resolve this by using Touch Cursor with Advanced Object Navigation Mode to
find the Logon screen window and, beneat it, the Password edit box. When I
find it, I press ENTER to route PC cursor as normal.

 Hi

The tutorial on Partition Assistant says that the home edition is free to
use on 32 bit Windows. But it looks like the home edition has been replaced
by a "standard" edition. The standard edition of Partition Assistant is
free for both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Windows. It looks like you can
use it with JAWS by following the steps in the tutorial.

When transferring a word document from one computer to another, the computer

Hi All,
For all of you that are having issues with IE. I would recommend to reset IE. I
would give this a try and see if it works. Here are the instructions below to
reset IE 11.
How to reset IE 11:
I would recommend re setting IE. Here are the steps to do that.
1. Open IE
2. Press alt + T for tools menu.
3. Press up arrow once and you should be on options. Press the enter key.
4. Press shift + Tab and you should hear General.
5. Press the right arrow key until you hear advance.
6. Tab until you hear reset button.
7. Press enter on the reset button.
8. A dialog box will come up. Press tab once and you will hear something about
checking this box to delete personal information. Press the
spacebar here to check this check box.
9. Tab twice to the reset button and press the spacebar.
Wait a few minutes then close IE and reopen it. Now it should work like new.
Note checking the box about removing personal information will not remove your
favorites in IE.

Just to add to this, I have the same issue with Jaws 16 through 18 on a Win
7 Ultimate system.

It invariably seems to correlate to the use of IE 11. It is not duplicatable,
but it does happen with enough consistency that there's got to be a bug
somewhere in the program.

When it happens, if I can get Jaws to stumble-and-bumble to the process
manager, I can close IE and reload Jaws. Oftentimes, Jaws is so sluggish i.e.
not quite non-responsive -- that I end up loading System Access to go and close
IE11 and Jaws. Then, I can re-load Jaws and its happy.

If I use a competitive screen-reader, I've not encountered these issues.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Using Chat Windows with JAWS 18

2017-07-19 Thread Fernando Gregoire
Like two antivirus softwares, as any other screen reader, JAWS and Narrator
can't be run together, unless you configure JAWS into Sleep Mode in the JCF for
the chat application.
Specifically, is the chat application Microsoft Skype for Business or Lync? If
so, Dough Lee, which is the author of the well known JAWS scripts for Skype
better than the ones built into JAWS, made scripts for SFB/Lync too, which
you'll have interest to test.

Hi List,

We're starting to use a phone system at work that includes chat capability.
I'm new to Windows 10 and to JAWS so struggling a little to keep up.

Since apparently I'm supposed to be able to listen to JAWS and the TTS at the
same time, if I'm focusing on JAWS when a chat message comes in and is spoken
by the TTS, is there a way to have the message reread so I can hear what I
missed the first time?

Are there any command conflicts between JAWS and Narrator if they have to both
run at the same time?

Hope that makes sense.

Nancy

Assistant Standard. I haven't used it in a while, but the last time I used
it on Windows 7, it was accessable, although you needed to use the JAWS
cursor quite a bit.

[JAWS-Users] Proboem with outlook 2013 and jaws 18 on windows ten

2017-07-19 Thread Brian Zolo
Good afternoon, folks, Brian Zolo here from Gahanna, Ohio. I'm using jaws
18 on windows ten at work in conjunction with outlook 2013 and one
disconcerting thing I've noticed is that when trying to add a mailbox, jaws
no longer says the mailbox names when you're doing a search like it did in
earlier versions of outlook and previous versions of windows. Now, jaws
just says not selected. Another thing I'm noticing is that jaws is no
longer speaking the various tabs when you're in outlook options. Sure would
appreciate finding out whether others have experienced this and what
remedial action you've taken to resolve this issue. Brian Zolo

[JAWS-Users] Using Chat Windows with JAWS 18

2017-07-19 Thread Nancy B . Gibson

Nancy

Hi All,
Please remember that simply because we are running the same Windows version,
the same JAWS version and the same application does not mean that our
computers are in any way identical. Over time, all kinds of junk can get
installed that we are not aware of, lots of pieces of applications run in
the

of
that makes it a challenge for tech support staff to figure out solutions.
Lots
of us have commented on JAWS going silent, most of us have stated what we

more bit of evidence for the Freedom sleuths to use to correct the issue.

Morning all.

Can anyone tell me how to get a word document out of protected view? I am
using JAWS 17, Word 2013 and Windows 10 on a Dell Laptop. Many thanks in
advance.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Protected Mode

2017-07-19 Thread Mike Mote
You can turn this off for all of your documents in word by following the
following steps:
1. Open Microsoft Word. You can close the document that opens, if a blank
one does load at start-up.
2. Press Alt plus F, followed by the letter T to bring up the options menu.
Use your arrow key or press the letter T until you find the trust center
option, and then tab over to the button that says Trust Center Settings.
Press enter or the spacebar to open this menu.
3. Now use the arrow keys or press the letter P until you hear Protected
View.
Once this is highlighted, press the tab key, and uncheck the three boxes
that you hear announced.
4. Once you have unchecked these boxes, press the OK button, which should
save your settings.
5. Lastly, try to open the file that you want to view in Word. JAWS should
now read it for you. I hope this is helpful. Good luck!

Hi Rick, thank you, yes, that's all I was saying. With so many computer

Hi All,
Please remember that simply because we are running the same Windows version,
the same JAWS version and the same application does not mean that our computers
are in any way identical. Over time, all kinds of junk can get installed that
we are not aware of, lots of pieces of applications run in the background and
unless we look at those, we don't know they are running. All of that makes it a
challenge for tech support staff to figure out solutions. Lots of us have
commented on JAWS going silent, most of us have stated what we have had to do
to get the little guy talking again. Jim's statement was not meant to say that

Oftentimes, Jaws is so sluggish i.e.
not quite non-responsive -- that I end up loading System Access to go and
close IE11 and Jaws. Then, I can re-load Jaws and its happy.

If I use a competitive screen-reader, I've not encountered these issues.

Hi Glen,

Yes, that is correct, but I do backup everything to at least 4 other

Hello Mike.
Not the answer you wanted, but having the data partition on the same
drive as you operating system defeats the purpose, in that if your OS
drive crashes, you loose your data as well.
Given that your OS drive does most of the work, it's the one more likely
to crash.
IMO, better / much safer to have a second separate drive for data.

Re: [JAWS-Users] sign in with jaws.

2017-07-19 Thread Fernando Gregoire
Sometimes it happens me on Windows 10 Insider Preview builds. Usually I
resolve this by using Touch Cursor with Advanced Object Navigation Mode to
find the Logon screen window and, beneat it, the Password edit box. When I
find it, I press ENTER to route PC cursor as normal.

So if you're not having the issue, the rest of us are just losing our
minds, huh? Here's another vote for it being an I.E. problem.

I always used to have these sorts of issues with iE...any version, of
either JAWS or IE. I finally pretty much switched 100% to firefox and
now everything works like a charm.

Just to add to this, I have the same issue with Jaws 16 through 18 on
a Win

7 Ultimate system.

It invariably seems to correlate to the use of IE 11. It is not
duplicatable, but it does happen with enough consistency that there's
got to be a bug somewhere in the program.

When it happens, if I can get Jaws to stumble-and-bumble to the
process manager, I can close IE and reload Jaws. Oftentimes, Jaws is
so sluggish i.e. not quite non-responsive -- that I end up loading
System Access to go and close IE11 and Jaws. Then, I can re-load Jaws
and its happy.

If I use a competitive screen-reader, I've not encountered these issues.

Hi Miriam, The mysterious and annoying behavior you describe also
happens to me on occasion. Likewise, I have the latest JAWS 18 with
Windows 7 and a 64 bit system.
Short of rebooting the system, applying the hot key sequence I have
assigned to JAWS 18 will sometimes return speech but it's all
guesswork and when the hot key fails to return speech, I am forced to
restart the system. Lastly, it seems to happen when tabbing away from
an open web site but beyond this pattern, I remain puzzled by this
annoyance. Mitch

Re: [JAWS-Users] Enable content

2017-07-19 Thread Fernando Gregoire
Internet Explorer allows (and allowed more easyly in prior versions) to
edit web pages locally. That is possible in Firefox (and perhaps Chrome
too) with the Developer Tools, but they're not so intuitive. In IE this is
in the File menu, and in Firefox in Tools\Developer Tools.
If you want to edit a Word document downloaded from the Internet in Word
2010 or newer which by default open Word 97-2003 files in Protected View,
press F6 to go to the status bar and find the Enable Editing button there.

Hope it helps!

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws Accessible Partition Creating Programs

2017-07-19 Thread Dialup @ 56k
