The cxl driver was updated a lot (beyond the 4.4 level) but to my eyes
the result looks ok. In cases like this it may work better to try
applying the original upstream version of the patch (though in that
cases there are some changes would would still make the 2nd hunk fail).

As an informative note: it was observed that adapter "ASMedia Technology Inc.
ASM1142 USB 3.1 Host Controller [1b21:1242]" has a similar bug, but seems the

This started affecting me with the kernel update to 4.4.0-112-generic on
xenial. I booted the old kernel and the issue went away. Tried a few
times back and forth and the 4.4.0-112 kernel consistently has the sound
dropouts, while 4.4.0-108 does not.
Also tested with 3 different audio cards (by va
