Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS not copying text from a web-site.

2017-06-27 Thread Scorpio

Hi Mike,

Not sure if you checked this or not, but have you made sure that Jaws is set
to copy from the virtual cursor, and not the on-screen highlight?

This setting sometimes gets switched arbitrarily, sometimes without the user
knowing. Admittedly, this has not happened to me in some time, but it might
have happened to you.

You can check this by pressing Jaws key+V, to go to the verbosity options,
and using your arrow keys to arrow down to "Virtual Cursor Options". If the
tree is not expanded, arrow to the right, and down arrow to select and copy.
There are two options, it should be set to copy from the virtual cursor.
Press the spacebar to make the change.

Hi Mike,
Sometimes the verbosity settings prevent JAWS from saying messages like
“Copied selection to clipboard,” but you say that the text is not actually
copied.
If sighted users can copy the text normally, try to press INSERT+3 before
pressing CTRL+C. This prior command will pass the next keystroke (in this
case CTRL+C) directly to the active application as if JAWS were not loaded,
which allows you to determine wetter or not the issue is caused by
assignments in JAWS key map files. If the text is copied correctly by doing
that, check that the CTRL+C keystroke in Default.jkm is assigned to the
CopySelectedTextToClipboard script; if not, assign CTRL+C to this script by
using the JAWS Keyboard Manager.

Good morning all! Using the latest version of JAWS 18, (Build 2945), I'm
encountering an issue when trying to copy text from a web page into a word
document. I am able to highlight the text, but unable to copy and paste it

Why is this happening?

Re: [JAWS-Users] sound issue

2017-06-27 Thread Fernando Gregoire
Hi Sugar,
Regarding general Windows sounds like the one played when Outlook ask for
permanently deletion of deleted items or the default beep which JAWS plays at
the top of a document, you may have system sounds muted.
In Windows 7, in the context menu for the volume icon, go to Open Volume Mixer
to open this utility. In the Volume Mixer window, tab to the Volume for System
Sounds slider and, in addition to check that the volume is in an audible level,
make sure the muting button which you can reach by tabbing once more is not
pressed. If this particular volume is muted, press the button to unmute it.
For some sounds made by Office programs, like the ones Outlook make when
sending or deleting messages or Word when saving or auto-correcting, you need
an add-on called Office Sounds which is not installed by default. To easily get
it, in Word, go to the File tab and then to the Help tab. In the Help tab, find
and activate the Options button.
In the Categories list box, go to Advanced and, using the TAB key, find and
check the Provide Feedback with Sound checkbox and press ENTER to save the
change. If the add-on is not installed, you'll get a prompt to go to the Office
website to download it.
In this website, you only have to follow the instructions to download the file
and then install it as any other program; when finished, the Sounds Control
Panel applet will have a new sounds category called Microsoft Office, which
will allow to customize Office sounds in sound schemes as any other Windows
sound. Unlike in other languages such as Spanish were the add-on was not
updated to be compatible with newer Office versions, you will not need to catch
the temporarily generated MSI nor modify the Registry to complete the
installation of the add-on in English. But even if you have a localized Office
installation, you can use the English add-on without any issue; the only
relevant difference is that names of Office sound events in the Sounds dialog
will be displayed in English.

Hope it helps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Using Adobe Acrobat DC

2017-06-27 Thread Fernando Gregoire
Hi Scorpio,
Sometimes when going to the next page in long documents, especially on slow
computers, JAWS does not reactivate the Virtual Cursor and simply speaks the
reading window as “AppPageView.” Since Adobe Reader supports using arrow keys
and HOME/END to move between pages, if you try to move in this situation you'll
change your position in the document.
When this is happening frequently on a given document, after I press CTRL+PAGE
DOWN to go to the next page and after pressing CTRL+HOME I find that the
Virtual Cursor was not reactivated, I press F6 to move to the next panel and
then SHIFT+F6. This forces a FocusChangedEvent to be fired and, in facts, JAWS
recognizes this area and reactivates the Virtual Cursor.

Hi Folks,

Just learning to work with Adobe Acrobat DC, and am a bit stifled at being able
to read documents, particularly long ones.

It would seem that jaws will get stuck on certain patches of text, but when I
do a say all command, it’s able to pass by that text and continue reading.

I also find it jumping from one page to the next, mostly when I try to re-read
a line or some other part of the text. This tends to happen most when I’m
using the arrow keys to go through the document one line at a time.

Does anyone have any tips or maybe some suggestions on how I should set this
program to better read PDF documents with Jaws.

I’m using Adobe Acrobat DC, 2015, Windows 10, Anniversary Build, not the
creator’s build, Jaws 18, latest build.

I can’t say if it happens with all screen reader, and it’s too late to discover
if it does at this point, but if I find out more, I’ll write in and let
everyone know.

Thanks for any advice.

Try pressing JAWS key+v for the JAWS quick settings center, then arrowing down
a few times to "Select and copy full content."
(YOU can also get here by typing "virtual" in the edit field that appears on
opening this center.) Press spacebar to change the setting to "Select and copy
from virtual cursor" and tab to Okay. You will lose attributes, links, etc.,
but with this setting, JAWS almost always copies the text you've selected.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Winamp

2017-06-27 Thread Scorpio

I'm getting confused...

What exactly are you trying to do?

Are you trying to play a song from your library using the library pane of
Winamp?

If this is the case, then you should use the enter key, not the spacebar.

It's similar to iTunes.

You can arrow up and down the library, but until you press enter on the
selection, the track won't play, though when you press the spacebar, it will
keep playing the previous track you had loaded in Winamp.

I'm also interested in why you are using the Winamp Library?

I find it very difficult to use, though I don't know if scripts have been
created for the Winamp Library feature. Having said that though, I simply
use File Explorer to manage my audio tracks.

Since I have no sight, I don't bother with cover art, or anything like that,
I simply manage the audio tracks as files.

Regardless, Winamp won't stop working, simply because it's not being
developed, there simply won't be any support or updates, so you'll have to
get your support or help from online sources, or lists like these.

Perhaps you could explain in finer detail what it is you're trying to
accomplish, and how you're going about trying to achieve this.

not in the library window. Also, as I said in an earlier post, Alt 1 through

Re: [JAWS-Users] Winamp

2017-06-27 Thread JM Casey
Successfully using Winamp on Windows 10 with JAWS 18 here. Thought I would have
some issues at first but it still works like a charm, mostly, though I've had
to change the way I use it a bit, since Windows plays much nicer if you use its
context menus rather than working exclusively in the playlist editor as I used
to. Not sure about your spacebar issue. I know this is an old hat kin dof
answer, but the few times Winamp has started acting strange on me, a reinstall
has always fixed whatever issue I was having.

Winamp is still a disaster. Every time I press the spacebar the song I last
played starts playing. I would expect this behavior in the main Windows, but
not in the library window. Also, as I said in an earlier post, Alt 1 through
Alt 0 will read the column headers in Window-Eyes. I believe Alt+3 opens the
Data editor. I’ll be using Window-Eyes until it breaks or until you JAWS users
can come up with some better solutions. I know, I know, Winamp is supposed to
be broken soon, too.

[JAWS-Users] Any luck registering for Super Shuttle site?

2017-06-27 Thread Nathaniel Kile
Has anyone had luck registering for this site?
https://booking.supershuttle.com/login

It is the shuttle from the airport to the Shingle creek. I can get it done,
but I am wondering if anyone has done it on a PC with a screen reader. I had
two students try today and both were not successful.

I would absolutely send an email and call them. I would do this however I
don't have the product.

Yes I could. It read it in the lowest voice possible, and it is a bit mumbly.
Also, I cannot maximize the Vipre Screen. I believe it said JAWS cursor, but
the voice is different from the JAWS cursor's default. I'm not worrying about
that for now. The main point is that I can read the information I need. My scan
took a good 7 or 8 hours. I checked it later, and it was completed. It makes me
feel better about purchasing Vipre. I am still considering sending Vipre an
E-mail recommending that they improve this to the point that no OCR function
would be necessary.

Could you read what you were trying to read?

\\I just got around to trying this. The OCR does help. I tried
Insert+Spacebar followed by W and then by S. While may be not perfect,
Insert+the
results are very helpful. Thanks for the suggestion.

Have you tried Convenient OCR on that screen, Tom? Lots of times, it will read
things that other times is invisible.
Try Insert-Space, then O then W and see if it gives you the scanning progress
dialog.

I have no issues with winamp and Jaws. Have you looked at the help file?

Winamp is still a disaster. Every time I press the spacebar the song I last
played starts playing. I would expect this behavior in the main Windows, but
not in the library window. Also, as I said in an earlier post, Alt 1 through
Alt 0 will read the column headers in Window-Eyes. I believe Alt+3 opens the
Data editor. I’ll be using Window-Eyes until it breaks or until you JAWS users
can come up with some better solutions. I know, I know, Winamp is supposed to
be broken soon, too.
