KRnet> KR2 project for sale at the gathering.

2022-09-07 Thread Steve Bray via KRnet
I plan to take my project to the gathering to sell it.
It has a revmaster and is a tri gear.
As always 90% complete. Has the earlier wings and disc brakes.
Completely painted with some surprisingly expensive white with The Bonnie
Blue Flag on the belly. Comes with a new American Propeller Co. wood prop
and spinner.
Has 12 gallon tanks in each Diehl wing plus header tank. Also 0200 motor
mount and extra cowling, plans and paperwork.
Needs a carb and bigger fuel lines.

KR> Mogas blues.

2018-09-27 Thread Steve Bray via KRnet
Mogas blues.
I traded my Evans Volksplane for mu KR2 and warned the new owner about
using ethanal tainted fuel.
He didn't listen and starting the engine while standing beside it he had
opened the revflow and closed it
but the gunk kept the throttle WIDE OPEN. It almost killed he and his wife
who was standing in front of the elevator.
If not for an older Jeep Wagoneer it would have hit an above ground fuel
tank with him riding the wing.
I learned that when someone considers themselves to be a pilot that it
means different things to different people.
Sorry about your tanks Jeff.

As far as my KR I am not going to finish it and it is far to good to let
rot in my shop. Anyone that wants a nearly
complete KR2 nose dragger with a Revmaster or a 0200 please get in touch.

If you have never flown with a 2 cycle engine you must remember that they
are every bit as reliable as your weed eater.
I am not guessing at this , I have landed many times where I hadn't planed
to with these. It's not a if, its a when.

KR> KR 2 Parts

2016-01-23 Thread Steve Bray
I have a bunch of parts that are going to ruin if someone doesn't come get
them.
You'll have been talking about spars and I have two complete built wings,
with attachment fittings I don't need. They are the first version. Buy the
wings for $200 and I'll throw in two completed tails, one boat, canopy, two
header tanks and a bunch of hardware.
None of this stuff is new or in great shape but some of it is usable and a
lot cheaper than what you would buy.
This stuff is in Jackson Tennessee between Memphis and Nashville on I-40 .
Someone please come get this stuff.
Ask Paul Visk, I'm easy to deal with.

KR> Parts I don't need.

2015-09-11 Thread Steve Bray
I have some KR2 parts I need out of my way.
A set of wings, older airfoil, boat with the tail, turtle deck with a tail,
two header tanks and a canopy.
There is some hardware and probably other parts I've forgotten with this.
The parts are located in Jackson Tennessee and you have to come get them.
Make an offer, contact me off the KRnet, directly. Do Not respond on the
net.

KR> KR 2 Parts

2015-04-14 Thread Steve Bray
About a year ago I bought some parts , got what I needed and sold the rest
to a gentleman
in Tulsa Ok. He was unable to pick them up and will not be. He agreed to
let them go and so they are for sale again.
Here is what I know I have:
one boat with tail and some rigging.
one top rear cover with tail.
one set of wings, original style I think.
one canopy.
some hardware in a box.
One, maybe two header tanks.

I haven't looked this stuff over in a while and this is not new. The boat
has flown I was told.
This stuff is in Jackson Tn. on I 40. My cell is 731-444-0163
AGAIN this is used stuff that WILL need some work but the repairs will be a
lot faster and cheaper than from scratch.
I will take and send pictures to those interested.

After only 25 years the AF aero club had increased their prices by 33%.
I had to pay %12 per hr. wet fro a Navion, Mooney or T-34. Image, paying
that much for a retract high performance complex FUN aircraft. Being old
has its good parts. I flew up my entire G I bill having fun supposedly
working on my commercial that I didn't want any.
When I got out Memphis NAS was selling their T-34's for $10K each, a whole
row of them, you pick .
Back in the real world I could not afford to fly and didn't for another
twenty years. I messed up,or got lucky and got a ride and it all started
again I traded a truck for a VolksPlane.

I heard about this today and thought someone out there might be

accessories and880 hrs from a Champ for $1200. His name is Joe McMillen,

A VW conversion will cost more than that. An IA told me you can stamp EX on
the #plate and BINGO, you've got an experimental engine. I think I would check
that out further before I did that.

I bought a lot of stuff today to get something I needed.
One boat with center spar.
Two wings with good spar and what I think are pre-make skins.
Two tails and on after cover.
A set of flaps.
Two pre-made fuel tanks, header.
A canopy and frame.
All this stuff needs repair.
The wing skins will have to be removed and reattached.
There is a lot of hardware here. The tanks, canopy, spars and flaps can be used
for sure
and the boat looks pretty good.
If you have any use for this stuff please call or write.
I have around $300 and a day invested. I?ll sell, trade or make some kind of
deal.
I don?t want to scrap or burn this stuff if you can use it.

KR> Moontown, AL Crash

Local aviation legend and 17 year old flight student die in plane crash

Last Update: 12:13 am

Print Story | Share

MADISON CO. (WAAY) - George Myers loved to fly. It was his life. WAAY 31's
Kalie Lanford learned that first hand today when he took her up in his plane.
Just an hour later George was piloting another flight when it crashed.

?Its tragic I?ve known George for many years?him and his wife,? said Myers
friend Jerry Sanderson

George and his passenger Chris Schmitt, 17, were flying in a Russian Yak at the
Annual Moontown Fly-In. They were flying in a formation with three other Yaks
when suddenly their plane snapped out of formation and crashed. Those who knew
George respected him as an excellent pilot and local legend.

?His influence on aviation was impeccable. He was an impeccable pilot and he
was the previous owner of moon town airport and had it for years and this
airport is known nationally," said Myers friend, Bill Perry.

Myers?s passenger Chris Schmitt was an aspiring pilot. He was in flight
school in Madison to get his license. He told WAAY 31 he loved to fly because
of the freedom he felt when he was in the air. Both men said some of their
happeist moments were in a plane. Now, friends are taking some comfort knowing
they died doing something they love.

?He?s been such a great influence on so many people that enjoy flying, and hes
going to be very missed,? Perry said.

These are USED flight suites in a army surplus store in Trenton Tn. I don't
think they have a sight. If you will send me your size I'll drive up there and
see what I can get. They have a rack full and get in shipments so there is a
good chance. Three of you have replied so I thought I'd give it a few days.
I'll ship them to you for cost plus postage. They fold up tight and don't weigh
much so it won't cost much. My cell is 731-444-0163, If you want I can phone
you a pic before I buy. They are nothing fancy, just o d military flight
suites with velcro for patches but they are nomex so they are flame retardant
or resistant. I sent Mark L. one of my old ones a year or so ago just like
these if you want to check with him. They are NOT a bad idea for test flights.
This has brought more replies than I expected.I didn't even know the name of
the store but I looked it up. It's J & W Surplus 2009 US Hwy. 45 S. Byp.
Trenton, Tn. (no zip in the phone book) 731-855-3570I also ran across
this site that says it has new ones for $55.

Sorry..should have given you a little more info.

Bought a 95% project (yea) that has a side opening canopy with the hooks
installed and glassed in the canopy but no latch's. I bought the latch's
from RR and when installed the cam over hits the wood and makes it hard to
latch as in it takes both hands. This doesn't seem right.
I can't get the archives to work and find nothing in the plans about it and
RR sent none, I didn't know enough to ask.

As it is now I have to lift the latch upward to latch it. The hook is above

KR> Project - AWC

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Bray
Not to disagree..but...

Here in Jackson the local repair shop owner who took over the business from
his father as in he's been it all his life told me
He recently became a DAR although he's never done one as yet. In just
getting the DAR I would have to ASSUME he is up on the latest rules.

He is aware of my KR, how I got it and looked it over when I got it. I asked
him about 51% and the paperwork and he told me the rules are not as they
were and all I needed to do was write a letter saying I built this airplane
for recreational flying or something to that effect. I'm fairly sure he
told me the paper trail requirements were nothing as tight as they once
were.
Another DAR that I visit that builds Long Easy's and has lots of experience
as a DAR and knows about my partially completed KR told me to send my paper
work and pictures, not a computer disk,
ahead of the inspection. Didn't show any interest in who was in the pictures
as long as I was in some of them.

I got the impression from both of them that if I could answer all the
questions about the airplane
it wouldn't be a problem. I took this to mean that if I knew the airplane
from one end to the other
they were happy. That is a real good idea if I'm gonna fly it anyway.

These are not the people you deal with on a repairman ticket so that may be
another deal all together. There are a couple of friends here flying two
place Challengers now without N numbers and they tell me the FAA is pushing,
read cutting some slack, to get these heavy/illegal ultra-lights
numbered before 1/30/08. I know this isn't KR stuff but some people have
more than on airplane.

These are the possible mis-conceptions under which I labor, I hope they are
not mis-conceptions.

A while back we were talking about this on the VP list I think and someone

can dig it out if anyone's is interested.

Might be worth looking into.

KR> Belt Drive PSRU

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Bray
Phil
Some of my friends fly Challengers, most are Rotax 503's, all are belt
drive.
They have been flying them for years, 10 or more. I don't know any history
or how often they are changed but I've never heard of a belt failure. They
turn 6000+ rpm and seem to hold up well.

These are great little airplanes and very easy to fly. When I fly one I
worry more about the 2-cycle giving up than the belt. They stall around 30
so an engine out isn't nearly as big of a deal as in a KR.

KR> Help / wiring diagram

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Bray
I would suggest that you look over what you have before ripping it all out. I
believe you said you bought a project and it is already wired. Unless you want
to start over you probably want to understand what is done and use what is done
rightrather than starting over. Someone may have put a lot of work in there and
unless it's really screwed up a lot of it may be useable. If it is all screwed
up you may want to look closer at the rest of the work he did. I've found out
the hard way that it's always better to look before you leap.Steve BrayJackson,

KR> Fuel Tanks

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Bray
Randy I traded a VP-1 to a man in Texas, he without knowing put a blended fuel
in and it melted his tank (glass) which went to the RevFlowand stuck the slide
wide open while he was propping the plane. It put he and his wife in the
hospital and killed the VP. This is not a tale, I have pictures. He didn't do
anything wrong that he was aware of but that didn't change the outcome and it
could have been a lot worse. Alcohal will eat rubber parts and could do the
same thing, be careful. Steve BrayJackson, Tennessee> Date: Wed, 6 Dec 2006

KR> Tail Wheels

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Bray
Rich
I do work for Jarvis Caster. They have hundreds of small tough wheels.
If someone will send me the exact specs. for the tail wheel needed I may
be able to find a replacement that will do the job.
These little wheels are made to carry a lot of weight on hard surface and
normally
have roller bearings, probably not high speed though.
They would be real cheap.

KR> KR2 Conventional to Tricycle gear conversion

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Bray
Mark
I've been trying to research the nose gear converson / CG / engine spacer
deal and haven't gotten any solid facts. Jeanett or Dan Diehl, both of whom
I've asked don't have any solid answers but Bill Page from Mississippi flew
his new KR-2 to the gathering with a passenger, is looking where to get
spacers. I talked to him and he said that as fuel is used out of the header
tank the CG changes noticable.
It appears that a KR-2 with a VW needs the 2 inch spacers between the Diehl
engine mount and the engine with the nose gear. Most if not all the VW KR's
at the Gathering had them but I couldn't get a " you need them " answer ,
all I got was " this is what worked " .
Don't know why everyone is so vague about this but on Dan and Jeanett's part
I think liability may have something to do with it.
I'm working on a skirt for my cowling.

KR> Conventional to Tricycle gear/ Engine placement

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Bray
Dan , Riley and Serge

I got a somewhat completed KR-2 and it came with the gear, nose and mains,
mounted. It also came with 2" stainless steel spacers. I have access to
alum. and a lathe so making more isn't a problem.
The problem is that the fuse is mostly complete but the wings are built but
need but not filled, sanded or painted so the weight won't give me a true
w/b. Without the wings each wheel is within 2 lbs. of 165 with the spacers
in place.
With the spacers in the Revmaster {old type} starter hits the motor mount.
My 4 into 1 KR exhaust
that was suppose to be for a nose gear hits the nose mount, even more so
without the spacers.
I can make a 1 3/4" spacer to clear the starter and getting a set of 2 into
1 pipes that should clear.
I guess I'm going to have to change directions and finish the wings to get a
good W/B and do it right .
I've also considered making a longer motor/nose gear mount .
So far nothing turns out to be as easy as it appears with airplane building
and takes at least three times as long as it should.
Thank you all for your help and info/experience.

KR> KR PLans on CD

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Bray
I called Janet today around 4pm CDT and she answered on the third ring. She
remembered me, she remembered the man who started my project. She was able
to answer my question that I asked the net last week on spacers that none of
you guys could or did answer. She told me how to find out the things she
couldn't answer. I was talking to Mrs. KR...!
We had a pleasent conversation about her trip to the Gathering and the
Gathering. She talked to me like a friend and I have only met and talked to
her one time and that was over a year ago when she gave my wife and I a ride
to the airport.
Anyone that trys to take anything from this lady shouldn't try it within my
reach.

KR> Engine spacers

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Bray
Hello
I'm at the point of working on my cowling and have to make a decision on my
engine placement.
I have not as yet weighed my airplane and know that will be the next thing
but I can't find anywhere in my plans anything about the spacers I have that
go between the engine and mount.
I have a partially completed plane that came with the spacers and a nose
gear but I noticed at the gathering that some of your firewalls are forward
a couple of inches of mine. Some of you use spacers and some don't, some
of you put spacers between the firewall and engine mount. What's the deal
here ? Are there some changes in newer plans to move the firewall forward ?
When I push down on the tail it takes a lot of pressure to lift the nose and
if I move the engine forward it will be even more so.
We are talking about a KR-2 with a VW Revmaster nose gear.
Thanks,

50/50 chance you might be intrested in a trade for a new RevMaster but I
doubt it. I do have a new exhaust, four into one, for a Great Planes engine
and nose geasr KR that I'm not going to use.
If anyone needs it call or email me before noon Thurs. and I'll bring it to

The Holliday Inn guy told us the van was for check in and check out only,
one trip each way.
When we got there we called them and waited 45 min. and got a ride with Bill
Page, we met the van on the way out. They may have been mad at me for that.
We call to rent a car and found if you rent it for one day it's $80 but if
you call ahead it's $75 for the week end. Prices stated are from memory
which is failing but they are close.

You are both right. No one wants a junkyard next door, thats why there are
laws like that but the reasonable man deal would work if we were dealing
with reasonable people.
My suggestion. Get the ACLU on our side. They are big on going to bat for
minorities and scare the crap out minor polititians and annoy everyone.
We are definitly a minority ! We have civil rights and that is what they are
suppost to do !
Maybe we could turn their own guns on them, worked well for Gen. N. B.

It will not set up for me. It has stayed sticky for a week now. Called the

its crap and I got ripped off. It must work for someone. I mixed it like it
said ...four times. Could have been a bad batch but it won't happen to me

KR> Motormount/exhaust

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Bray
I need some help.
I have a KR-2, RevMaster 2100D, Diehl motor mount and nosewheel mount. It
has Rev acc. case with starter and big blue Bendix dual mag.
I also have a Greatplanes 4 into one exhaust that will not work unless I
have spacers to move the engine foward. I can modify the mount or the pipes
and make it work with this setup but what I need to know is if anyone out
there has this setup and did you use the spacers for cg?
I know the w/b is what I need and am working on it but am not far enough
along for it to be accurate. I've got to change something. If I'm going to
need to move the engine foward then the cowling will have to change, if I
leave it at the mounts then I have to change the mount or the exhaust.
Anyone need this 4 into one setup ?
Hopefully someone has experience with this same setup and can save me a lot
of time.
Thanks

KR> nose gear/ $ 57K

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Bray
Hay Mark , thats not out of reason.
When my lawnmowers were stolen and I went looking for replacements I found
that is exactly what a new Jacobson 5111 cost and it won't get off the
ground.
Man was my insurance company impressed. I got one but it wasn't a new one.
If a lawnmower is worth 57K surely your famous KR is !!

KR> hole punches

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Bray
Bob
Electricians use a set of dies that work real well. Probably expensive for
the bigger ones but you may know soneone that has a set. You drill a hole
then they fit on both sides, you tighten the bolt and pull the blade side
through. A real neat hole.

I would have to be an electrical supply house. We have 3 or 4 here in

pawn shops, probably stolen.
Don't you work with electricians?

I"ve used them on my mowers and there are good sides and bad sides.
Good side...You can run them till the rubber is completely worn from the

Bad side ...They weigh a ton !! You will not believe how heavy they are.
They are solid, no give whatsoever.

Yanmar did the reverse. They took a diesel and lowered the compression
,added a carb and have a bullet proof gas engine in a John Deer mower.
Don is right, gas engines are not built to take the load the diesel puts
out.

Does anyone have a sling seat they aren't going to use or upgraded from or

Thanks Paul for reminding me, It is Friday.
I've got a real well built header tank that I don't think I'm going to use.
It's got an inset for an Escort 110. It may one RR or someone produced and
sold, I don't know.
If someone wants it I'll need something to replace it + something else in
trade. I don't want to just cut it out, it's to well made to just throw
away.

KR> Glassing the fuse

I'm at the point to either glass or paint the wood. Larry sez to do it for
strength and slick which makes sense
to me. I've got some Kelvar that I don't know what to do with but not enough
to do the job. Shoud I buy enough
to complete the job or use glass? I haven't come up with a way to cut the
stuff as yet.
I've looked in the archives and only found one related message that didn't
say much.
My plans are old and don't say anything that I can find. Is this standard
procedure ?
