Dan That really should point toward the front in addition to venting it is also a way to put pressure into the tank to help move the fuel better. By pointing aft it is taking pressure out of the tank when you fly. Only takes one time for it to be an issue.

Scott, If you read the little blurb above the picture, it says it's a two seater, expected cruise is 115 knots. Empty weight it 570 pounds, full load is 1000 pounds. Power is 2100cc VW with a variable pitch 3 blade prop. You might try writing RR and see if you get any response.

With a foreword facing vent you have a ram air effect which pressurizes the tank slightly. With the tank being full the fuel gets to sloshing and when it contacts the vent port, it unloads. I had that happen on a Aircoupe while I was a passenger once. We were buzzing a barn at a friends place and
