I googled this topic and all I got were adds for MS office. I didn't
readily see any offering for a free download for sounds to use in MS Office

I looked for sounds at alt F; options T; and, although I found a similar
multi page assortment of options, I could not find anything about sounds.
Any ideas? thanks

Here is my problem; when I use the save as control and I change the folder

the file name with a say line command, but this is an extra step in the

[JAWS-Users] weird problem in MS Word 2013

2018-07-18 Thread Bob Hicks
In Word 2013, I have created a list of telephone numbers beginning in 2001.
It now numbers 112 pages. I was looking backwards through the list from the
end of the list. Suddenly, the word "navigation" appeared and I could no
longer move back in my list. Now I see that all the pages have been
reversed. Page 112 is now page 1. What could I have done? How can I
reverse this accident? tia

NVDA and Narrator, I just modified it to include usage with jaws. I tested it
and it works according to the tutorial. This is a second post of it because I
didn’t do it correctly the first time!

give this a whirl;

1, alt+f=file,

2, t=options,

3, down arrow to mail,

4, alt+n=compose messagess,/signatures,

now depending on how many signatures you have, you then press alt+t=edit
signature, note, after you,
alt+f, t=options,
m=mail, alt+n=signature, press enter, you should be placed into a signature
body, if you tab once you should see ok button.

oops, you may not see nothing if you deleted the signature.

Hi Holger,
I tried this on the Apple Vis , Sendspace and Hadley Institute for the Blind

sites.
When you find the link for the mp3 you want, do this:
1. Open the context menu, and press enter on, "save link as".
2. When the dialogue opens, tab to the file type combo box, and down arrow to

all files, then tab to the save button, and press the spacebar.
The file should download to your default location.
Note:
This seems to be a standard "Save As", dialogue box.

Okay I just gave the latest version another run, and the only way I was able

cursor calisthenics. Doing the first run using the clean button / checkbox

version is now doable, but it will just require more effort. I was able to
clean the Registry and view the results of this scan with no problem, so I'm
taking back my statement that it's not accessible, but I will say that it's
not nearly as accessible using the cleaning options as versions 5.40 and
earlier. Now, this is all based on a loose definition of accessible! LOL

Gerald,

I'll jump in here, as well. I'm using version 5.42.6495. Windows 7 32-bit
Professional SP 1.Using JAWS 2018 latest build, but works all the way back
to version 16, as well. As I tab through the program, I land on buttons. I
press a button with the spacebar, and continue to tab, as there are now
other buttons resulting. e.g. if I tab past the Tools button, I land on the
next button -- Options. But is I select Tools, Uninstall, Startup, Browser
Plug Ins, etc. With continual Tabbing, I come back around to the first
button "Check for Updates".

If I select the Uninstall button, and tab enough, I land on a list view,
showing all my installed programs. I can navigate this list using the
up/down arrows, as well as first-letter navigation to jump quickly to a
particular program.

There are times when I select from a list and select an action like remove,
where I lose focus. Then all I do is Alt-tab away and back in to CCleaner
and tab back to the list. IF that is not accessible, then I have several
other programs that are totally worse.

Hi Orlando,

I don't know what your definition of accessible is, but when I tried using
CCleaner versions 5.41 & 5.42 I couldn't find what had been cleaned during
the Windows cleaning, I couldn't shift + tab back to the Applications
cleaning, & getting to the Registry clening option I wasn't going to trust
since the other options wer acting quirky. This was with Windows 7 Pro,
running J16, thru J2018 latest. This also happened with the portable
versions of CCleaner 5.41 & 5.42.

Rest assured that CCleaner 5.42 is as accessible as all previous versions. I
generally take inaccessibility rumors with several generous grains of salt

Hello;

outlook,

Ok;

The keystroke ctrl+shift+y=Copy a Folder So, to add contact to the contacts
folder,

1, enter on the message which contains the email address,

2, use the keystroke, ctrl+shift+y=copy A Folder, You will hear jaws say
something like, Copy item to dialog,

3, press the letter c=contacts press enter, Within a few seconds you should
see the Contact property page with all the contact information, You can
check this by using the tab key.
If your satisfied, just press alt+s=save.
You will be placed back into the message.
This does work with 2016, 2013, I would assume it would work in 2010 also.
Again, the ctrl+shift+y is a office keystroke.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Recurring problem: JAWS not speaking at logon screen after Windows 10 updates

2017-12-05 Thread Bob
This is an issue following the recent Fall Creators Update to Windows 10.
It is being patched in Jaws 18 and 2018.

The issue only usually occurs when rebooting.
When you next have updates try going to the desktop, press Alt + F4 and
select shutdown.
The updates should still install while the machine shuts down. Turn the PC
back on and the updates will complete and hopefully you should still have
speech at the logon screen.

Hi Annette,

You're not losing your mind. The logon process is really problematic with
Windows 10 and JAWS. I've had issues with it right from my first Windows 10
and all releases of JAWS 18 and now 2018. I mentioned it to an FS techie
when I called about another problem and his response was, "yah, It's really

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Recurring problem: JAWS not speaking at logon screen
after Windows 10 updates

Hello Everyone,

I'm using Windows 10 with JAWS version 17.0.2729.

I'm seeking input regarding a recurring problem that I'm experiencing when
Windows 10 updates have taken place.

Whenever there has been a Windows 10 update, JAWS does not speak at the
logon screen. I cannot tell when the logon screen appears and when it is
ready to receive my Windows password. I cannot tell if anything is
happening if I do enter something and try to TAB to the OK button.

Needless to say, this makes logging on to my PC impossible at these times
without sighted assistance.

My husband who is sighted has helped me deal wit this. We have called the
Microsoft Accessible Help line. They said that somehow JAWS gets corrupted
when there are Windows 10 updates, and that we should uninstall and
reinstall JAWS making sure to set JAWS to speak at the logon screen.

Doing those things solves the problem until another Windows 10 update
occurs. There was a Windows 10 update recently. We will need to go through
the process of uninstalling and reinstalling JAWS for the thirdtime.

I'm wondering if others among you have experienced these difficulties. I'm
also wondering if there is a newer version of JAWS that does not have this
problem with Windows 10 updates. I've read of so many problems with JAWS
2018 that I'm hesitant to upgrade to it at this point.

I don't know how someone without sighted assistance would deal with the
frustrations that Ihave described. Repeatedly waiting around for sighted
help to fix a recurring problem such as this shouldn't be acceptable.

As a comment, I want to also say that I'm finding the discussion of screen
readers and web browsers interesting. I admit that having to become skilled
using different screen readers and web browsers, and to keep assessing which
screen reader/web browser combination works with various websites is very
discouraging. I use Internet Explorer. Even the NY Times is crashing more
now than it did previously. I usually get done what I need to but I admit
that I'm definitely less technically adept than many of you.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

Christine Murphy

Hi Andy,

I can't say this will work everytime, but if it works for you then, that's
all it takes. It has worked for me in the past.

This will only work on an already activated copy of JAWS.

Steps:

1. Press the JAWS key + the J key, for me it is Insert+J

2. Go to the help sub menu.

3. Go to the Update authorization option

4. You'll get a dialog with several buttons, click the Start Authorization
button.

5. In this dialog, choose manual activation, then click next.

6. In this next dialog there is a read only field with your locking code,
and two input fields, one has your entire authorization code, the other is
for your license code or serial number.

7. Copy the authorization code, then cancel out of the dialog.

Hello,

Yes, I know, "don't shout", but I have a JAWS-RELATED work emergency and
need immediate help from someone on this list if possible. The short version
is that a workstation critical for every aspect of my job keeps giving me
the choice of "demonstration mode for 40 minutes", or activating "full
version", which is already there and has been for years. To confirm and use
that version I need the authorization code. I don't have the CD which
contains it, and the supervisor who does is away. Is there a place within
the JAWS menu or Help to find that authorization code? I think I used to
know this. Thank you all for anything you can tell me.

The ElBraille is essentially a Windows 10 PC in a notetaker sized package.

You can use Internet Explorer or Firefox.

If you already use Jaws on a PC with a braille display then the
experience should be the same.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Experience installing JAWS 18

2016-11-06 Thread Bob
The start in system tray is exactly that. Jaws will start in the system
tray.
If you apply the setting after it has started you have to wait until the
next time Jaws is started for it to apply.

If you want you can restart Jaws using the error dump command JawsKey +
Windows + F4. This will cause the submit to FS screen to appear after it
starts again but it can be the easiest way to restart Jaws without risking
losing speech feedback.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Experience installing JAWS 18

I know many of you have already installed JAWS 18 and didn't see the need to
comment, but for anyone who has yet to do so, two things struck me as I went
through the process just now. First, unlike with all previous versions, I
wasn't told to reboot. Once I agreed to migrate my JAWS 17 settings to 18,
JAWS 18 came up the way I want it. I thought there must be some oversight,
but I opened a program or two, and everything worked as usual.

Then I discovered that JAWS 18 was included in my alt-tab windows rotation.
My setting has always been to have JAWS in the system tray. So now I did
reboot. When my PC came back up, JAWS 18 was in the system tray, where it
belongs.

So, a very smooth installation process. The only hiccough for me was my
expectation that I'd need to reboot. Sometimes you don't realize that good
news really is good news. The system tray issue is almost too minor to
mention.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 17 And WEB Based Applications

2016-08-18 Thread Bob
Moving to items on web based applications quickly depends only on how the
said items have been created.
There are so many possibilities on how a set of tabs can be created that its
difficult to guess.

If you can navigate to the tabs with the arrow keys then listen to how they
are described. If they are links then use the links list, if list items use
L or I to jump between them.
If you are looking for a control + tab type keystroke then this is unlikely
to work as it would clash with the IE use of the same keystroke.

You may benefit from some custom scripts for the app if there are specific
features you would like adding.

Hi friends,

I Have a web based application which is called Service anywhere and is
written by HPE.
I Would like to use this with JAWS, it seems to read o.k. but JAWS seems to
re-form the screen content and it will be a task of getting training and
used to the screen layout I think.
Does anyone have any tips on how to make web based applications more useable
please?
Is there a way to jump around tabs on the screen for example?
The programme sems to display information on the screen with tabs at the top
of the screen but JAWS is reformatting this in to what appears to be one big
long list, can I jump to the different tabs easily with JAWS?

Many thanks in anticipation,

They will usually reset with one key left.
Dont worry about asking for a reset as the need to reset them is just
the way their system works.
The only time it is an issue is if you have asked for it to be reset

Close, mirror drivers were introduced in Windows Vista replacing Display

They were also used in Windows 7 but have been replaced with another

Hi Jaws Users group,

I just finished helping Neil one of my members, by doing a tandem

The reason he could not follow my instructions was because the F S

his w-10 computer
The F S mirror Display drivers, do not work in w-10, they will cause
unusual problems as far as the way Jaws 17 sees information on your
computer.

He is not the only one who still had these drivers installed.
This is why Freedom Scientific needs you to run the tool they provide
before upgrading to w-10, This should work 99 percent of the time.

So, for the 1 percent of you who might be having problems, read below:
How to check your computer to see what display drivers are installed
on your w-10 computer.
Type, Device manager, into the search box, press enter on device
manager.

Or, Windows key+X, down arrow to device manager, press enter.
Tab one time to, Your PC opened.
Down arrow to, Display adapters closed, right arrow to open.
Here is what my computer says for the two items under display adapters:
ATI, Radeon HD 4250
Freedom Scientific accessibility display drivers
If any of you have, F S mirror display adapters in addition to,
Freedom Scientific accessibility display driver.
These drivers need to be removed from your w-10 computer, here is how
to do so:
Highlight the driver that you wish to uninstall, press the
application key.

Go down to, Disable, press enter.
A warning dialog will come up, asking if you are sure you want to
disable this device.

Tab to yes, press enter.
Now, highlight that same driver again.
Press the Application key.
Go down to, uninstall, press enter.
Again, you will get a warning window, Tab to yes, press enter.
You should get a dialog about restarting your computer, if so,
restart your computer.

After any drivers are uninstalled, please restart your computer.
Hopefully this will fix all issues.
Also, it’s a good idea to run a repair on Jaws, after doing something
like this.
This way, you get a freshly installed Jaws on your computer after
removing the unnecessary mirror driver.
This is why, F S has you run the tool before upgrading to w-10, so
you can avoid having to do this.
If problems still persist after removing the mirror driver from your
w-10 computer.
Then uninstall Jaws 16 or 17. then install, again fresh, this should
straighten out things for you.

Love God! with your heart, mind, and soul, that you might be blessed
reaching His goal.
Love your Neighbor as you would yourself, God will truly reward you
with good health.
Love God, your neighbor, as you love yourself, you will then be
spiritually balanced with wealth.
Love His Word that proceeds from His lips, then reflect on the

JAWS with

would be quicker using JAWS, than the touch screen on my Iphone.

I noticed a few glitches with JAWS and Icloud, initially when I opened

had to

click on a +-sign at the bottom of the screen which didn't appear to be
accessible using JAWS.

Are there any work-arounds or scripts for JAWS and the Icloud? If not

am wondering if I could safely try upgrading that 7 machine to Jaws 17 and

Hi guys, I recently joined the NVDA mailing list on tuesday july 28th, and I

you purchase it from the manufacturing company! there’s a tool, called app
remover! and it has a web style interface, on the other hand, it’s easy to
navagate with jaws.
Go to http://www.appremover.com/download then scroll down with your
arrow keys, and you’ll see something that says looking for the old app remover?
right below that, there’s a link that says download, space on that save it to
your downloads folder, that’s where your files automaticly get saved by
default, run the executable, and you’ll see something that says check I accept
the terms in the license agreement, space on that, and it’ll come up with a
list of security products sutch as avast, McAfee, and Eset, and ahole lot more!
and because the web style interface is a mouse over interface, when you see the
products listed as you navagate with your arrow keys, for example, McAfee,
downarrow once, and jaws’ll say check remove! space on that, jaws won’t read
the checkboxes, then downarrow to where it says remove clickable! and space on
that, then your cooking with gas! then when it’s done, reboot your machine, and
there you have it!
I hope I was helpful to you guys.

I’ve just seen this garbage myself! as a matter of fact, I called FS tech
support, and they were able to reproduce it, and they’ll have it fixed in the
next release! they questioned me if I changed my jaws settings or not, and I
said no! I did not! in fact, they questioned me twice about it, and I said no!
it’s like my gosh! I’s about ready to pull my hair out of my royal head!

[JAWS-Users] Jaws and WindowsLive mail!

2015-06-21 Thread Bob Edenhofer
Hi Michael B, I did the steps that you told me to do, as far as navagating
WindowsLive mail, and when I hit my alt key, I tried to bring up the context
menu with the applications key, and that didn’t work, and I also did shift F10
and that didn’t work either, so what I did was hit control F10, and jaws didn’t
say vertualizing ribbins! am I missing a step?

[JAWS-Users] Jaws and windows 10!

2015-06-20 Thread Bob Edenhofer
Well, I’ve read an article about windows 10, but as far as it being the last
release, I’ll contact FS about this matter, because I’ve been to freedom
scientific, when I went to visit Dad in florida back in 2011! this sounds like
a roomer from that article, so unles I hear it from microsoft themselves, I’m
not going to put my too sense in, because it’s only going to offend certain
people on this list, and if it is the case, I’m hoping that freedom scientific
will make jaws compatible for apple, because they’re going to be hurting for
business. In fact, I’m buddy buddies with the guys over at freedom scientific,
including Eric Damery, the product manager for software development, and also
some of the software developers as well and I’m also buddy buddies with Bryan
Carver, the director of technical support!

[JAWS-Users] Jaws and windows 10!

2015-06-20 Thread Bob Edenhofer
Rick my friend? I didn’t misunderstand you at all! all I’m saying is, I had
someone who’s one of my blind friends tell me at one time, that freedom
scientific is going to discontinue jaws in the future because of another
company that makes screenreading software when I was in florida visiting Dad a
few years ago! and again! that was a roomer! he told me faulse information, so
as far as that article, I don’t believe anything from it, unless I heare it
from microsoft themselves!

2015-06-09 Thread Bob Edenhofer

buddy buddies, with everyone at the company! I’ve been to the company back in

petersburg florida! and I listen to a training demonstration from freedom
scientific on antivirus software, and McAfee, was one of them! and they said it
was not accessible! so I believe them! so I won’t push McAfee on dacia, or any
of my blind friends on this list whatsoever! including my friend Bob Heiser
from greenbay wisconsin! I use Vipre, and that’s what I’m happy with! I don’t
recommend AVG, McAfee, or Avast to any of my blind friends on this list, and
I’ll deffinitly stick up for these indaviduals that don’t want McAfee! so how

people’s throat, my goal is to help people, and make friends on here! McAfee
doesn’t work for me, because when I bought my brand new machine last year, my
brother Jason helped me uninstall it, because it’s not accessible! and I don’t
care what some of the indaviduals say about it, because I had experience with
it myself, not only that, I’ve listen to a training on antivirus software
from the training department at freedom scientific, and they also said that
McAfee isn’t accessible either! so yes in deed! I recommend vipre!

Re: [JAWS-Users] confused webpages

2015-05-12 Thread Bob

Anti virus applications dont always catch all malware.
Get yourself a decent malware scanner as well.

Also go to control panel internet options advanced tab and press the
reset button and follow the wizard to reset internet explorer.

Thank you for your suggestion. I will go ahead and do an extra scan

Subject: [JAWS-Users] confused webpages

For the last few weeks I have been getting a bunch of crazy gibberish
when opening up certain webpages. It's always the same and I can't
tell you what it's saying, but it sounds like some alien language. I
tried to copy and paste it, but I cannot. It lasts for three or four
lines, usually at the top of the page, but sometimes it will show up
again in the middle of the page.

I am using IE 11 with JAWS 14 and 15. Does anyone have any ideas as
to what this could be and how to get rid of it?

Thank you.

Anne

[JAWS-Users] Vipre antivirus 2014!

2015-04-26 Thread Bob Edenhofer
All right, you guys are making this complicated then what it really is! let me
explain how to get to the quarantine folder in both versions of vipre
antivirus. In vipre 2014, you simply open the interface, hit alt V for view,
navagate with your arrow keys, to where it says manage malware, and the
quarantine folder is right their, with vipre 2015, open the interface, tab to
the radio button that says manage navagation, space on that button, then tab
twice, and you’ll see an idem called manage quarantine! Mike B, that’s all you
need to tell him, it’s that simple. Now I hope my explaination made sense! you
just had to make it so difficult for Kevin Lee. Do people think I’m stupid on
here? Or what!
