Someone on another list posted the results of an interesting test that was
conducted to compare the reading speed of JAWS against its leading competitor.
You can use these results as a rough guide to determine how many words per
minute JAWS reads documents using its default Eloquence

Hi Gerald,
David Ferrin was the actual poster of the article on the Blind Computing
list. I thought I had included his name in the post I made to the JFW List.
Never the less, it is a very interestiing article. Take care.

I hope these steps will help someone on this list.
I save the NLS zipped book to my download folder in my documents folder on my
computer.
I have created a folder called NLS books in my documents folder.
Here are the steps that I use below…
1. I open the download folder and do a control+x
Please do not crucify me via cyberspace but a colleague called me a couple of

No. The bad news is that there is no jaws for mac. The good news is
that any recent version of the mac operating system already comes
with the screenreader for mac tied into the operating system. This
native Mac Screenreader is Called Voiceover and has becomeq quite
good. Google for Voiceover
You can run Windows on a mac using VMWare or other programs like it and thus
run Jaws on it. I think some people on these lists actually do that, so
maybe they can give you some input on how the process, performance, etc
works.

Why would anyone run JAWS on a Mac when it already comes with its own screen
reader? All I keep hearing is how wonderful Boice Over is, so running JAWS
on a Mac wouldn't seem to make any sense. I was under the impression that
most Mac users switched because they were unhappy with Windows
Thanks for the information. I know some folks who use the Mac but haven't
tried it.
I am visiting the USA (tampa) for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays
and hope to at least have a go at using it. Started with JAWS in 2000 and
it has worked for me since then.

I switched most stuff over to my mac, because you don't have to set
the op different. VoiceOver will run no matter how you have the op
configured. Being built into the op lets it recover from speech crash
just by turning it off and back on. no rebooting!
Also here is the big plus. When the op

ok, here is some key strokes that will work on any mac to get
VoiceOver working.
If on a iMac or mac pro,
Just do command key + f5 to turn on.
If using a bookPro,
Just do a fn key + command key + f5.
If you do a control + option key +k, turn on keyboard mode like
insert +1 for jaws.
If you do

Now that isn't necessarily true. Voice over is great, and I love that it is
accessible right out of the box, but it has a little ways to go before it
gets where jaws is. Some say this will improve with the release of the Lion
OS system coming out for the mac sometime this month. I run windows
