I had a thought in the night - Aland and Barry whoever are advertising their
lace CD on their web site as Lace Guild CD. Does the Lace Guild know
they are marketing it as this? Did they give permission for them to use the
organisation's name in marketing? Are they paying a royalty to the Lace
It's to stop the threads from pulling down at all when you tension them -
I've not seen it used like this before, but I notice the other samples have
long loops at the beginning.
I saw one in use last weekend at a Bedfordshire class, where you introduce
several pairs of bobbins hung rainbow
There was mention of the CD at the Lace Guild summer school - I know someone
had copies there, but I didn't actually look at it. I'm pretty sure you
will find that the Lace Guild is well aware of the CD and did assist in
providing source material for it.
Although I accept all that has been said
I wasn't questioning whether or not the Lce Guild was aware of the CD, but
whether or not they are aware that Alan and Barry are marketing it as Lace
Guild CD, which, to me, implies it is a Lace Guild product. As a member of
the Lace Guild, I wouldn't want to be associated with it.

Out of curiosity I had a look at the TV channel and low and behold there
they were demonstrating the disc! Each time I looked during the day it was
on! Their prints seemed to be OK but I didn't see any close ups to get any
idea of clarity and to be honest they weren't the most 'lacey' of bits!
I have had a conversation with a (hopefully) future student who is shortly
off to Catalonia for three months. She will be about 45 minutes drive from
Gerona. Can any Arachnean suggest a lace contact for her.
She has made lace in the past but not for some little while. She is hoping

Hello all,
I have uploaded a picture on the page:
http://www.geocities.com/carolgallego/tool.html
This is a two/three uses tool: hook on one side and push/pull pins on
the other.
Anybody can give me some clue where to find it, any lace supplier... I
cannot get it here in Spain.
The one I am
Sorry I don't know where you got that one - looks useful, but I couldn't get
your [picture to load from the link you gave and found this one worked for
me (and may do for others)

I have one of these tools, mine is a piece of Yew as has been turned in the
shape of a lace bobbin but in large scale and then the bobbins has bee split
lengthways down it's middle and has a piece of sticky back baize stuck to
it's back to make it non slip. It has a hole drilled in the middle
To me it looks like an ordinary crochet hook slipped into a carved
wooden handle. Taking into consideration that it's larger than
life-size on my monitor, I estimate it to be an American Size 13 or
14 crochet hook.

That's probably because in the photo the tool is lit from the left, not from
the right. It looks as though it could be a push/pull tool on the right. If
that's what Carol says she's looking for, then that's probably what's there. It
looks to me like a two-headed tool, not just a crochet hook
I have a similar double tool. I think it was made by
Kenn Van Dieren. Probably, anyone who puts tools into
wooden handles could do a special request to put two
into one handle, or you could order one from him.

Hi All
Just thought I'd let you know that I've just updated the Poole Bobbin Lace
Circle's website and that I've now included photos of the wonderful Bishop's
Cope made by one of our male lacemakers, Malcolm Down. It's well worth a look.

Usually I get lost in long explanations as I am a visual type. But Jenny's
explanation is perfectly clear. For Rosaline I learnt another trick using a
support pin. See a Dutch but illustrated explanation on

I have exactly the same tool: a crochet hook on one side of the
handle, and a push/pull device on the opposite side. I bought it from
a checq lace teacher in a course. So, it comes from Checquia.

I came across this type of wooden bar when I started learning Flanders lace at
my first convention years ago. Our teacher had thoughtfully provided us all
with one which was nicely painted with flowers. We started our lace by tieing
bunches of bobbin threads together, holding down all of them

Further to the mysteries of how the thought processes of government
officials work was a story reported in the UK papers this week.
Someone who only had their recycling collected fortnightly, but had
also been the recipient of an edict forbidding food waste in the
ordinary bin, asked her
Actually, the freezer wasn't such a stupid idea. My father used to
keep an empty coffee can in the refrigerator with a plastic bag in it
and the lid on it, for things like fruit peels, bones, and fat
trimmed off meat that otherwise would have smelled in the trash. He'd
