This laptop is to have two usb 2.0 and one 3.0 ports. Is the 3.0 port a
different shape? I need 3 usb devices for tonights meeting and only two fit.
There is a port next to the two 2.0 ports that is a different shape.

Yes, The HDMI ports are similar in shape, but a USB plug will not fit there,
at all.

USB 3.0 ports are the same shape as USB 2.0 ports, and usually are blue
in color. usually, but not always, the 3.0 port is on the left side of
the laptop.
that odd shaped port must be something else, like a HDMI port?

I should note that on my Dell Latitude E series laptop, a single 2.0 port
and the single 3.0 port are on the right side, a single 2.0 port on the left
side, and at least two more 2.0 ports on the back. Again if the color blue
does not help, again the 3.0 port feels like there is a slight
Hi Dave,
Thank you so much for the hint about how to identify the USB 3.0 port. I
had not noticed that before, but sure as heck, I could easily tell them
apart based upon your description. The 3.0 port will come in handy for my
external backup hard drive, which I know is 3.0 compatible.
No, they are all the same shape. You can plug a 2.0 into a 3.0 and
vice-versa. You can feel the difference with your fingers. The 2.0 port is
pretty open but the 3.0 port feels like there are contacts right up to the
edge of the opening.

Hi, you need to make a change in the date format under regional and language
settings. Short date m/d/ long format , dd, . That should
fix the problem.

No, they are the same shape. I think the USB 3 port may be labeled, it should
be blue in color according the recommended tech specs..
But, they have to be the same shape to maintain backward compatibility.

I will have to check. I had the same problem and it was date format causing
the issue. Someone gave the tip on format. I made the change and it did work.
I will have to get back to you tomorrow because it did fix my problem.

Yes, Kevin,
It seems like we now can upgrade to w-10 using the windows update instead of
the media tool.
I just found this out today.
After trying four times with the media tool to upgrade a friends computer.
I finally went through the windows update, it worked like a charm the first
time.
I know do not want now. How to stop it?
