Re: [JAWS-Users] How to stop Jaws from announcing "super script"

2017-04-11 Thread Kenny
Thanks Mike for these instructions. Was wondering how to turn that
off. Kept having reference to that symbol spoke to me in my Eudora Pro mail.

At 02:07 PM 4/11/2017, you wrote:

Hi Adrian & Mr. Ed,

Try the following:
1. Open the Settings Center, Insert + 6 on the number row, & press, Control,
Shift, + D, to open the Setting Center default all applications. Note: If
you want to stop Jaws from announcing, Super Script, in a particular
application open the Settings Center while in the application without
opening the Settings Center default all applications.
2. Arrow down to, Speech & Sound Schemes, & right arrow to open.
3. Arrow down to, Modify Schemes, & press the spacebar to open. Note:
Do not press enter, pressing enter will close the Settings Center.
4. Tab to, Edit Selected Scheme button, & press the spacebar to open.
5. Control + Tab to the Attributes tab, & Tab 1 time to get into the list of
attributes.
6. Arrow down to, Super Scripts Behavior, Tab 1 time to get into the radio
buttons of options, & arrow up / down to the, Ignore, option.
7. Now tab & you'll have various options as how you want to save this
change. I won't go through the save options because various people will
want to choose how they might want to save their scheme after making a
change.

Take care.

So, to be clear, you use Outlook 2010 both for your bible reading and your
email? How strange, then, that the superscript verbalization was omitted
when you sent a message to the list. I figured you were reading the bible in
a different application. As I tried to explain, in my experience, JAWS
doesn't say "superscript" in Outlook, but it does in Word. Sorry, Ed, I'm
really not trying to give you a hard time, just to understand the problem so
that I or someone else can help.

Hi Again,

Below is a sentence that Jaws announces super script on the April 24 date
below. This is what I am wanting to be able to stop Jaws from announcing in
my Bible reading.

So if you know how I can stop Jaws from announcing this please let me know.

If you want to know how Creators Update is going with screen readers, you
should mark April 24th on your calendars, as Jonathan Mosen (producer of
FSCast) will be talking about Creators Update at Accessible World's Tek Talk
presentation.

a 64 bit computer. I have Windows 7. So now I can't leave Outlook without
Jaws shutting down. I can't go to Documents. I can't go to a link in an
email to something on the internet. I can't go to another program. If I
leave Outlook, Jaws leaves me. The keystrokes for shutting down the computer
don't work. This has happened about five times within the past half hour. I
won't even be able to call FS to get help remotely because I won't be able
to move from where I am to the Jaws menu. I absolutely don't know what to do

Dear friend,
Your version number will let you know if it is creater’s update?
So press win+R type winver and hit enter if it says 17.03, yes it is windows
10 creater’s update.
If it says OS1563.138, you are using the latest creater’s update of windows
10 update!

2017-04-11 Thread Mike B.
Hi Miriam,

Did you use the Jaws updater from within the Jaws program, or did you
download & install the update from the FS website? You could try a system
restore, & see if that'll take you back to before you updated.
Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] How to stop Jaws from announcing "super script"

2017-04-11 Thread Scorpio
It should be worth noting here that the term superscript denotes that there
is a footnote for that particular section, and if it may be an important
footnote, ignoring it may be an incorrect choice in this instance.

Perhaps you may choose to substitute it with another word, such as foot note
or something like that.

A perfect example would be that I have the mouse-over links to say mouse,
instead of on mouse over, or click link instead of clickable link. This
lets me know what kind of link it is, while lessening the amount of verbiage
I get from Jaws.

You can do this following the same instructions as the before e-mail, but
instead of selecting ignore, keep the current selection, but this time, tab
to the edit field and type in what you want Jaws to say when it comes across
those attributes.

This is not meant as a criticism, just a suggestion as some of those
footnotes may not be something you would want to miss.

I would add after shift + tab then arrow right to the attributes tab then

The only other thing I was unsure of after I change the radio button to
ignore then tab and I had choices to add, delete, or modify an then there
was the ok button. I was unsure of what to do on those add, modify or delete
buttons. I click on ok then I got other dialog boxes asking me if I wanted

hope when I shut down and boot up tomorrow the change stays. Any way thanks

part with those add, delete, and modify buttons. Should I have click on one

I think you'll find that those three buttons refer to the fact that you're

Hi Adrian & Mr. Ed,

Try the following:
1. Open the Settings Center, Insert + 6 on the number row, & press, Control,
Shift, + D, to open the Setting Center default all applications. Note: If you
want to stop Jaws from announcing, Super Script, in a particular application
open the Settings Center while in the application without opening the Settings
Center default all applications.
7. Now tab & you'll have various options as how you want to save this change.
I won't go through the save options because various people will want to choose
how they might want to save their scheme after making a change.

Take care.

So, to be clear, you use Outlook 2010 both for your bible reading and your
email? How strange, then, that the superscript verbalization was omitted when
you sent a message to the list. I figured you were reading the bible in

a different application. As I tried to explain, in my experience, JAWS doesn't
say "superscript" in Outlook, but it does in Word. Sorry, Ed, I'm really not
trying to give you a hard time, just to understand the problem so

that I or someone else can help.

Hi Mr. Ed,

>From what you said it sounds like you got the Speech Scheme changed to the

use the, Classic scheme, & if I modify it, the name will change to, Classic

Mike,

Are you saying you don't get the concept or you've tried it and it doesn't
work? Jim suggests what I often do when I don't like the way JAWS is reading
something. I copy the text, in this case of an email, into Notepad. What I
do then is copy that Notepad text into MS word. But you could just read it
in Notepad. Call it a workaround. Now, I haven't tested Jim's idea with
anything that has a superscript because I can't think of a text that's given
me that trouble lately.

2017-04-11 Thread Jim Flusche
Hi group. Using the latest Jaws 18 update of today. There are now Changes in
the way Jaws speaks in the settings area of W-10.

  1. Now after pressing Windows key+I, you land in the search edit box, if you
type something to look for, just press the down arrow key to see a list of
results.
  2. The settings area now reads correctly with Jaws as you tab through all
the controls, you will just hear the current control and its settings.
  3. Tip, you must now use the touch curser to hear, you computer is up to
date, last checked, bla, bla.
  4. Because they finally fixed Jaws 18 to correctly read the settings area,
you must now use the touch curser to hear the status.
Remember to use the touch curser, to use the touch cursor, press Shift+PC
cursor, on the num pad, press the PC cursor two times quickly to go back to the
regular PC cursor. I hope this helps you all. Smiles.

Hi Adrian,
I get a daily Bible reading by email and that is where it says super script
before and after every verse number. So I am wondering if there is a way to
stop this from happening. I know I could stop Jaws from announcing "blank"
by going into the settings center as by Mike B. instructions. I looked

from announcing it. Maybe I missed something and someone has an idea how I
can stop Jaws from announcing super script before and after every number in

So, to be clear, you use Outlook 2010 both for your bible reading and your

when you sent a message to the list. I figured you were reading the bible in
a different application. As I tried to explain, in my experience, JAWS

7. Now tab & you'll have various options as how you want to save this
change. I won't go through the save options because various people will
want to choose how they might want to save their scheme after making a
change.

Take care.

[JAWS-Users] J18.0.2738 Update Download Links & What's New

2017-04-11 Thread Mike B.
Hi All,

This is the April update for Jaws 18. The 32 & 64 bit download links plus
what's new in this build are below.

32 Bit:

http://jaws18.vfo.digital/2738MJ100T/J18.0.2738enu-x86.exe

64 Bit:

http://jaws18.vfo.digital/2738MJ100T/J18.0.2738enu-x64.exe

What's new in this build:
The following is a list of improvements made between the JAWS 18 February
2017 release and the April 2017 update.

JAWS
list of 7 items
. A customer reported that Krzysztof was missing from the Vocalizer
Expressive 2.2 Polish compact voices collection. This has been resolved and
the updated
voice collection can be downloaded from the
Synthesizer Downloads
 web page.
. Resolved an issue where the Weather Research It lookup source was not
displaying any results.
. The JAWS Audio Ducking feature, which lowers the volume of other apps
while JAWS is speaking, is currently disabled in the Windows 10 Creators
update
due to issues with JAWS not ducking audio as expected in some situations. We
are continuing to work with Microsoft and plan on having Audio Ducking
available
again in a future update of JAWS, as soon as the necessary changes happen in
an update of Windows 10.
. When focused in the Book Page View of the Kindle for PC app, pressing
INSERT+F1 now displays an appropriate help message.
. This update includes updated drivers for the Alva BC6 braille displays
from Optelec.
. Resolved an issue in both WordPad and Word where JAWS was not reading the
prompt to save changes when pressing ALT+F4 to close the app and the current
document had not yet been saved.
. Addressed an issue where JAWS was not reading the results when searching
from the Windows 8.1 Start screen.
list end

Google Docs
list of 10 items
. Pressing the INSERT+F8 keystroke in Google Drive or Google Docs now
displays a list of the controls on the toolbar. Use the UP or DOWN ARROWS to
select
the control you want to use and then press ENTER or choose OK to activate
it. Choose the Move To button to move focus to the selected control on the
page.
Note that using this command in Internet Explorer may not display all
available toolbar controls due to limitations with this browser.
. You can now use the JAWS Text Analyzer feature to locate errors in Google
documents such as unmatched parentheses, unintentional format changes, extra
whitespace, and stray or unspaced punctuation. When focused in the document
area in Google Docs, press ALT+WINDOWS+I or ALT+WINDOWS+SHIFT+I to move to
the next or previous inconsistency in the document. To have JAWS announce
inconsistencies as you navigate with the ARROW keys or Say All (INSERT+DOWN
ARROW),
press INSERT+SPACEBAR, followed by A.
. Improved JAWS support for the Google Docs spell checker. When focused in
the Spellcheck dialog box, pressing INSERT+F7 now speaks and spells the
current
suggestion, and also reads the spelling error in context.
. Pressing INSERT+PAGE DOWN while focused in the Google Docs document now
reads the activity status such as "online" or "offline."
. If a Google document contains comments, you can now press CTRL+INSERT+M to
read the comment at the cursor location. In addition, JAWS support for the
Comment Stream Box (ALT+CTRL+SHIFT+A) which allows you to manage comments,
has been improved. Note that JAWS support for comments works best with

[JAWS-Users] Problem resuming editing of a document in Microsoft Word 2016 after closing spelling checker dialogue

2017-04-11 Thread Jason White
Has anyone else experienced an inability to navigate and read a document with
arrow keys in Microsoft Word 2016 after closing the spelling checker (i.e.,
using the "ok" button to close it)?

I can reliably reproduce this bug every time, and the latest update
(18.0.2738) didn't fix it, so I'm wondering whether others can reproduce.

I'm running Microsoft Office 32-bit from the stable channel of Office365 with
all updates applied.

Regards,

Jason.

Messages are normally posted quite quickly by the server, often within a
matter of minutes or less. This goes for people like yourself who are not on
moderated status. All new members are automatically placed there for your
protection. Once they post enough for us to accept that they are here for
the right reasons or we know who they happen to be then we set them to
normal posting status.

The fact is whatever speed the server posts is beyond my ability to modify.

Hi Adrian,
I am just saying the way Jaws announces it when the keystroke is used.
The term "key describer" was mentioned, and I pointed out that is the way it
is announced in Openbook.
For some people, if it is not announced the way it is stated in
instructional material, they are in doubt as to whether or not they have
done the right thing.
Not trying to be argumentative here,, but it is the best practice to use the
terminology used by the software developer, especially when not everyone has
the same skill or comprehension levels.

Hi, Rick.

I'm not sure why there would be any confusion, considering that the query
was about JAWS, not Openbook. Also, while FS does use the term "keyboard
help," it's an ambiguous phrase. Help from the keyboard? Help for the
keyboard? Help about the keyboard? I wouldn't have a clue.
"Key identifier" is much more descriptive and specific, and it is used by
other JAWS training websites. See, for example,

To avoid confusion, the correct name of this function is:
Keyboard Help

Key describer is the term used in OpenBook for the same function, but
different keystroke.

Helga:

It sounds like you are in key describer mode.

To get out of it, hit the Jaws or insert key and the number 1.

This is how key describer mode is toggled on and off.

[JAWS-Users] How to stop Jaws from announcing "super script"

2017-04-11 Thread Mr. Ed

[JAWS-Users] How to stop Jaws from saying "super scrip"

2017-04-11 Thread Mr. Ed
Hi All,

When I am reading my Bible Jaws announces "super scrip" is what I think it
is saying. It announces this right before each number for the scripture
verse and right after the scripter verse number. I went into settings but
could not find where I could disable this. Does anyone have any idea how I
could stop Jaws from announces this before and after each scripture verse?

Hi Adrian,
I am just saying the way Jaws announces it when the keystroke is used.

I have not noticed anything needing to be reset. Granted I have not checked
everything as of yet, but so far all is as it was.

My question is what did all of this accomplish? My wife says the start menu

trying to figure out the results. Honestly I have been so busy putting it in
that only today will I get the chance I hope to see what has happened.
