I really like Chrome, but found that it does not work well in accessing some
pages like the m.facebook.com.

I am definitely going to keep your e-mail, though.

Thanks very much.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] An Updated Text Tutorial on Using the Google Chrome
Browser with JAWS or NVDA

Hi all,
I did an Updated text tutorial on using the Google Chrome browser. It is
pasted right here in this email, so you can read it, and give me feedback.
On each line, I tell you what my computer says as I take you through the
Google Chrome menu, and I take you carefully through the settings web page.
This is a lot like the Options page in Firefox, but it is easier to
navigate.
I hope this really helps you get started with Chrome, because it works so
well for me.
Here is the tutorial right below!
Tutorial for Using the Google Chrome Browser By David Moore This tutorial
will be done with the latest update of Chrome.
I will also use JAWS 18 and NVDA 2017.2for this tutorial, because they both
work the same in Chrome.
Finally, I will use Windows 10 Creators Update latest public build.
I will assume that you have downloaded and installed Chrome.
There should be a shortcut on your desktop.
First, I will launch Chrome. We will not create a home page until we get to
the Chrome settings web page.
This is a lot like the Options page in Firefox, or the Options dialog in IE.
Pressing the Alt key, opens the one and only, Chrome menu, with many choices
that I will arrow down through.
The first very important step, is to press Windows+up arrow to maximise the
window. Chrome often opens with the window not maximise, and you will get
undesirable results.
I will press the Alt key.
The Chrome menu is open.
I will press insert+up arrow to hear the first option in this menu.
New Tab, CTRL+T.
You can press that command right from the web site you are on.
New Window, CTRL+N
You can press these commands right from your web page, instead of coming
here.
New incognito Window.
History sub menu.
I will press right arrow here to see what is in this sub menu!
History, CTRL+H
So, there is a key command for reading your history.
You can read a few sites you were on right here.
I will press left arrow to close this history sub menu.
Downloads, CTRL+J
There is the command for opening your downloads you have downloaded with
Chrome.
Next, the important Bookmarks sub menu.
I will press right arrow, to open this.
I hear, bookmark this page, CTRL+D
That command will bookmark the page you are reading.
Next down arrow, says show bookmarks bar, CTRL+Shift+B That command, will
show your bookmarks on your Chrome browser for all to see. I do not want
that.
Here is the important one.
manage bookmarks
The command is, CTRL+Shift+O
In here, you can organize your bookmarks into folders, see the bookmarks you
have imported from different browsers, and very importantly, you can
download, to your computer, an HTML file of all of your bookmarks in Chrome.
On your computer, you can press enter on this file, after it downloads, and
a page will show up in Chrome with a list of all bookmarks you have saved in
Chrome. This is an awesome way to download all of your bookmarks right to
your computer, so you can back them up.
That is all for manage bookmarks.
Next, I hear import bookmarks and settings.
press enter on this, and you can import all bookmarks and settings from IE,
and Firefox, right into Google Chrome, and they will be in their
corresponding folders.
Now, I hear all of my saved bookmarks as I continue to arrow down.
Very important!
Sometimes, when I open that bookmarks sub menu, I do not land on the choices
I mension here, but instead, I start hearing my saved bookmarks. If this
happens, I press up arrow a few times, and it gets me to these choices.
Keep in mind, that many of these choices, like bookmark manager, have key
commands, so you do not have to come to this bookmarks sub menu at all. You
only need to come here most of the time, to arrow through your saved
bookmarks, and enter on the desired one.
The next few are very self explanatory.
The next one I will mension, is the more tools submenu.
I will press right arrow on this.
I hear Save Page as, and the command, CTRL+S.
Next, Save to desktop.
This allows you to save the favorite of the page right to your desktop. This
is how you do this in Chrome, instead of doing this in the file menu in IE.
It is hidden under this more tools submenu.
Clear Browsing data, and there is the key command, CTRL+Shift+Delete key.

2017-07-06 Thread Mike B.
Hi Leonard,

Try the following:
When you are in firefox, use the keystroke, Control, Shift, + B. This opens
the
library window.
Open the menus. They are different from those in the main program.
Right arrow until you get to import and backup. It will either say that or
something very similar.
Down arrow until you get to import from another browser.
Press enter and work through the wizard.

Once you are finished, close the library window with alt f4. You will be
back in the Firefox main window.

Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

[JAWS-Users] An Updated Text Tutorial on Using the Google Chrome Browser with JAWS or NVDA

2017-07-06 Thread David Moore
Hi all,
I did an Updated text tutorial on using the Google Chrome browser. It is pasted
right here in this email, so you can read it, and give me feedback.
On each line, I tell you what my computer says as I take you through the Google
Chrome menu, and I take you carefully through the settings web page.
This is a lot like the Options page in Firefox, but it is easier to navigate.
I hope this really helps you get started with Chrome, because it works so well
for me.
Here is the tutorial right below!
Tutorial for Using the Google Chrome Browser
By David Moore
This tutorial will be done with the latest update of Chrome.
We will not create a home page until we get to the
Chrome settings web page.
You can press these commands right from your web page, instead of coming here.
There is the command for opening your downloads you have downloaded with Chrome.
Next, the important Bookmarks sub menu.
I will press right arrow, to open this.
I hear, bookmark this page, CTRL+D
That command will bookmark the page you are reading.
Next down arrow, says show bookmarks bar, CTRL+Shift+B
That command, will show your bookmarks on your Chrome browser for all to see. I
do not want that.
Here is the important one.
manage bookmarks
The command is, CTRL+Shift+O
In here, you can organize your bookmarks into folders, see the bookmarks you
have imported from different browsers, and very importantly, you can download,
to your computer, an HTML file of all of your bookmarks in Chrome.
On your computer, you can press enter on this file, after it downloads, and a
page will show up in Chrome with a list of all bookmarks you have saved in
Chrome. This is an awesome way to download all of your bookmarks right to your
computer, so you can back them up.
That is all for manage bookmarks.
Next, I hear import bookmarks and settings.
press enter on this, and you can import all bookmarks and settings from IE, and
Firefox, right into Google Chrome, and they will be in their corresponding
folders.
Now, I hear all of my saved bookmarks as I continue to arrow down.
Very important!
Sometimes, when I open that bookmarks sub menu, I do not land on the choices I
mension here, but instead, I start hearing my saved bookmarks. If this happens,
I press up arrow a few times, and it gets me to these choices.
Keep in mind, that many of these choices, like bookmark manager, have key
commands, so you do not have to come to this bookmarks sub menu at all. You
only need to come here most of the time, to arrow through your saved bookmarks,
and enter on the desired one.
The next few are very self explanatory.
The next one I will mension, is the more tools submenu.
I will press right arrow on this.
I hear Save Page as, and the command, CTRL+S.
Next, Save to desktop.
This allows you to save the favorite of the page right to your desktop. This is
how you do this in Chrome, instead of doing this in the file menu in IE.
It is hidden under this more tools submenu.
Clear Browsing data, and there is the key command, CTRL+Shift+Delete key.

These are the same as add ons, in IE.
They are called Extensions in Chrome.
The last two that I will mention, are settings, and the help sub menu.
Now, we will press enter on settings, and a web like page will open where the
virtual cursor will turn on with JAWS, and NVDA will be in Brows mode.
First, on this page, there is an edit field to search for a setting to change.
You can simply press enter to get into forms mode with JAWS or focus mode with
NVDA, and sign into Chrome with your email and password associated with your
Google Account.
This is very accessible now; a year ago, it was not.
Now, you can press enter on sync.
There is a combo box here, and I chose to sync everything that I

I know this is a rather odd request, but for some reason SBC Global is

The problem is Judy Jones is not receiving list mail and wrote to me
privately for help, but when I wrote back her ISP rejected my message.

So if anybody out there knows her please let her know what is going on. Her

This happens quite often as this domain generates a large amount of email
and some times gets flagged as a source of Spam. Thank you to who ever does
this.

People have to contact their ISPs and explain the problem although many of
them simply deny that they are doing such a thing. A large number of list

Adrian:

To summarize where I am so far with the hyperlinks issue, it now looks like
your suggested strategy for creating and opening hyperlinks in an e-mail do
work.

Not sure why the change from the other day.

I also successfully used the control K command to force the creation of a
hyperlink in an e-mail, and that seems to have worked as well.

Not sure what has changed, other than the fact that I confirmed the
suggested settings for reading e-mail in non-text format, and composing
e-mail in HTML format.

I'll keep these instructions for future reference.

Thanks to all for your patience with this issue.

I'm not sure how and why things sometimes change in Outlook settings.

Tom,

Try one method for creating links and another for clicking on links, as
follows:

When adding a link to a message, be sure to press the return key right after
the link's last character. I believe Miriam made this suggestion yesterday,
and I've been doing it for a long time. Links are not shown as links without
the return character at the end.

When trying to open a link, right-arrow over the link's first character
before pressing enter. I've found that Outlook fluctuates between this extra
step being needed and not needed, though why it should be is beyond me.

Separately, I'd be interested to know if Fernando's suggestion works for
you. I hope you'll post the result.

Here is how to check on the format that your Outlook is using when creating
email and how to change it if you want. I believe it also changes how
incoming messages are displayed, but I can't confirm that.
In outlook go to the File menu by pressing Alt _+ f.
Arrow down to options and press Enter.
Arrow down to Mail and press tab
Arrow Down once and you will find a combo box that displays what format
Outlook is currently using to compose messages.
Arrow down in the combo box and three buttons will be available. They are
plain text, Rich Text and HTML Arrow down to the format and press the enter
key on the button of the format you want To confirm this change, you need to
press the OK button at the very bottom of this list. You are still in a very

Hello Tom,

You might want to check your Email security settings in trust center. Use Alt
with F followed by T to open options. When in the list of categories use the
end key to move to the trust center. Tab to and use the trust center settings
button. Use up or down arrow key and find the Mail Security item. Tab and
make sure the checkbox "Read all standard mail in plain text" is not checked.
If it is then use spacebar to uncheck the checkbox and use the OK button.

When you go into options find the mail category and make sure that HTML is
chosen for "Compose messages in this format." Make sure when you are composing
a message that under the Format Text tab HTML is chosen for the format.

It use to be that when replying to a message sent using the plain text format
that Outlook would only let you reply using the plain text format. I am not
sure if that is still the same.

Take care.

Hi Tom,
You say that your e-mail is in HTML format; you can easily check hyperlinks
functionality by pressing CTRL+K.
If this dialog box works, your problem is that the Auto-Format as You Type
feature is not converting URLs into hyperlinks.
To turn it back on so links are generated when pressing ENTER after typing an
URL, go to File, Options. Select the Mail category, tab to the Spelling and
Auto-Correct button.
In the new dialog, tab to the Auto-Correct options and press it. Press CTRL+TAB
until you reach the Auto-Format as You Type tab.
In this tab, find and check the “Network and Internet paths as hyperlinks”
option and press OK repeatedly until you reach to the Outlook main window.

I think this will be fix for your problem.

Hi Tom,
You should test the CTRL+K keystroke from withing the message body edit box. If
hyperlinks inserted from within this dialog work, the problem is exclusively
Outlook-related. If not, you might need to check wetter IE is working properly,
even if it is not your default browser, as the infrastructure for showing

member, John O'Regan, which I didn't know was a member of this list in hopes
someone could provide an answer for him. John has now asked this list in a
different way, but I'm sure the answer Tom provided will be read by him, &
certainly hope it will solve the problem for the person John is trying to
help. Thanks again.

Hi Mike B , if you are familiar with the script manager you can make this
change.
Open the script manager, open the default script with control shift D

Look for Script SaySystemTime ()
You need to remove a few lines. Rather than removing the lines you can
comment them out by placing a ; at the beginning of the line

Script SaySystemTime ()
var
string sTimeOrDate
if GetRunningFSProducts() == product_MAGic
&& IsSpeechOff() then
ExMessageBox(FormatString(cMsgGetSysTimeAndDate,SysGetTime(),SysGetDate()),
cscNull,MB_ICONINFORMATION)
return
endIf
;If (IsSameScript ()) then
Let sTimeOrDate = FormatString (cmsgGetSysDate, SysGetDate ())
SayUsingVoice ( VCTX_MESSAGE, sTimeOrDate, ot_user_requested_information)
;Else
Let sTimeOrDate = FormatString (cmsgGetSysTime, SysGetTime ())
;endIf
SayUsingVoice ( VCTX_MESSAGE, sTimeOrDate, ot_user_requested_information)
EndScript

Then copy the line
SayUsingVoice ( VCTX_MESSAGE, sTimeOrDate, ot_user_requested_information)

And insert it just after
Let sTimeOrDate = FormatString (cmsgGetSysDate, SysGetDate ())

Compile the script with JawsKey S

Hi All,

Is there any way to modify the, Jaws key + F12, keystroke / script so that
it will say both the time & date when press ing it just 1 time. This is for
a 1 handed child, & turning on Insert key mode only works for 1 press of the
Insert / Jaws key, not if you need to press it twice to get the date. All
help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS issue with Outlook 2016

2017-07-06 Thread Mike Mote
Good afternoon all!

For some reason, whenever I have to change my exchange account password, in
Outlook, JAWS will not show me the Outlook credentials box. It does show it
visually, and if someone who is sighted is here, they can clearly see it.
They can put my mouse on the password field, and then JAWS will announce it
properly. If I don't have someone with sight around, all I hear, is
"Outlook credentials not responding", which is an odd message to me. I'm
wondering if anyone else has had this issue before, and how did you resolve
it.

Re: [JAWS-Users] How can I lock the JAWS key?

2017-07-06 Thread John O'Regan
Hello Again,

Thanks to everyone for their replies. Remapping the date function to
the Pause key is the best solution I've heard so far, imho.

But I'm afraid I've unintentionally misled you. My question was meant
to be more generic. Holding down the Ins key while pressing F12 twice
quickly was just an example.

How would my hypothetical one-handed typist who can only press one key
at a time press the Ins key and press T twice quickly in help mode
(Ins+1) to hear extended help for the Say Title keystroke, for
instance?

Icymi, in the latest release of NVDA it is now possible to lock the
NVDA key by pressing it twice, if Sticky Keys are enabled.

BFN!

John

2017-07-06 Thread Michael Massey
Hi, David. Thank you for posting your message strongly suggesting that Jaws
users should not try to modify the scripts or apps or whatever they're
called, that is, unless you know what you're doing, smile.I would like
to have the Jaws key combination to check the time and date to work when
pressed one time as opposed to pressing the key combination twice. Yeah, I
am spoiled because when I had Window-eyes installed, I could press the key
combination only once. Nothing against you personally, Mike B., but I am
not about to try to modify scripts to accomplish tasks. However, I do hope
the link provided will help me add scripts for such programs as Winamp and
any other programs that could use scripts to make them work better with
Jaws.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws Reporting Time & Date

2017-07-06 Thread David Ferrin
If I might jump in here to hopefully do justice to your question. The my
extensions file concept arose when as it happened folks were modifying the
default script file and then an update in JAWS changed that file causing
unwelcome results.

So if we stick to modifying the extensions file which is a sub program to
the default script file in short nothing they do will effect our side and
the same goes for the other way around.

Also from version to version the my extensions script just gets passed along
in the hopes of a smoother transition.

IfIsSameKey in order to read the date, and this becomes an issue for anyone
who has to use Sticky keys which is what generated the question. The script
change that was proposed on the list, was exactly the correct solution to

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws Reporting Time & Date

2017-07-06 Thread David Ferrin
Like I said before remember these days it is better to use the my extensions
file instead of modifying the default script file so what we do does not
mess up anything FS might do in the future.

Hi tom, David, Randy Wayne Eric, & steve,

Thank you all very much for your input. I was asking for a now fellow
member, John O'Regan, which I didn't know was a member of this list in hopes
someone could provide an answer for him.

Script SaySystemTime ()
var
string sTimeOrDate
if GetRunningFSProducts() == product_MAGic
&& IsSpeechOff() then
ExMessageBox(FormatString(cMsgGetSysTimeAndDate,SysGetTime(),SysGetDate()),
cscNull,MB_ICONINFORMATION)
return
endIf
;If (IsSameScript ()) then
Let sTimeOrDate = FormatString (cmsgGetSysDate, SysGetDate ())
SayUsingVoice ( VCTX_MESSAGE, sTimeOrDate, ot_user_requested_information)
;Else
Let sTimeOrDate = FormatString (cmsgGetSysTime, SysGetTime ())
;endIf
SayUsingVoice ( VCTX_MESSAGE, sTimeOrDate, ot_user_requested_information)
EndScript

Then copy the line
SayUsingVoice ( VCTX_MESSAGE, sTimeOrDate, ot_user_requested_information)

And insert it just after
Let sTimeOrDate = FormatString (cmsgGetSysDate, SysGetDate ())

Compile the script with JawsKey S

Hi All,

Is there any way to modify the, Jaws key + F12, keystroke / script so that
it will say both the time & date when press ing it just 1 time. This is for
a 1 handed child, & turning on Insert key mode only works for 1 press of the
Insert / Jaws key, not if you need to press it twice to get the date. All
help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

Hi David,

I did look on the scripts page, but apparently I didn'tknow what I was
looking for because I didn't find it. If you don't mind, would you post the
link for it? The person I was asking the question on behalf of, I now
noticed is a member of the list, & he can take a look at it.

Yes, in fact the script you are asking for has been on the server for
several years already if memory serves.

Is this person accustomed to modifying script files? If not get somebody who
is I strongly advise.

Hi, yes, you can do this easily.
If you have JAWS running from system tray, press insert J; if not, bring up the
jaws menue from the jaws window.
Press U for utilities and O for Sound Card, which is a submenu. There you can
select which sound card you want JAWS to go through.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS And Multiple Sound Devices

Hi friends,

I normally use my laptop here connected to a Bose bluetooth speaker for when I
listen to music.
When JAWS uses this device, it is a bit choppy, i think due to the fact that it
is transmitting the speach to the Bluetooth device and when a acket is sent, it
switches off and has to re-start with the new sound.
Is there a way with JAWS that I can tell it to use a different sound device
e.g. use the laptop to play my music through the Bluetooth speaker and have
JAWS runnig through the internal sound card.

Many thanks in anticipation for any help.

You will want to go to the help menu. Press enter and go down to the Quickstart
Wizzard. You will tab through two screens of information. On the third screen
you will select keyboard layout and arrow down to laptop layout. Go through the
rest of the screens and find finish. That should take care of it for you.

that particular message and can re-post it.

use the most.

Many thanks in anticipation,
