Thanks for pointing that out. Let me know if you spot any other issues.

It might be useful if the group moderators could take a moment or two to
prune some of the more interesting links from the group link area.

Many of them seem to have very little to do with electronics.

RE: [kicad-users] Gerber file Scaling Problem.

2008-10-18 Thread Mark Webster
Hello all,

I have one problem with the PCBNew or Gerber file viewer. The scale of
my printed PCB layer (on A4 with Scale 1) does not match with the PCB
dimension drawed in PCBNew.

Hi,
Printer scaling is never exact. If you need to do it this way (rather than
plot to a file to sent to a manufacturer) then you will need to adjust the X
Y scaling, bottom right of the dialogue box, by trial and error.
Good luck.

RE: [kicad-users] Net not connected with Zone Fill

2008-08-29 Thread Mark Webster
Hi Marcus,

You did nothing wrong, the DRC in PCBNEW doesn't detect zone connections. I
usually run thin tracks between the ground pins and DRC before filling the
zones just to make sure.

Hello,

i have finished my first project with the latest SVN Kicad Version.
At last i have added a zone fill to connect the GND net.
I see that all GND Pads are connected but the DRC shows always
that the GND net is still not connected.
What's my mistake?

RE: [kicad-users] smd (qfp) package confusion

2008-08-24 Thread Mark Webster
Igor,

PCBNEW and most PCB packages always view the board from the component side.
If you place a component on the copper side then all the pins will appear
reversed because you are viewing it through the board. The pin numbers and
net connections will still be correct.

Yes, because it is surface mount you can only connect to the pin from the
layer it is on, you can put a via just before the pin to change later
though.

Subject: [kicad-users] smd (qfp) package confusion

Hi,

i'm trying to layout a board containing a tqfp32 ic and through hole
components. The datasheet of this ic shows the package from top. In
this diagram the pins are number counter-clockwise.

Now if I include the smd ic as tqfp32 package in pcbnew, the pin
numbering is right (counter-clockwise) -- only pcbnew thinks that it
should go to the component side. This means it won't let me make
connections to its pins via traces on the copper side.

But every way I tried (flipping the module from the context menu,
and choosing Copper as the working layer in Edit Module) _also_
mirrors the package. In the mirrored package however the pins are
numbered clockwise. If I would try to mount the ic on this layout, I
had to mount it upside down?

What is it that i'm missing here?

Regards,
Igor

RE: [kicad-users] Single side PCB with SMD bridges

2008-06-19 Thread Mark Webster
I'll begin a new design (3rd with Kicad) in some days, and I should ask
before drawing schematic: What could be the most efficient way to make a
single side PCB with 0R SMD bridges on tracks?
I read the Single layer PCB ... bridges on top layer thread, and it
seems, the SMD solution is not obvious. Using vias would be good also
here, if I could change its shape and disable its drill. Is it possible
 anyway?

The 0R links are standard SMD resistor components so just place them on the
board as you would an 0603 (or whatever size) resistor. There is a little
game of tag to go through with the schematic to get them in the right place
(if you want everything to match up) but it works fine.

Just set the drill size to zero should give a solid pad I think.

RE: [kicad-users] Rubberband tracks and Eeschema connections?

2007-04-25 Thread Mark Webster
I am brand-new to Kicad - just trying to learn to use it. Am I missing
something, or is there a way that when you move a part or block in pcb
or schematic, that the connections stay attached and just stretch from
their origins, or is the only choice to re-do all your connections
routed track after a move?

Hi Janet,

While it's not perfect, you can use drag block to do more or less what you
want in Eschema (I can't remember if you can do it in pcbnew).

1. Use the cursor to select what you want to move

2. Right click and select Other block commands

3. Select drag block

4. Move the block with the nets still attached

There is also a keyboard/mouse shortcut but I always seem to get it wrong so
I use the mouse.

Have fun!

RE: [kicad-users] Multiple boards, single schematic

2007-02-11 Thread Mark Webster
Hi Glenn,

I'm not sure if this is doable with kiCAD, as you would have to generate two
different netlists to import into the two boards. However: I would strongly
suggest that you do this as two projects anyway. You don't want to have to
up issue both boards because you needed to make a change to one.

Subject: [kicad-users] Multiple boards, single schematic

Hi All,

I'd like to create two PCBs for a project, but ideally have all
schematics on a single hierarchical schematic. Can I do this with
kicad or should I create a separate project schematic for each
board? Basically, I'll have a base board with all IO etc and a control
board with the main CPU, CPLDs, LEDs etc.

Regards,

Glenn.

Is there a key to swap between the active layer pair while routing? I
invariably start off on the wrong layer for surface mount components and I
find it distracting to move the cursor up to the layer menu.

Hi,

If I remember, the v key do that (v as via) this key switch between the
active layer pairs.

Thanks Danilo, but maybe I didn't explain too well. I'm only looking to
change the layer of the segment I'm routing not add a via. This is when I
have just started routing on the wrong layer rather than when I need to
change the layer during routing.

[kicad-users] 3D models

Is there any way to export the 3D model of the board? I want to be able to
use it to design the enclosure and check for interference. I can’t seem to
find the option anywhere. Can someone help?
