beautifully painted bobbins by Mary Niven who is also a lacemaker. I first saw
her bobbins at the IOLI convention in San Diego in 1983, I think. Mary painted

After looking at that pretty object, I went through a book for
scissors collectors: 'La folie des Ciseaux' by Frederique Crestin-
Billet and the closest I found p. 58 is in silver and has two fancy
lions around the handles. It says the blades are of steel. I cannot
say what they were used

lovely and I have hung them in the Christmas tree with the Christmas
bobbin of the Lace Guild. I find they decorate well and I asked
myself if a lacemaker ever decorated the whole Christmas tree with

As a bobbin tree, I use a small repliqua of those quilt hangers (where
