post it accordingly. Don't contact the management team with questions that are more appropriate for the list itself. Your question may or may not receive an answer for a number of reasons. Everybody should familiarize themselves with the content contained in the footer message that accompanies every message posted to the list. There you will find the group web address along with some other relevant information pertaining to contacting the management team ETC. It is very frustrating to read a post asking for the groupÂ’s web address when the very next line states visit the JAWS Users List home page and the next line after that is the URL. Occasionally there might be some difficulty with your email address and you may receive an email from Google Groups asking you to reactivate your account. Please donÂ’t simply delete this message. Instead open it and follow the directions to reactivate your account of course after making sure it is from Google Groups. If you donÂ’t after receiving a number of such messages then we will figure that you no longer wish to be a member of the list and remove your email address. The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along with flirting or other such inappropriate activities. This is not a high tech swap shop or anything of that nature at all. This means that goods and or services will not be bought or sold using this forum. If you know a given subject is off topic then don't post it. Simply placing off topic in the subject line does not make it all right. Lastly please no jokes, virus warnings, recipes, safety tips, or pleas to help dying kids, should ever be forwarded to the list. My hope is that this list will always be a place where everybody no matter what their particular skill level can feel safe to ask any question at all with in the guidelines that I have set forth. It is my experience that such rules of conduct are important to keep good people on the list. --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ Visit the JAWS Users List home page at: http://www.jaws-users.com Address for the list archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/jaws-users-list%40googlegroups.com/ To post to this group, send email to jaws-users-list@googlegroups.com To unsubscribe from this group, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Use the following form in order to contact the management team http://www.jaws-users.com/managers.php -~--~~~~--~~--~--~---

I navigate to the folder on the camera storage device and locate the list of pictures currently residing on it. I then copy the pictures to a folder on my computer. You will either identify the pictures by their number assigned by the camera, or you will just have to remember that the pictures you are looking for are the last 5 pictures, for example. [JAWS-Users] Re: Blocking e-mails in OE from Claude Rains
Try creating a message rule to delete messages if the from field contains sender unspecified. If that works it will simply send them to your deleted folder. Now if that works for you then change the rule to have them deleted off of the server and you'll hopefully never need to deal with the invisible man again. Let me know if it works for you because it's been a while since I've had to deal with anything like our friend Clod Raines. David Ferrin Never purchase the first version of anything. Lately, especially this week, I have been getting a lot of e-mails from 'sender unspecified.' These have no sender return address when I open them, no subject line and no text in the body of the message. When I try to use the BLOCK SENDER function, OE alerts me that the sender could not be blocked (I take it because the sender is unspecified). However, there *are* e-mails coming in, they have a time and date on them. Just no content and no return e-mail addy. Is there any way to block this sort of message? Today alone I got eight of them, and they seem to be multiplying like rabbits week to week. Anybody else have experience with this? [JAWS-Users] thunderbird
Well I'm once again taking thunder bird around the block this morning and it's driving a little smoother now that I have the seat adjusted correctly along with a couple of other things. This is thanks to some coaching by Rick and a couple of lights coming on inside my head, no wonder I can't sleep at night it's too bright in there but I digress. Actually it seems to have it all and then some folks, I'm quite impressed. I noticed that you could have identities and virtually everything else that outlook express has and possibly even more. It might not replace my default email client but it's probably going on the road when we travel for sure. Who knows that audio tutorial maybe coming sooner than I thought, only time will tell. [JAWS-Users] Re: CCleaner
Well according to the web page where I got the thing It didn't really sound like all that much. The bugs it fixes aren't very common, as a result I say if the version you are using at this time is working perfectly for you then leave well enough alone. On the other hand if you are somebody who has trouble with the program in the past then possibly this update might just fix what ever issues you are experiencing. [JAWS-Users] impressions on thunderbird portable so far
Well I have got to tell you folks that if you're looking for something simple and really basic to use for retrieving your email on the go then I'm not sure it is for you. On the other hand if you really need a powerful portable program that is completely stocked with any and or all of the bells and whistles that you're accustomed to on your home system then by all means give it a shot. It seems to have everything and even more then outlook express built in to a small package. It's going to take a while to setup but the program will import virtually everything you already have in either outlook, Eudora, and outlook express for starters. It's a lot of car to drive, but since I like a reasonable challenge I'm going to work on it some more myself. In fact it seems to be enough of a program that it could completely become your main email client. I can tell you it does have the capability to assume the roll of your primary email program just so you know. [JAWS-Users] updates to the web site
I've just added a couple of programs under the internet heading, and I've also added the thunderbird portable email client up there as well. Like I said folks, it's a lot of car to drive, but the program seems to have it all and more. I might do an audio tutorial on it in the near future after and assuming I become more proficient with the program myself. I figure before I can do such a thing it requires more than just a passing understanding of the program. [JAWS-Users] Re: XP Start menu;
Why in the world would I mind you or anybody at all offering suggestions? Never give it another thought my friend. I created this list so I could learn new things myself along with sharing what ever information that I already accumulated over the years. I've picked up many a tip over time from beginners and more advanced people than myself. The fact is you never know where or from who your next bit of information may come from. This programs sub menu off of the start menu I've always considered a little quirk and have never given it much thought is all. It's got something to do with having quite a number of items on my to do list that take priority. Of course if somebody comes up with the answer then I sure will take note of it and possibly post same on the web. Kerry, look in the explore my settings sub menu of your particular version of jaws. Once in there obviously keep hitting the letter D until you land on the default files. In other words they wish you to delete files that you have modified yourself thus restoring their original default configuration settings. Unfortunately this means any changes in there will need to be reapplied. [JAWS-Users] Re: JFW8 Update
Those are the correct places to look all right, besides the JSB file is the only one that jaws is interested in. It's the binary compilation of the original source code converted in to machine language. It looks like more research needs to be done in this area before further advice can be given out, sorry for now. [JAWS-Users] updates to the programs page
I've added another cleaning type program along with a time setting program. They may be found under the internet heading. In fact they are the first two links there. I will be adding more as the days and weeks go along here. I do have a number of other files to place up there, it's just a matter of plugging away at the mound. I believe you are referring to IE 7.0, not windows XP. XP support goes all the way back to 4.51 actually. IE 7 support just started in 7.1. [JAWS-Users] thunderbird portable
Well I'm taking this program around the block right now so to speak, and here are a couple of first impressions for anybody who's interested. It's a bit more work to setup but that seems to be because this program is much more fully featured than pop corn at least at first glance. I'm far from making a final vote on it, but it does seem to do everything and even more then I expected it would. It even has a spell checker which is a plus for somebody like me for sure.
