Malvary does have a point (pun intended, if you like). The end of the
thingy does look like the yad (hand) that is used to point at the
words in the Torah! I know nothing about the chocolate thingys, so
can't compare. But, the length of the yad is usually not longer than
about 8 and the 2 end
Hi Arachnids!
I haven't been following this thread closely, but all the discussion on this
finally prompted me to take a look at the thingy. It looks to me like it could
be a drop spindle for hand spinning. The reason I suggest is that I have
spindle that has a notch thingy like that at the
If you wanted to, you could use it for a spindle but its really too short
for that, and the yarn would catch in the carving. Check out the website
mentioned with pics of the official mullers that match the item and the song
that goes with the mulling.http://gourmetsleuth.com/molinillo.htm

No it definately is not a drop spindle, a drop spindle has a whorl either near
the top or near the bottom, and does not have loose rings on it which would
unbalance the spindle while it was spinning.
Diane, I also have the clip sort of tool with the metal tip, but there is also
a prodder type tool
Hi Rosemary

Best wishes

Hi - thanks to all who've answered my question. Wow - it really does look like
that. The one thing that still gives me pause is the first picture looks to me
like it has a hook on it, near the top? Maybe for hanging it up? Or do my eyes
deceive me? :)

It looks too much like the Mexican chocolate stirrers, to me, to be a
spindle. The loose rings would get in the way of spinning but are
usual on the stirrers. Also, a spindle gets its spinning-capacity from
the wide disk that puts as much weight as possible away from the shaft,
while the
Hello Spiders -
She may shudder that I have taken her public, but our good friend, Alice
Howell, has just broken her left wrist and will be hobbled for at least the
next six weeks. We probably won't hear as much from her during that time, but
since she can't make lace for a while, I suspect
I don't like to send this to the list, but I seem to have hit a blank when
it comes to the card exchange.
I sent an email to Alice (off list) when the exchange was first being
organised, and then twice since, and have had no response, or pairing up or
anything. I was very conscientious and have
Hello all,
Well now how has everyone been? I have gotten 2 bobbins from ebay with the
name Danny on them, I will keep one and the other will either raffle or give
away, I guess it depends on how many people contact me.
