For 20K you can get a new MX204 (not to be confused with MX240). However, I
don't think the MX204 support CGNAT if needed, but I could be wrong. But I
wouldn't touch a MX80 or MX104 if buying new.

We are constantly having to mount these larger switches to two post racks.
To my knowledge Juniper does not make 2 post mounting brackets for these

That is what I was thinking. Throttle the customer upstream traffic at the
CPE so they can't upload anymore traffic into the network, and throttle
their downstream traffic at the provider edge (PE) or access switch so they
can't congest any more links than required.
For fq-codel on the CPE

know about DSL bonding, GPON, and other access technologies that provide
more speed, but that is not always economically viable.

Is it possible to have 3 RE's in a MX960? For example:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Juniper-MX960PREMIUM-DC-ECM-4x-PWR-MX960-DC-3x-SCB-MX960-3x-RE-S-2000-4096-/271739188162?hash=item3f44eaf3c2:g:Z~IAAOSwnDZT8lpv
shows 3s RE's installed?
The documentation I have seen shows that a MX960 can have 3 SCB's,
Then how do they have 3 RE's listed and house in the picture? Is the 3 RE
in the 3 SBC just in there, but would not be powered on or usable?

Just to confirm though, its the extra RE that is different and not
supported in this config right? The MX960 can use 3 SCB's at once, but only
2 REs? Or do I have the wrong too?

Thanks for the overwhelming wealth of information.
So sounds like the ideal, supported setup would be a MX960 with 3 SBC, 2
RE-S-2000-4096, and redundant power supplies. For a recommended option, we
would have a third RE-S-2000-4096 as a spare (well really we should have a
spare for everything), a
Well it would be RE-S-2000-4096 running the JTAC Recommended Junos Software
Version Junos 13.3R8 plus the standard (not enhanced SCBs).
I know more memory and 64 bit is usually better, but how does this help in
Junos? From past threads, we have concluded that Junos is currently single
thread/core

So assuming I got with something like this setup:

That has RE-2000's, Regular SCBs, and all DPC linecards. Would these all be
able to run at
Thanks for the replies, but I am not interested in the 16XGE card. The
configuration I am referencing would be this:

Should I run into any pr
What are the options for powering a MX960 using AC power? The datacenter
provider is offering us power in the following options:
120V/20AMP A/B Power
120V/30AMP A/B Power
208V/30AMP A/B Power
We are leaning towards using a MX960 with 4 AC power supplies and limited
cards installed. More than lik

So is the MX-104 processor really that underpowered? I have heard reports
that is was too underpowered for its pricepoint, and now I am starting to
believe it. Vincent what are your thoughts?

What are the difference between these two cards?
Based on the descriptions found online, the MPC-3D-16XGE-SFPP-R-B offers
full scale L3 features whereas the MPC-3D-16XGE-SFPP offers reduced scale
L3 features and requires license to support full scale L3 routes and L3VPN.
What is the difference be
Go with a MX104 not a MX80. New a MX104 is less expensive than a MX80.

So if I am reading that right, the box is using 96 percent of its memory?
It looks like it has 2 Million routes, so is that 4 full BGP
tables/upstream providers?
