I read about the Switch program on here yesterday and am wondering how it
compares to Gold Wave for converting music type formats? I am in need of a
program to convert many different type music extensions to MP3. Which is
the most JAWS friendly and which works the best and/or is easiest to use?
I believe some other folks had this issue but I was not able to find the
discussion in the archives, so I'm gonna ask again. I've got a student who
recently put JAWS 9 (9.0.519 to be exact) on his new laptop which is running XP
Home and when he's using MS Word '03, JAWS fails to read the menu
If yu press insert-up arrow on each item, it should read. Not good,
I know, but maybe workable.

Hi:
I need to do a lot of proofreading and I know there is sounds manager, but I
need certain things that I can't find there; it would be simple to just make my
own scheme, but like I said, I can't find all the settings I need to change. I
thought there was a way to set specific settings for
Hi Al. I've tried switch but prefer goldwave as you can get scripts for

Well one work around is to save your documents as RTF documents and have a
separate configuration file for WordPad. You could then use the Classic
scheme with font attributes announced in Speech and Sound Manager and set
punctuation to all.

I tried going to the task bar properties but am not sure as to what to do
next. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Rosemarie.
I assume you're running windows XP. If you are you can do the following.
1. Go to the start menu and the programs submenu, then navigate to your
startup submenu.
2. Once in the startup submenu, you can navigate to the JAWS 451 item, and
then you need to press the

Hi David:
Thanks so very much! This never occurred to me because I really never have
done anything with RTF. Great work-around and will save me a lot of time.
Thanks, Deb.

A good text editor to use for this is EdSharp. It's free and open source
and works with rtf. One cool thing is that it uses the microsoft word spell
checker if you have Word installed.
The URL is

The program is made for regular text editing, but
I tried Switch but what I found is there is a different list of file types
to convert from and then to. For instance, I have some M4A files I wanted
to convert to MP3. You can only convert to M4A not from.

Does anybody know of a good sight too look up phone numbers? Dex and I

Also, has anybody experimented with a browser from the UK called
Webbie? It's spacifically designed for the vision impaired. I'm
playing with it, but it doesn't seem to work
The programs page has it included in the winamp plugins zip file.

You might want to try http://www.whitepages.com, or if a business is what
you're looking for, try http://www.yellowpages.com. It's also been known, if
you GOOGLE someone's Name or their Phone number, you can find them that way.
Just type the person's name or Phone number into the search box at
Carlene, sometimes Google is the quickest way to get a phone number. Use
quotation marks around the name of the person, first name last name outside
the quotation marks write location and see what you get. It works for me.
