I took a fan class from Louise Colgan. She had us make flour paste by mixing a
bit of fine pure wheat flour with water (I'd have to look up the amounts but it
was very small), heat it in a microwave before using. The purpose of using
flour paste is that it's water soluble. If I ever want to r

I've seen that youtube video that you mentionned, and did notice that it was a
cookie shape not a bolster that the woman was using. I do have several
different shapes and sizes of cookie pillows. Perhaps I should experiment
with different ones to see if one would work better. Maybe my Honit
Hi All, I was in Pier 1 Imports with MIL today and found some plates with
a pierced lacy edge! They are 7-1/2" across and quite pretty. I got one
to have treats on. They're $6.00 each.

Hi All,
I have not done needle lace but have seen (saved it for my Croatian born
friend) a U tube clip developed to encourage tourists. Ladies making Pag lace
were working on cookie pillows on an angle as already described and they used
both hands to tension the thread when necessary. Their hands

Nancy Evans has a wonderful tilted pillow that she uses to do her
needlelace on. She can adjust the angle of tilt, and the pillow can
spin, like a lazy susan, as well, so you can get to all sides as needed.
I have done a piece in my hand because I needed it to be portable. It

Thank you for your comments. I work in my hand, but have tried using a
pillow. Soon after I started to learn I was having terrible problems with
tension, and some of our experts suggested that a pillow might help. So I had
a tubular piece of polyethylene and used that for a while. It
Hello All! Yowza Lorelei--that is some sun!! I'm reaching for my shades &
sunscreen. Seriously, I saved the pic & forwarded it to a friend in EGA.
Don't know whether this is something you would teach others, but it would make

I use Tacky glue, available in various guises, but all have "tacky" in the
name. White while liquid, dries clear, and dissolves in water even after
drying if you want to remove the leaf from the sticks.
Of course, the preferred method is to have holes in the fan sticks and

Hi All.
Thank you for all your fan adhesive tips. Much appreciated. Sorry I couldn't

I have just mounted my black Bucks Point fan, and was told by a friend who
used to be a lace tutor to make 2 strips of halfstitch lace the same size as
the guard where the lace is to be attached, you then glue that to the guards
( I used ordinary craft adhesive) and then just stitch the lace to th
I have made some fans and use the same glue I use for wood. It is white
and comes out transparent, dries very fast, so I dilute it with water
and work one stick after the other.
Hope, its understandable what I mean,

I'm sure this has probably been asked before but I have searched the archives
and been unable to find anything. I am hoping someone out there will be able to
advise.
I have a student who is about to mount a lace fan. We have read through

Wow Lorelei that's quite a large piece! Well done! Quite a variety of
fillings/techniques there and beautifully worked as it's not as easy to
maintain an even tension in such large areas. Do you work on a pillow or hold
the work in your hand?
